If you think this is a hard question, it helps to think of your book as a movie. Now ask yourself, what song would be in the opening credits? the closing credits? the climax? Post the title of the song, the lyrics, and the artist, please! Hopefully this will be fun.

Here's an example. These are some songs that inspired my story "Firebrand".

Artist: Disciple
Song: The Wait is Over
Lyrics:

I can feel it in the thunder rolling, lightning crashing
It’s our time, the wait is over
Fire’s burning, floods are rising
It’s our time, the wait is over

Sitting in ashes, we’re broken,
With our faces downward,
Like there’s nothing we are looking forward to

We’ve been waiting so long
For this moment all of our lives
Let it pour out

I can feel it in the thunder rolling, lightning crashing
It’s our time, the wait is over
Fire’s burning, floods are rising
It’s our time, the wait is over

Hoping and praying in silence,
That the blessings of the former
Isn’t the end of what we look forward to

We’ve been waiting so long
For this moment all of our lives
Let it pour out

Artist: Skillet
Song: Energy
Lyrics:

Oh

Power is another word that I use to describe You
Your mighty winds come in and blow me away
Frightening, coming at me like lightning
It's You that I fear, yeah, yeah
I shake whenever You speak my name

And I'm surrounded
You overpower me

You're a silent rage, you're a hurricane
You are everything I cannot see and can't explain
You're an enigma wrapped in a mystery
Everywhere I go, I can't escape Your energy

Oh

Divine is a reality that You define
You defy time
I see You in everything in fire and wind and rain
Captured is just the word to capture how I feel when I still
you are what I crave
You set me free I want to be Your slave

And I'm surrounded
You overpower me

You're a silent rage, you're a hurricane
You are everything I cannot see and can't explain
You're an enigma wrapped in a mystery
Everywhere I go, I can't escape Your energy

I can't escape You energy [8x]

Oh

Power is another word I use to describe You
Your might winds come and blow me away

You're a silent rage, you're a hurricane
You are everything I cannot see and can't explain
You're an enigma wrapped in a mystery
Everywhere I go, I can't escape Your energy

I can't escape it
I can't escape, no, no, no, no, etc...
Everywhere I go, I can't escape Your energy

Oh
“We’re still here,” he says, his voice cold, his hands shaking. “We know how to be invisible, how to play dead. But at the end of the day, we are still here.” ~Dax

I've done this sort of thing! :D But most of the music I find is already on another movie's soundtrack. Track 13 of the Spirit soundtrack is a good one for Rainbow.

Okay! I guess for Kale Hart, this would work.

Artist: Two-Mix
Song: Just Communication

Just wild beat
Communication
Standing in the lashing rain.

I want to express my passionate
Undying feelings
With my whole body tonight!

Well, my story, House of Wolves, was mainly just inspired from the title of this song, but looking back on the lyrics, I have to say that it's very in keeping with the whole story.

Artist: My Chemical Romance

Song: House of Wolves

Lyrics:

Well, I know a thing about contrition,
Because I got enough to spare.
And I'll be granting your permission,
'Cause you haven't got a prayer.
Well I said hey, hey hallelujah,
I'm gonna come on sing the praise.
And let the spirit come on through ya,
We got innocence for days!

Well, I think I'm gonna burn in hell,
Everybody burn the house right down.

And say, ha
What I wanna say
Tell me I'm an angel,
Take this to my grave.
Tell me I'm a bad man,
Kick me like a stray.
Tell me I'm an angel,
Take this to my grave.

(S-I-N, I S-I-N
S-I-N, I S-I-N
S-I-N, I S-I-N
S-I-N, I S-I-N)

You play ring around the ambulance,
Well like you never gave a care.
So get the choir boys around you,
It's a compliment, I swear.
And I said, ashes to ashes, we all fall down,
I wanna hear you sing the praise,
I said, ashes to ashes, we all fall down,
We got innocence for days!

Well, I think I'm gonna burn in hell,
Everybody burn the house right down.

And say, ha
What I wanna say
Tell me I'm an angel,
Take this to my grave.
Tell me I'm a bad man,
Kick me like a stray.
Tell me I'm an angel,
Take this to my grave.

You better run like the devil,
'Cause they're never gonna leave you alone!
You better hide up in the alley,
'Cause they're never gonna find you a home!
And as the blood runs down the walls,
You see me creepin' up these halls.
I've been a bad motherf***er
Tell your sister I'm another
Go! Go! Go!

