The Plot

Spoiler! :
The kingdom of Alabastris is at war with its mortal enemy, the kingdom of Ra. Alabastris are a monarchy. Five Nobles, worshiped as gods, vow servitude to their King, His Majesty, Seer of the Light, Ille Regnans Super Cenerem - He Who Rules Above Ash. Ra are an oligarchy who worship a single god, Ra, and therefore see the Alabastri as heretics and pagans, whom their god has commanded to burn. Both kingdoms are vying for control over the nearby lake Silva and the fertile land around it. Now, the Alabastri King has assembled a Five Man Band comprised of one Emissary from each of the five Noble Houses, to seek out the primeval and incredibly powerful Mortiferus Flail, which will grant the Alabastri enough power to finally destroy the Ra.

The Acts

Spoiler! :
Act 1, Scene 1

A Team is Assembled: Ianus Augusto Iudici assembles his team, travelling to the other cities where the Nobles reside. They are given a day, and then they return to the South Gate of Alabastris to begin their quest

The Quest Begins: The team sets out, journeying west, towards the King???s Wasteland, believing the legend of the Flail's position to be accurate.

Canyon Bandits: The team must, along their journey, also contend and eradicate a cove of fierce wasteland bandits, ruthlessly preying on whoever crosses their path. This deviates them slightly from their original path.

The King's Altar: Making double time, the team reach the Kins Altar, the supposed location of the Mortiferus Flail, only to find Ra soldiers have already beaten them to it. They decide to investigate. They scour the temple for the Flail, hoping to beat the Ra to the punch.

A Sudden Change of Plans: at the heart of the King's Altar, they discover there is no flail. They are then jumped by the soldiers, who reveal they too do not have the Flail. Battle ensues, and our team must flee north before they are overwhelmed by an additional Ra patrol.

The Setting

Spoiler! :
Alabastris, the capital of the Kingdom of Alabastris, is built on (and around) the tallest of several hills. It is surrounded by mighty stone walls, too high for catapults, and too thick to be demolished by enemies. The four watch towers at each corner command an imposing view on the surrounding grasslands. There are four gates, made of mighty oak, and set with great and ancient iron. The city itself is built in a way so that, standing atop the castle keep, it is possible to survey every part of it. The castle itself is also protected by a trench, and another set of smaller, yet equally sturdy walls. Alabastris is positioned to the east of the kingdom, and is therefore more dry than the other parts: they rely on rainwater mainly, but the climate favors vineyards and olive trees. The Alabastrian wine is not comparable to the reds of the swarthy Folschi, but is viewed as particularly exotic for its unique color, and thus heavily exported to far away lands. They also possess favorable environment for animals - the Alabastri are never short of meat, but, especially the gens of the city, must import fish and ocean products in general. Among their imports are also wood and precious metals. Alabastris is the political capital of the Kingdom. It is home to the main building complex of the Iudicis, the lawmakers and lawkeepers of the Kingdom. It is also home to the royal court and the Ceneris Domus, the grand temple where the King holds religious cerimonies every other week. To the west of Alabastris are the wastelands and marshlands. Further East is lake Silva. A good deal to the north and south are forests. To the south they slope down mountains. There are five other major cities, and many smaller towns and villages. Less to the west, far more to the north. Villagers have been coming to Alabastris from the east, seeking shelter from the frequent raids conducted by the Ra.

The Houses:

Spoiler! :
The Iudici: oldest and most esteemed house, the Iudici are commanded by Iudex, the neither male nor female elite Alabastri lawmaker. The Iudici are supremely devoted to their King. They tend to employ necrotic magic to sap the strength and resolve from their enemy, or else cloud their thinking. Members of the Iudici house tend to be very calculating and somewhat ruthless. The Leader of this group will be from this House.

The Oblionis: they are headed by Oblio, and preside over Alabastris??? military (albeit kept in check by the Iudici). They are empathy-based mages, and use their powers in battle to channel raw energy to destroy their enemy. The Oblionis tend to be very rash hedonists with a tendency for violence. The Lancer of the group will be from this House.

The Malvarosae: they are headed by Malvarosa, and are healers. They possess both practical knowledge of herbs and how to use them to treat wounds, and magical knowledge - the Malvarosae are sangromancers. They use death to quickly heal wounds and replenish energy. The Malvarosae are known for being sharp-witted and ambitious. Their Emissary will be the Chick of the group.

The Typhois: led by the mighty giant Typhon, the Typhois maintain infrastructure within the Kingdom of Alabastris. They tend not to use magic. The Typhois are quiet and patient, but implacable when roused to anger. Their Emissary will be the Big Guy of the group.

The Vesperi: Vespasian oversees his guild and the archives, art and literature of Alabastris. They are perceived arrogant and snobbish, but harbor a great love for art. Each Vesperi is an artist of some sort. They are also talented magicians, most adept in the Dark Arts. Their Emissary will be the Smart Guy of the group.
