Keira

“Hah, that’s funny… Ice. Hmpft.” Keira laughed a nervous little laughter and tried to make sense in what Kosey had just said but failed instantly. Control of ice – Kosey? And Keira was supposed to be aware of this… and up worse, she was supposed to share this gift with him? No this was madness.

“I can assure you it is not a joke, can you honestly tell me you have never felt stronger in the winter, have you never witnessed ice appear at the most unexpected places?” There was something about the way Kosey spoke that made Keira unable not to listen, something she couldn’t remember the old Kosey had been able to do. So Keira took it all in and put thought into his words, yes – it might be true, she had always felt more alive and strong during the winters and in difference to her peers she’d never been especially bothered with cold at all. And then off course, it was that one time when she’d… no, she hadn’t done it – but somehow – the lake had frozen.

Keira had been playing with Hector down by the lake, she’d recently turned 8 years old and Hector was teaching her how to fish – something their father had taught him but didn’t see fit for a future queen. It had been a beautiful day and Keira remember feeling so happy that Hector had promised to spend time with her the entire afternoon. Only then Kosey had come and told Hector he needed help with the horses… only Keira had known it was a lie, the little orphan had a better hand with horses than anyone Keira had met, not then not now. It wasn’t that Kosey was a bad person, the thing was – he was good a person, he looked up to Hector and Hector was like him, kind-hearted and talented. Keira had envied him because Hector always took him under his wing, taught him all sorts of things and treated him like his own brother. Keira sometimes felt like Hector forgot he had a sister and she’d gotten upset because he ran away from the one special moment he had promised for her. For he had, he was too kinds not to help a brother in need and he left her sitting by the water – giving her a warning to stay away from the water until he came back. It was just because he said so though, that Keira had chosen to do the exact opposite and had ended up falling in. Keira still remembered the feeling of hitting the cold water, feeling her entire body stiffen, being unable to move as she sank further and further down towards the bottom. She remembered how she’d breathed water and how it had burned in her lungs and how she finally had been able to fight her way up to the surface but how she’d drifted away from land and she had no powers to swim to land and so she kept being dragged under. What happened later, she’d always imagined being her memories being fogged with imagination but as she recalled it she’d wished so badly for feeling something solid beneath her feet and then her wish had come true. The lake froze, a few feet below the surface and up to very surface around her so that only a small pond of water formed where Keira lay panting. All she had to then was to climb out of that whole, up on the ice and crawl towards land where she finally passed out. When she woke up she was bedded down in her bed with several blankets in a room that had been heated up – nobody spoke of any frozen lakes and Keira had thought of it only to be a fogged memory and convinced herself it wasn’t true. In her every forthcoming nightmare she didn’t dream of saving herself but she was always just sinking towards the bottom, feeling her lungs fill with water. Ever since that day Keira had been dead afraid of water and she didn’t often try to remember that day so it had actually never occurred to her that what she’d imagined happened that day actually happened – maybe she did freeze the entire lake. Maybe Kosey was right. Maybe she had an affinity for ice.

“You really think I can control ice? How is that even possible? Neither of my parents owe the gift do they? So how?”

Is also great

Climalsi | Kosey's Room

Climalsi was just as confused as Princess Keira about that matter. He knew ice too well because he was born in winter. Elves normally have an element that are respective of the season of their birth, but humans? If Princess Keira has a gift that not even her parents, older brother, and adoptive brother knew of, then I might be dealing with a rare kind of human. If that be the case, where in her family tree could an elf be? The ice in Princess Keira's hand was more warm than cold. Climalsi had to take a guess in this matter. He countered, "Perhaps the power was there, but merely dormant to either your mother or father's side of the family tree?" He knew himself as an elf on his mother's side and took control of earth from her. "Elements are very rare among humans, with the exception of having an elf in the family tree. I look like an elf because my mother was an elf herself. If there's an elf in your family tree, then there's the origin of your element." He waited for Princess Keira's answer. He knew what he was saying, but he was hoping she would tell him.

(sorry if this is really rough- I was in a hurry and dog tired from work. I will try to edit any typos or errors in the morning.)

Hector/courtyard then throne room:

I had hurriedly thrown on a coat and half running made it to the courtyard where a crowd was starting to gather around the fountain.

"What is it lord Caverick?" I asked the portly courtier, his bald head was almost shining in the morning light. he wiped sweat from his brow and wrung his hands .