And I said, say,
What I wanna say
Tell me I'm an angel,
Take this to my grave.
Tell me I'm a bad man,
Kick me like a stray.
Tell me I'm an angel,
Take this to my grave.

Tell me I'm a bad, bad, bad, bad man.
Tell me I'm a bad, bad, bad, bad man.
Tell me I'm a bad, bad, bad, bad man.
Tell me I'm a bad, bad, bad, bad man.
So get up!
So get out!
S-I-N, I S-I-N!

Actually, I could really see this being the song over the end credits if HOW was ever made into a film XD
There's always been a lot of tension between Lois and me, and it's not so much that I want to kill her, it's just, I want her to not be alive anymore.

ha! i found one of my character's songs! she has more, of course, but here's one. :D

Title: Going Under
Artist: Evanescence
Lyrics:

Now I will tell you what I've done for you -
50 thousand tears I've cried.
Screaming, deceiving and bleeding for you -
And you still won't hear me.
(going under)
Don't want your hand this time - I'll save myself.
Maybe I'll wake up for once (wake up for once)
Not tormented daily defeated by you
Just when I thought I'd reached the bottom

I'm dying again

I'm going under (going under)
Drowning in you (drowning in you)
I'm falling forever (falling forever)
I've got to break through
I'm going under

Blurring and stirring - the truth and the lies.
(So I don't know what's real) So I don't know what's real and what's not (and what's not)
Always confusing the thoughts in my head
So I can't trust myself anymore

I'm dying again

I'm going under (going under)
Drowning in you (drowning in you)
I'm falling forever (falling forever)
I've got to break through

I'm...

So go on and scream
Scream at me I'm so far away (so far away)
I won't be broken again (again)
I've got to breathe - I can't keep going under

I'm dying again

I'm going under (going under)
Drowning in you (drowning in you)
I'm falling forever (falling forever)
I've got to break through

I'm going under (going under)
I'm going under (drowning in you)
I'm going under

The above. Seriously, I think you read my mind (or at least thought of what I would think, but earlier...)

And I suppose all of Evanescence's songs. I love them.

Here's the theme songs for my novel-in-progress, which doesn't have a name yet:

"Fly From The Inside" by Shinedown

Here's the weight of the world on my shoulders
Here's the weight of the world on my shoulders
On my shoulders
All alone I pierce the chain
And on and on the sting remains
And dieing eyes consume me now
The voice inside screams out loud

I am focused on what I am after
The key to the next open chapter
Cause I found a way to steal the sun from the sky
Long live that day that I decided to fly from the inside

Every day a new deception
Pick your scene and take direction
And on and on I search to connect
But I don't wear a mask and I have no regrets

I am focused on what I am after
The key to the next open chapter

I can't escape the pain
I can't control the rage
Sometimes I think that I'm gonna go insane
I'm not against what's right
I'm not for what's wrong
I'm just making my way and I'm gone

Here's the weight of the world on my shoulders

"Iris" by Goo Goo Dolls

And I'd give up forever to touch you
'Cause I know that you feel me somehow
You're the closest to heaven that I'll ever be
And I don't want to go home right now

And all I can taste is this moment
And all I can breathe is your life
'Cause sooner or later it's over
I just don't want to miss you tonight

And I don't want the world to see me
'Cause I don't think that they'd understand
When everything's made to be broken
I just want you to know who I am

And you can't fight the tears that ain't coming
Or the moment of truth in your lies
When everything feels like the movies

Yeah you bleed just to know you're alive

And I don't want the world to see me
'Cause I don't think that they'd understand
When everything's made to be broken
I just want you to know who I am

And I don't want the world to see me
'Cause I don't think that they'd understand
When everything's made to be broken
I just want you to know who I am

And I don't want the world to see me
'Cause I don't think that they'd understand
When everything's made to be broken
I just want you to know who I am

I just want you to know who I am
I just want you to know who I am
I just want you to know who I am

I haven't actually started yet, still outlining it. I'll send you a link when I post it, though.

