In this forum, you put some lyrics of a song you like and below it, you analyse some of the words and comment on why you like that part of the song. At the very bottom, if possible, could you include the singer/band/group and the name of the album and year it was from.

I'll start with Billie's cover of The Tide is High.

I'm not the kind of girl/
Who gives up just like thaaat

I think this section of the song (after the rap) is the best because it sounds sort of acoustic and she stretches the word 'that' unlike in the other pre-choruses.

Personally, I think it is the best version of The Tide is High. Other than that, Atomic Kitten.

The title of your song reminded me of another song, so I'll look at High on the Tide by Fyfe Dangerfield :D

Stumbling barefoot over the sands
With no one and nothing at my command,
But with the waves on the shore and the sea in my hair
I can honestly say this: I really and truly don't care.

The song as a whole is, to me, about realising that you can't control everything, but that that isn't a bad thing. In these lines in particular it seems like he's seeing all the possibilities in life and going 'oh well, I'll float along and see what happens'. It's sung really beautifully too; you get a sense that he's just letting go of all his worries. :)

Some other favourite lines of mine from the song are:
Oh, who needs friends when all they have's opinions
and For once in my life, I'm glad to be here and not there.

Fyfe Dangerfield - Fly Yellow Moon - 2010
Reader, what are you doing?

A bridge from the song 'Lonely Lullaby' by Owl City; All Things Bright and Beautiful

"I sang my princess fast asleep,
'Cause she was my dream come true,
Oh Annmarie, believe me, I loved you.

But now those lonely lullabies,
Just dampen my tired eyes,
Because I can't forget you.
Because I can't forget you."

I really love these verses because I really felt the love here. There are some lyrics that says 'love' this and 'love' that, but there's no emotion in it. In here, Adam Young poured in his grief over his bad relationship with Annemarie (whoever she is...), and he still yearned fro her. Poetic, emotional, alive. Those are one of the few qualities unique to Owl City's songs.

United States of Whatever by Liam Lynch

And then it's three A.M.
And I'm on the corner, wearing my leather
This dude comes up and he's, like, "hey, punk!"
I'm, like, "yeah, whatever!"

Then I'm throwing dice in the alley
Officer Leroy comes up and he's, like,
"Hey, I thought I told you..."
And I'm, like, "yeah, whatever!"

And then up comes Zafo
I'm, like, "yo, Zafo. What's up?"
He's, like, "nothin'"
And I'm, like, "that's cool."

This is clearly a tale about an insecure man who pushes away everybody other than those he considers as his friends.