"Don't look my lord!" he cried- a moment too late. I walked around to where the center of attention seemed to be and went pale. Two bloodied corpses lay side by side. By the uniforms both wore I could tell they were guards.

"What happened here?!" I cried looking around for answers, no one seemed to have them.

"They were found by one of the gardeners, they seemed to have killed each other..." Lord Caverick trailed off, Sir Joffery- a knight of my fathers personal guard- stood near and snorted loudly. I raised an eyebrow at him.

"Sir if you have any insight to this I would "appreciate" it." I was icy, now was not the time for snorting!

"My Prince, " he started, "It would be foolish to rule out that this is another one of the assassins killings- six people within the royal palace have been struck down, all sudden and all in mysterious circumstances. these men are two different guards. One is a door guard and the other a guard from the inner wards- they would have no interactions at all!"

"My Prince," Caverick tittered beside me, I ground my teeth. the man was impossible sometimes.

"Yes?" he wrung his hands dramatically.

"Another terrible thing has happened my lord!"

"Yes?" I said again narrowing my eyes- I was in no mood for his games. he got the hint and swallowed hard.

"Besides the deaths of these to guards, the life of Lady Isranda, chief of the temple maidens has been attempted!" I blinked at him for a second, disbelieving. "She is alive my lord- the assassin was apprehended, but there is a possibility that...." he trailed off again.

"He is the one responsible for the other killings too?" Sir Joffery asked bluntly- he was never one to say things delicately.
I swore inwardly- I was being pulled in twelve different directions at once!

"Where is this assassin?" I asked, deciding to tackle the still living problem, Caverick swallowed again.

"The assassin is being brought to the throne room my prince." I turned to Joffery.

"Sir Joffery, I know you are looking into the other deaths, would you be so kind as too add these poor men to your investigations?" I turned to another of the knights present "Please inform their families of this and give them my condolences as well as assurance that they will be cared for."

With that I turned on my heel and quickly mounted the steps to the great hall. I kept myself ramrod straight and my face emotionless- though I felt on the verge of a breakdown.

-Dear god! and the morning started out so well!

As I neared the great doors my mind started to race, all the things that I needed to attend too jumbled together into a swirling mass.

I need to see if this assassin IS truly the one who killed father, but be fair and not jump to conclusions, I need tell mother Keira's alive- I need to find where Keira is now and ask her what happened to her- Then check up on Tarasel and ask Lady Haleighlia to see to-

"Damnation." I muttered pushing open the heavy oaken doors to the throne room, not waiting for the guards to open them. I strode in with the military step father had taught me and the placid mask mother had taught me and looked for the assassin...

My god...

Two guards snapped to attention. Between them, kneeling on the floor in a broken heap, was a woman- she had been beaten savagely and looked half dead. When I had entered she looked up sharply and something akin to fear flashed across her face.

"H-Highness!" she stuttered and fell silent. I openly stared not trying to look away- my clenched fists shaking slightly. she looked like they had beaten her to within an inch of her life and then some. Blood stained her clothes, and startlingly pale skin. Her almost white hair was in tumbles and dirty, the beginnings of a black eye was forming.
I slowly walked over to the woman and guards and slowly let my icy stare move from her to the two men.

"What happened?" I asked, barely audible. Both men went suddenly on edge and swallowed.

"Well- er you see my prince this is the assassin and-"

"I understand that, but what happened? were you attacked? should you two even still be here? Obviously if your charge is this injured something dreadful must have happened- are you two wounded as well?" I saw a nervous glance pass between the two, then the one who had spoken swallowed what seemed to be something the size of a mill stone.

"Highness this is the assassin and-" I narrowed my eyes at him,

"I understand that but what I am asking you is this- Were you attacked so suddenly that you were unable to protect your prisoner? Or did Lady Isranda do this to her before she was handed over to you? there has to be a reason she looks like a pack of wolves or savages had some sport with her." another nervous glance, my temper was rising.

Even if this young woman was the assassin who murdered my father- which by the look of her tear track stained face I doubted- even if she was, she deserved to be condemned by trial not molested by rough men.

"Well." I said, icy glare growing even more frigid. One guard looks to the floor, the other stared at me defiantly.

"She's a murderer Highness, she doesn't deserve to be treated like a lady!" I rubbed my temples- the probable headache of earlier was now far along it's path.