Also, a friend of mine told me this song fit with my story too:

"Ordinary" by Train

Whose eyes am I behind
I don’t recognize anything that I see
Whose skin is this design
I don’t want this to be the way that you see me

I don’t understand anything anymore
In this world that I’m tired of
Is taking me right up these walls
That I climb up
To get to your story
It’s anything but ordinary

And when the world is on its knees with me its fine
And when I come to the rescue I get nothing but left behind
Everybody seems to be getting what they need where's mine
‘Cause your what I need so very but im anything but ordinary

Can you save me from this world of mine
Before I get myself arrested with this expectation
You are the one look what you’ve done
What have you done?
This is not some kind of joke
You’re just a kid
You weren’t ready for what you did

And when the world is on its knees with me its fine
And when I come to the rescue I do it for you time after time
Everybody seems to be getting what they need where's mine
‘Cause you what I need so very but im anything but ordinary

I think im trying to save the world from you
You’ve been saving me too
We could just stay in and save each other

Im anything but ordinary
(ordinary)
Im anything but ordinary
(ordinary)

Perfect, perfect song...

Another Pleasant Valley Sunday
by the Monkees

The local rock group down the street
Is trying hard to learn their song
Serenade the weekend squire, who just came out to mow his lawn

Another pleasant valley Sunday
Charcoal burning everywhere
Rows of houses that are all the same
And no one seems to care

See Mrs. Gray she's proud today because her roses are in bloom
Mr. Green hes so serene, he's got a t.v. in every room

Another pleasant valley Sunday
Here in status symbol land
Mothers complain about how hard life is
And the kids just don't understand

Creature comfort goals
They only numb my soul and make it hard for me to see
My thoughts all seem to stray, to places far away
I need a change of scenery

Ta ta ta...

Another pleasant valley Sunday
Charcoal burning everywhere
Another pleasant valley Sunday
Here in status symbol land

Another pleasant valley Sunday...

yay! i have found Jake's song now. :D
poor Jake. He's had a lousy life. His dad is a butthead. Some days I'm tempted to kill him off.

Artist: Linkin Park
Title: Numb
Lyrics:

I'm tired of being what you want me to be
Feeling so faithless lost under the surface
Don't know what you're expecting of me
Put under the pressure of walking in your shoes
(Caught in the undertow just caught in the undertow)
Every step that I take is another mistake to you
(Caught in the undertow just caught in the undertow)

[Chorus]
I've become so numb I can't feel you there
Become so tired so much more aware
I'm becoming this all I want to do
Is be more like me and be less like you

Can't you see that you're smothering me
Holding too tightly afraid to lose control
Cause everything that you thought I would be
Has fallen apart right in front of you
(Caught in the undertow just caught in the undertow)
Every step that I take is another mistake to you
(Caught in the undertow just caught in the undertow)
And every second I waste is more than I can take

[Chorus]
I've become so numb I can't feel you there
Become so tired so much more aware
I'm becoming this all I want to do
Is be more like me and be less like you

And I know
I may end up failing too
But I know
You were just like me with someone disappointed in you

[Chorus]
I've become so numb I can't feel you there
Become so tired so much more aware
I'm becoming this all I want to do
Is be more like me and be less like you

[Chorus]
I've become so numb I can't feel you there
I'm tired of being what you want me to be
I've become so numb I can't feel you there
I'm tired of being what you want me to be

I can't do one for my current novel-in-progress but here's what I think fit the character, complete with lyrics that I think are perfect. The girls are MCs and the boys are secondary (i.e. very important. :P) Some of them have ? next to them, because I'm still trying to find the song. :)

*

Girls

Amber:

My Happy Ending by Avril Lavigne

You were everything, everything that I wanted
We were meant to be, supposed to be, but we lost it
And all of our memories, so close to me, just fade away
All the time you were pretending
So much for my happy ending
So much for my happy ending

It's nice to know that you were there
Thanks for acting like you cared
And making me feel like I was the only one
It's nice to know we had it all
Thanks for watching as I'd fall
And letting me know we were done

Scarlett: ?

Maddie:

Nicest Thing by Kate Nash

All I know is that you're so nice
You're the nicest thing I've seen
I wish that we could give it a go
See if we could be something

I wish I was your favourite girl
I wish you thought I was the reason you were in the world
I wish my smile was your favourite kind of smile
I wish the way that I dressed was your favourite kind of style

I wish you couldn't figure me out
But you'd always wanna know what I was about
I wish you'd hold my hand when I was upset
I wish you'd never forget the look on my face when we first met

I wish you had a favourite beauty spot that you loved secretly
Cos it was on a hidden bit that nobody else could see
Basically, I wish that you loved me
I wish that you needed me

Beth: ?

