Hi. I'm new to the young writers society, and I don't know what you're supposed to do here. I figured out how to submit works, but I don't get the rest. Can someone explain how it all works?

Thanks,
Croissant

Hey croissant! (Now that's a sentence I don't get to type much.)

Welcome to YWS! Basically, at our heart, at our core, if you peeled and divided us like an orange and that orange had a stone like a peach, that stone would be that we are a writing site. So if you've figured out how to post works, you're already doing well. XD

The site has a strict reviewing policy, which means that for every work you post, you should be reviewing about three other works. Reviews need to be helpful--not just one line saying, "Hey good work, I liked this, keep writing". They need to be constructive above all else, so don't worry about being too harsh. Everyone here is pretty serious about writing, and the only way you can get better at writing is by getting honest opinions on your work, and learning to take the honest opinions, even if they seem harsh, is an invaluable skill. The Critique Sandwich is a good method to use if you don't like line-by-lines. Also here is a guide on how not to write reviews, but don't get too hung up on doing it perfectly! Just be honest and helpful. ^_^

Oh, and good grammar and spelling is vital. No chatspeak.

The other forums are for a mix of things. If you've already posted a work, you'll see that we have different forums for different genres, but there's lots of community forums as well. There're places for socialising, and places with writing games and tips; and clubs, which is where you can get together with other members to share common interests. There's a Supernatural club, an Artemis Fowl club, a Sherlock Holmes club, and lots more.

There's also The Buddy System, which is a club where new members can be mentored by older members, so if you have any questions, it'll be worthwhile heading over there and checking it out.

So again, welcome to YWS! Do PM me if you have any questions about anything. :D

Thanks. :) How did you do that blue link thing?