"But she is a lady- a woman. Even if she is a murderer, she is a woman, and your men. Don't you have more pride in yourselves then that would let you beat on women who were placed in your charge? She very well may be a cold hearted killer on her way to hell, but we're not- we are not cold hearted savage killers. I will not have any prisoners- no matter their crime molested, in any way by the guards. Do I make myself clear gentlemen?"

They both snapped to attention and nodded, my face relaxed slightly.

"Good I'm glad we understand one another. Now what did you do to her?" they paled again.

"Just roughed her up a bit- that all sir. we didn't..." the one soldier trailed off, but the intent of his words was clear. I waved a hand at them.

"You both may go."

"b-but sire!" I kept my flaring temper in check.

"What? do you think in her present condition she will be able to kill me? Go- you've done enough damage for one day!" they hurried out of the room like the devil was after them.

-maybe i do have a little of my fathers fierceness...

I turned back to the woman slumped at my feet, she was trembling now. I knelt down next to her, albeit at a slight distance. She was wounded but dangerous nevertheless.

"I apologize for the guards, they shouldn't have done that. I can assure you- you will not be treated so again." she slowly raised her head and looked into my face, her own a wash with ten different emotions. She said nothing so I continued.
"As you already know I am Prince Hector and you are now in the Palace of the capitol. you have been charged with the attempted murder of Lady Isranda and the possible murders of; The king, and several other high ranking officials. You will remain here, in the east tower, until your fate is decided." I kept my voice even, calm and altogether emotionless.

-could this woman actually be the killer of my father? is she actually capable of coldly taking another's life?

My mind raced with these and a thousand other questions as I waited to see if she would respond. As the silence dragged on I became more keenly aware of her trembling and the cuts, still slowly bleeding. I stood abruptly and offered my hand.

"Answer me. Can you stand and walk on your own?" she looked up again and her lips parted, her voice was slightly raspy and almost a whisper.

"Yes, I can move on my own." she didn't take my offered hand and slowly- unsteadily stood to her feet, where she wobbled weakly, standing she was almost as tall as I.

"Come, the east tower is this way." I motioned at one of the seven doors leading into the great hall, she took a step and fell- or would have if I had not caught her. I easily picked her up, I looked down at her and raised an eyebrow.

"Yes. you are very able to walk on your own." I turned top one of the servants who had been slowly moving towards us.

"My lord?" she said slowly looking from me to the woman collapsed in my arms.

"Go get one of the healers and send them to the east tower." I began to walk to the door, the young woman still in my arms.

"Shall I send up food and a change of clothes for the lady too?" I looked over my shoulder and nodded, then started towards the door again. The guards at this, opened in quickly on my approach.

The door let onto a long hallway that ran along one whole wall of the palace, and in turn led to the east tower. It wasn't the dungeon by any means, but it was the place where prisoners were often kept- if they were kept in the castle. My father may have been a stern man, but he was humane.

In the empty hallway the noise of my foot falls echoed loudly.

(no problems Shaddy, it was well worth the wiat)

Ulta | Castle's East Tower

Good Gods... I thought to myself. I'm going to be charged for killing the king, poisoning the queen and the deaths of at least six members of the court. Oh, and the attempt on Isranda's life. Even better yet, I was latched onto the prince like a leach in the attempt of not falling, yet again. Although he was being kind to me. So far. He'd sent for a healer, as well as a change of clothes and food. The prospect of food, prefably somthing warm - though I doubt anyone would listen to my preferences - deffinately appealed to my empty stomach. The steps were killing my legs but I refused to let it show.
"Prince," I murmered. I don't think he heard me so I repeated, in reply he turned his head. Somewhere in my mind I was suprised that he hadn't noticed my ears. "Why be so kind to an assassin?" I tried a smile, only, it ended up as a grimace insted.
"I don't know... Maybe because your a woman- Ah, I don't know." I nodded. I hadn't expected that. He was brave, to escort an assassin on his own, albeit an injured one.

We stopped outside an iron gated room. Propping myself up against the bars I released the prince so that he could fumble with keys to the cell. I unsheathed my dagger from my belt and held it up to the prince. I smiled when he flinched away.
"They didn't take it from me this time, I don't think the guards realised I still carried it. Take it. Just please don't destroy it... It's all I have left of my heritage," He looked confused as to what I was implying, but he took the dagger all the same. "Thank you," I said pulling my hair off my face, revealing my ears. I walked into the cell and collapsed on the bed inside. So comfortable, since when did prisoners live in such comfort? I saw Prince Hector standing there, my dagger in one hand the cell door in the other, his keys still hanging from the lock. I raised an eyebrow to him.

