I can't decide on a middle name for my main character. It is between these three choices. Maybe you can help me decide.

The second one, definitely. The first one looks too much like Gregory with "avich" just tacked to the end, and the last one isn't as much fun to say. But the middle one is nice.

There's this freaky Russian spelling of 'Aleksander' that leaves out the 'e' at the end- 'Aleksandr'. I'd do that, and then -avich, because then most English readers will read it as five syllables instead of six. Less syllables = awesome.

Is it necessary to the story for your character to have a middle name?

You do mean Patrynoms ^_~

When I was working on my Russian story I figured out Patrynoms based on what I wanted their father to be called...sometimes it worked, more often than not, it didn't. XD Especially since that story had some pretty messed up family lines.

Anything but Arkadyevich only because I cannot see someone named Arkady.

Gregor works though. ^_^ Heck, think of Kafka? We worked with bugs in class my freshmen year of Bio and when they all turned into beetle looking things, I named them all Gregor. XD

I think the second one, because it tastes better on my tongue (not too heavy, more the weight of a marble), plus it's easier to pronounce. I spent about eight minutes working on the last one, and I still couldn't get it (because I am bad with languages).

Because this is Nanowrimo, and the more names you can call a character, the more your word count goes up!

For example, you could have Snoink do all the action, but if you have "the amazing heroine" you get more words! :D

Because it's not just a middle name, it's a patronym... which, in nineteenth century Russia, was a rather important part of one's name. ^_~

Three cheers for Arkadyevich.

hmmm. I still can't decide. I'm leaning towards either Arkadyevich or Aleksandravich.