Paige ?

Boys

Ed:

Teenage Kicks by The Undertones

Are teenage dreams so hard to beat
Every time she walks down the street
Another girl in the neighbourhood
Wish she was mine, she looks so good

I wanna hold her, wanna hold her tight
Get teenage kicks right through the night

Tom:

Lips Of An Angel by Hinder

Well, my girl's in the next room
Sometimes I wish she was you
I guess we never really moved on
It's really good to hear your voice saying my name
It sounds so sweet
Coming from the lips of an angel
Hearing those words it makes me weak
And I never wanna say goodbye
But girl you make it hard to be faithful
With the lips of an angel

Jimmy:

Running Away by Elliot Minor

My stomach is sore
Don't joke anymore
You treat me like a friend
I'm starting to feel
You're staying for real
But you're leaving now I'm

Drowning out
I feel I'm passing out
The music's louder now
So you can see

Stop running away
Stop running away
Can you see
Can you see
That I've fallen too deep
Fallen too deep
Please, come back where you belong

Stop running away
Stop running away
Can you see
Can you see
That I've fallen too deep
Fallen too deep
Please, come back where you belong

*

Of course, this will change by the end. :)
When the drums come in
And the keys get louder
Now we're building a collision of noise

~ The Broken Minor by Elliot Minor

For my book Keep it Cool, Kyuss' "Supa Scoopa And Mighty Scoop" is the theme song:

Don't try to take me away,
Like I can't live without you,
Today, makin' love tomorrow,
So way, swooping you're so fragile,
Die today, you disgrace the mortal.

Fight me lately,
Tried to someone,
We've been laughing,
Since you've been gone,
ANd I want to know,
Did you all enjoy the show?
It's so sad to see you go

And you know

Hanging low today,
I replace the highway,
Love the only way,
Linking hands the wrong way,
So I bare to see you go,
It's so sad to see you go,
I just thought I'd let you know

And you know
I'm advertising here: Rosetta...A Determinism of Morality...out May 25th...2010 album of the year, without question.

I had quite a tough time finding songs for my story, Dark Powder.

It's kind of funny because the song Dead, by My Chemical Romance, works well, since all of my characters are dead (my story takes place in an afterlife). Here are the lyrics:

Yeah!

And if your heart stops beating
I'll be here wondering did you get what you deserve?
The ending of your life
And if you get to heaven
I'll be here waiting, babe
Did you get what you deserve?
The end, and if your life won't wait
Then your heart can't take this

Have you heard the news that you're dead?
No one ever had much nice to say
I think they never liked you anyway
Oh take me from the hospital bed
Wouldn't it be grand? It ain't exactly what you planned.
And wouldn't it be great If we were dead?
Ohh dead.

Tongue-tied and oh so squeamish
You never fell in love
Did you get what you deserve?
The ending of your life
And if you get to heaven
I'll be here waiting, babe
Did you get what you deserve?
The end, and if your life won't wait
Then your heart can't take this

Have you heard the news that you're dead?
No one ever had much nice to say
I think they never liked you anyway
Oh take me from the hospital bed
Wouldn't it be grand to take a pistol by the hand?
And wouldn't it be great if we were dead?

And in my honest observation
During this operation
Found a complication in your heart
So long, 'Cause now you've got (now you've got)
Maybe just two weeks to live
Is that the most the both of you can give?

One, two, one two three four!

LA LA LA LA LA!
LA LA LA LA LA LA!
LA LA LA LA LA LA LA!
Well come on,
LA LA LA LA LA!
LA LA LA LA LA LA!
LA LA LA LA LA LA LA!
Oh motherfucker,

If life ain't just a joke (LA LA LA LA LA!)
Then why are we laughing? (LA LA LA LA LA LA!)
If life ain't just a joke (LA LA LA LA LA LA LA!)
Then why are we laughing?
If life ain't just a joke (LA LA LA LA LA!)
Then why are we laughing? (LA LA LA LA LA LA!)
If life ain't just a joke (LA LA LA LA LA LA LA!)
Then why am I dead?

I haven't found much else that works too well, so that's about it.
DEAD!
"I don't know half of you half as well as I should like, and I like less than half of you half as well as you deserve."

-Bilbo Baggins, The Fellowship of the Ring, J. R. R. Tolkien

When I was young, I admired clever people. Now that I am old, I admire kind people.
— Abraham Heschel