Tarasel

What do I do next?, a thousand times the question crossed my mind- and a thousand times it had remained unanswered.
I walked around the room franticly, waiting for answers- I hoped Joffery knew what he was doing, or there would be a hell to pay!
What's next, Tarasel, what's next?
Then, I was quickly answered- "My lord, an assassin- female- had been brought to the prince, she failed in the murder of Isranda."
"Oh gods," I said, "They got my Nassira!"
A few minutes later, I was already outside the room where interrogation took place, shivering in fear- if anything would happen to her...

I sighed in relief when I saw the girl, she wasn't mine.
"My prince..." I stated coldly when seeing Hector- I haven't forgot the argument in the morning yet...
I walked into the room silently, my eyes squinting in hidden anger when I saw the bruises on her- I whispered something to a guard outside, sending him quickly threw the corridors- I knew who were the guards in charge- and soon everybody else will too.
"I came as soon as I heard, I heard the circumstances of her capturing were... unusual..." I turned to the girl now, "You made a choice not to kill her, this probably will grant you something..."
Hector looked at me hotly, in fury over my bursting into the room- I didn't mind though, he'll just have to learn patience like the rest of us.
"General Tarasel, everything is under control here, your presence is not needed." He dismissed me coldly.
"perhaps, but it is my pleasure to watch over your highness" I replied.
I could see him getting red, but he wasn't appointed king yet, he couldn't just order me to leave.
at this point, silence fell for some time- that is until a soldier knocked on the door, whispering me that my orders were committed.

"I just had something delivered for you" I said as I walked out the door, leaving a couple of sacks on the floor.
Hector opened them swiftly, dropping them in surprise when he first saw their content.
the decapitated heads of the beating soldiers rolled a bit, then stopped- staring blankly at the ceiling above.

Keira

"You're saying I have an ancestor that's an elf?" Keira asked, eyes huge and mouth open.

"I'm not saying anything, it's just a thought." Kosey said seemingly lost in thoughts "-it's my best guess" he finished.

"I don't understand though... I don't understand anything." Keira sighed. Her head was spinning, she'd been trying to speak calmly and accept and take in all that Kosey revealed and suggested while she was trying to deal with her comeback to the Palace, her uniting with her brother, her sick mother, dead father and missing boyfriend. But it was getting a bit too much now and now Kosey wasn't only messing with her present, but he was suggesting things about her past. Still, Keira had to pull herself together, if what Kosey said was true - if she could really learn to master ice... then maybe Aodán wouldn't have to feel as though she was a burden, maybe she could help, she could defend herself - couldn't she?

"If it is true, if I have elvish blood in my veins and therefore can control ice, can you really help me master it then?"

"Yes. I will. But you must promise not to spread the word - not about your powers and not about mine, please." Kosey answered pleadingly, but his eyes were determined and Keira nodded quickly, accepting his rules.

"In return will you keep my reappearance a secret a little while longer? There are things I have to do and I'd rather pass unnoticed than escorted by the guards my brother posted outside my door. Besides, if we are to practice maybe it'd be best people didn't know how much time the princess spent with her adoptive brother - it would cause questions, and I'm not very fond of gossip."

Climalsi | Kosey's Room with Keira

Climalsi thought over Princess Keira's counter-condition. Although she wasn't fond of it, Climalsi was very fond of gossip since he listened to rumors more than General Tarasel could give Climalsi credit for. He wanted to cross his fingers behind his back and lie, but he knew Princess Keira thinks he's Kosey, so he had to keep to his word. He gave her hand a firm grasp and said, "Done. I show you control over ice, then I shall go under a vow of silence by your word. You have my word as a man who's half elf. Your training starts at first light in the morrow. We'll train in the forest so you and I can keep our silence and our secret." You're more braver to talk to your twin's adoptive sister than your twin, Climalsi. You really are a sly man, just like the fox that the soldiers call you in front of your father. He knew he was only half human, but he never goes back on his word when he swears it by his lineage. He waited for the princess to respond.
Look down and show some mercy if you can.

