Go to My YWS (which is at the very top of the page). After that, there should be a friends tab. Click that. There, you should be able to add a friend.

Also, now with the profile updates, if you go to a person's profile there is a "Follow [username]" link under their avatar that you can click, and it adds them to your "Following" list.
"Let's eat, Grandma!" as opposed to "Let's eat Grandma!": punctuation saves lives.
