Vampires are pretty boys attracting girls so they can then rip out their neck... If it's a girl vampire, then it's the same thing only the other way around...
The thing is, vampires can blend into society very subtly. Just kidnap a person or two here and there and drink a bit of blood. Or rob a blood drive. Not too mention they are just plain awesome
Werewolves are awesome in their own right, but their name is hard to spell, and they aren't nearly as secretive and cool. If you were a werewolf, it would be tough to keep it a secret, so the werewolves would be driven to extinction.
Really though, I like plot bunnies. They're very cute, and hop around inside everyone's head! You can't turn away a cute plot bunny!

Vampires (not the twilight ones) have more weaknesses, but are cool, awesome, have powers and PWN absolutely everything else- whilst keeping fans. Top that, werewolves!