Hector/east wing of the castle:

I stared in pure horror at the heads of the two soldiers I had seen only moments before. their glazed, lifeless eyes looked blankly up at nothing but seemed to strike at my very soul. I could find no words, there was nothing too say. When my voice came back to my suprise it sounded like my fathers- a roar.

"Tarasel!" I shouted charging out of the east wing after the old man. I found him at the foot of the stairs looking up at me placidly.

"Yes Hector?" I was shaking, a thousand different emotions jumbled together in my mind- but one rose above all the rest,

-Why. Why would he do that? Why would he even think to do that? Why would the man who obeyed him, even had thought of doing that!?

"What was that?" I said, my voice dropping to a frigid whisper. He just continued to look at my placidly.

"What do you mean?" I stared in shock.

"Tarasel you just had two men murdered!" I cried gesturing wildly- some of the guards standing about turned their heads sharply. "Why? Why would you do that!?" I honestly wanted to know, what had happened to him in the last twenty four hours!?

"They beat that woman." He said flatly. "They deserved punishment."

"That may be, but they didn't deserve to die. Tarasel they made a mistake!"

"Mistakes can kill people, you have to learn that Hector. Sometimes you have to pay the ultimate price for your mistakes, no matter what they are." I blinked at him, stunned.

"You mean to tell me you had them killed for an object lesson?" I glared, my fists clenched so tight it hurt. "Devon was going to visit his mother at this months end, she is crippled and cannot leave her bed." I murmured. "and Rithwern just became a father, his daughter Isabella is two weeks old." I met Tarasel's eye, and for the first time in my life I held his gaze defiantly- I wasn't going to submit, not this time. He turned his head to the side like a dog who had heard a strange sound.

"What does that have to do with-"

"They were people Tarasel! They had Families, they had friends, they had lives for Gods sake! What they did was shameful and I am angry that they did it- but it does not warrant their deaths! and certainly not like that!" I pointed back to the tower. "What were you thinking!?"

He didn't say a word just looked at me with that unreadable expression.

"Tarasel, you have no power to deal out death in this city. Only the king can do that- which you are not. I expect that I will never have to say this to you again, go back to your rooms." I said coldly, matching his emotionless face. He started and his face flushed angrily.

"You have no right to-"

"I have full rights. I am still the crown prince and you only a court official Tarasel." I turned to the guards standing around and noticed they were all General Aban's men. "Captain." I addressed their leader, he snapped to attention.
"Please, would you and your men here escort General Tarasel to his rooms, he is not feeling well from his attack yesterday. Also please post them outside of the room then, I don't want anyone to disturb the General. Is that clear?" Captain Millin was as wily as a fox and he immediately read into my real intentions.

"Yes my Prince!" he saluted and began rattling off orders to his men. Tarasel glared at me with a look I had never seen in his eyes- it sent chills down my spine.

As he was- for lack of a better word led away- I watched his square shoulders sag a little. Only one thing floated through my mind then,

-What the hell was happening here?

