Invitation only.
xxxOVERVIEW
- You sigh, looking out the window. It was a clear night sky without a single cloud in sight. The moon hung bright and full in the dark, illuminating the dark room around you. You close your eyes and think back to a very specific, rather childish memory many years ago: a clear night sky, the sounds of your friends giggling down the green hills, the push and shove and shushes from them—it was the first act that brought together a once deep and loving friendship between you and five other friends.
It's been a long time since you even thought about it, but sitting by the sill in loneliness, you couldn't help but wonder: What happened to them after they all moved out of Brookdale? Where are they now? Are they happy? Are they settling down with someone? Do they still remember you? Or did they forget?
Suddenly something catches your attention: a laced white postcard with your name daintily written on the top. It was buried underneath the bills and magazines that you have never read, and slowly, you take it out to read.
You are invited to attend the wedding of Christopher Allens and Mary Carlson in Green Hill, Brookdale. If you plan on attending, please RSVP...
Suddenly memories started to flood in your mind. Christopher Allens was the mayor of Brookdale, the tiny town you grew up in with your childhood friends. You wonder: Did he invite the other five? Are they going to go? Has the town changed? Did they change?
You think of your secret—your big, hushed secret that you want to bury inside yourself and never let anyone in your past know about.
You stared at the laced invitation for a long time.
Finally, you pick up the phone and dial the number on the invitation. It rings once, twice, three times—then finally someone picks up.
"Hi, Mayor," you say casually in your adult voice. "It's been a long time, hasn't it? Congratulations on your wedding. I am going to attend."
Unbeknownst to you, your old friends have secrets themselves.
And one of them is a murderer.