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Haleighlia/Her rooms, then the queens chambers, then the hallway:
"As... as I was saying-- when... when do you wish to dep-depart? I'll need a couple of minutes to speak to my men ab-about positions in the markets. To ensure that you're safe." Aban said, still stuttering.
-Poor man.
I sipped my tea thoughtfully.
"Well I need to see to the queen, I have to talk with the palace healers and see what herbs they have- within the hour? would that be alright?" Aban nodded, swallowing hard.
"Y-yes, that would be jus-just fine." hr stood then, ramrod straight and bowed stiffly, I rose from my chair and nodded, giggling slightly.
"Thank you for joining me for breakfast General, this was fun." I thought I saw the ghost of a blush on his tanned cheeks as he quickly looked away. I went to my bedroom and was back in the sitting room in a moment.
"If you can take me to the queens quarters, I will wait for you while you get your men in order- does that work?" he nodded slowly. I continued as I thought I knew where his mind was going. "If you are worried about me, the queens guards I assume can keep an eye on my as well."
"Oh-of-c-course." He nodded briskly again. Everything about Aban was either brisk or stiff- it reminded me of my grandfather- the old battle ax.
**************
After a silent five minute walk we arrived at the queens rooms and I was left in the charge of the guards stationed outside the door- they did look splendid in their uniforms. I entered the darkened room as quietly as I could.
"Ah, I see you've returned Lady Haleighlia." The queen was half sitting up in bed, her breakfast tray practically untouched. I smiled, bowing deeply I addressed the sickly queen.
"Yes Majesty. I wanted to talk to you again about your symptoms and to ask your healers what herbs they are using." the queen sighed heavily and looked away.
"I already answered your questions last night lady Haleighlia when I woke whilst you were here. why do I need to repeat what hasn't changed by the setting and rising of a sun?" I sat down in the chair near her bed and looked into her face.
It was still a beautiful face. I had heard her beauty praised by many that in her youth some said she was a goddess on earth. Even still the porcelain skin and deep eyes- it was no wonder the king had gone to war for her. I folded my hands in my lap and tried to smile.
"Sometimes with the setting and rising of a sun you remember things that you didn't say before." she gave me a rye smile but it was ruined by a grimace of pain. I was at her side in an instant.
"Majesty, what can I get you?" she weakly pointed over to the side table where all her medicinal herbs were.
"The tea that has been steeped with the pain easing herbs is there."
I moved to it and poured her a small glass and was about to hand it to her when I stopped. Something looked off about the tea.
"Majesty, what kind of pain killers are they giving you?" the queen thought for a moment.
"White willow I believe." I looked at the tea again. Something was very off, I put the cup down.
"Majesty, that tea is cold."
-Not a complete lie
"I have some other herbs in my bag here that I want to try, may I?" The queen wearily nodded her head and closed her eyes.
Five minutes later I handed her a cup of my own special pain reducer tea- mixed with a sleeping aid. Another five minutes later found her sleeping relatively peacefully, and me braving the halls alone, with the pot of white willow tea clutched in my hands.
needless to say once again I got myself hopelessly lost and was about to start to cry out of frustrations when Aban came striding around the corner with more confidence than I had seen him use- he looked quite splendid.
"Oh General!" I cried hurrying towards him. "I seem to have gotten myself lost again, would you show me back to my rooms? I must put this there for later." I said holding out the teapot. he quirked a eyebrow at me but stiffly held out his arm.
"This way Lady Haleighlia."
Amar
I walked through the underground tunnels in silence, Nasira at my side and the two Temple Maidens following in a subdued silence. Through this route, the journey should only take us an hour or so, and it was unlikely that any other people would be down here to see us. Even if there were, it would hardly take much effort for either Nasira or me to take them down in this half-light.
The silence drew on as we moved brusquely though the dim tunnels, until a faint whispering from the Maidens behind us caught Nasira's attention. "Shut up," she hissed irritably, eyes narrowed as she spoke. The two hushed in response, though the taller one remained hesitant, looking as if she wanted to speak. I glanced over her for a moment, expecting her to speak, then lost patience, tugging her along and continuing on our way. She let out a quiet noise of pain, then resisted my tug, standing stubbornly in place.
Nasira sighed heavily, shooting a glare towards me. "Can't keep control?" she mocked, a slight smile playing over her lips. "How about-"
"Where are we going?" The taller Maiden blurted out suddenly, having finally drawn up enough courage to speak. Nasira's smile faded in an instant, and she stepped closer to the Maiden, taking the leadrope from me as she did so.
"I told you to stay quiet." she said softly, her tone dangerous. I watched uncertainly, not knowing how far Nasira's irritation would take her when it came to this Maiden. She stood there for another moment, gaze still fixed on the Temple Maiden, then abruptly turned on heel, tugging the woman behind her fiercely and thrusting the leadrope of the smaller Maiden towards me.
"We're swapping," she said curtly, falling back into her previous silence.
Kosey | The Fox's Den
Kosey sensed Climalsi was holding the hand of someone with the element of ice. Someone who Kosey knew. Regardless, he read through Climalsi's journal.
Climalsi- age 10
Three years since my secret cry-out, but I'm still concerned about how that could happen. According to some other soldiers, there's a half-elf in the palace who was adopted three years ago. From what the soldiers know, he seems to pass for a human than an elf. He was found by the Crown Prince, then was given a home in the palace for the rest of his life. I don't understand. Why would that half-elf live in the palace when he's still a child like myself? He had a family, lost it by flames, then got to live among the royal family. All I have is the General, who has me trained all day since as far as I can remember. I don't know why I can't have the same life as the half-elf boy. He had a childhood to remember; I don't have a childhood to keep in my memory. All my life, I've grown without a childhood. It's not fair to me at all! I've become a man when I should still be a child! I don't know how it feels to be a child and it's not fair!
The Fox
Kosey quickly shut Climalsi's journal when he heard footsteps heading his way. From those footsteps, he could tell it was Tarasel. Although he hardly met with Tarasel eye-to-eye, Kosey was afraid of him with his every being. There was something about Tarasel that Kosey's elfish half didn't like, but he wasn't sure why. Climalsi must be afraid of Tarasel as well, but Kosey wasn't sure about it.
Look down and show some mercy if you can.
Look down, look down, upon your fellow man.
Tarasel
Did he not understand?! they had to be killed, to set an example!
I turned to my 'escorting' captain: "You do know you will regret that, right?"
He just smiled and kept going- Since when did the boy had such influence on my own men?
My room door was opened, and I walked in- I had no intention of trying to struggle and embarrass my self.
Too bad the prince forgot one thing, unlike him- I knew every single secret passage in this castle, probably in the entire city, and I still had control over a third of the guards, without mentioning most of the army, I could get away, start an open rebellion, and they'll never stand a chance,
I considered the thought for a moment, No, not yet at least, this won't solve a thing
I opened the passage in the seemingly casual part of the eastern wall, then walked inside it- I wasn't going to be imprisoned by a milksop, spoiled brat- a disrespectful one as well. no king would ever send his general to his room like a child, especially not one who isn't the king yet- he had no respect!
I got out in the library, and took the book titled: "the road of the hawk"
I spent my after-noon reading.
Haleighlia/out on the city streets:
After having deposited the tea in my room for later, and getting my small bag with the money purse the prince had given me for herbs- General Aban and I were out of the palace and making our way to the market. I had begged leave to bring Souji along and the good beast and the General walked on either side of me, my wolf dragon looking disapprovingly at Aban every so often.
The General's men followed along at some short distance from us, leaving us to talk- which of course we didn't. Aban was a quiet as a stone angel in a churchyard, and just as stiff.
I tried to amuse myself with the view of the city, which wasn't so hard. The sun was shining brightly and there was a gently, surprisingly warm autumn breeze gently stirring the leaves of the trees that stiffly marched down both sides of the wide boulevard.
Unfortunately for me, keeping silence is not one of my gifts, and in less than five minutes my fidgets hiving gotten the better of me I desperately sought for something to talk about- but what? what would the general talk about with a little more ease?
"General?" I finally said thinking I might have found something, if not interesting to him might make him say something.
"Hnm?" He said catching my eye then quickly looking away. I pointed across the cobblestones to one of the private houses lining this street.
"What do you call that willow-like tree? It is blooming in the autumn, I have never seen that before." General Aban looked to the tree, blinked and cleared his throat.
"W-well- you see-L-lady, H-haleighlia, I don't a-actually know." he looked down at his feet, I swore inwardly.
-Damnation! Well of course you wouldn't, it's a flowering shrub. Haleighlia you sightless twit!
I smiled, and took his arm as he helped me over a broken patch of cobbles.
"Tis of no consequence." I said brightly, then the heavy silence descended again. I admired defeat, sighed and contented myself with looking at the graceful stone buildings.
Maybe five minutes passed then to my utter shock Aban- Aban! cleared his throat again and began the conversation anew- albeit haltingly but he was talking!
Hector/ Palace(all over):
In a daze I had made my way back to my room, and back out onto the roof- I felt less crowded, more free up there.
I was numb- what was going on!? What had possessed Tarasel? I had never seen him like that before, It was as if all his compassion and mercy had suddenly fled.
He, in my entire life had never killed men in cold blood. I knew he had killed hundreds in his life as a soldier but never like this! Cold hearted killing, that is what I had just witnessed, I shuddered at the memory of their heads lolling about on the floor.
And his face, when he looked at me as he was led away. It had been full, for one brief moment before the mask had fallen again, it had been full of pure hatred. It frightened me, what was happening?
I paced the roof poll absently, my mind racing.
-Had I done right? Or had I made a terrible mistake?
I had actually used my powers as crown prince, I had actually forced my hand- something I had never done before. My pacing led me along to the stretch of roof that Kosey's room was under, I needed to talk to him. He had a way of thinking about things in a much more logical way then I.
I slid down the roof landing lightly on his balcony, I gave three short raps to the door, strode in and came up short.
Kosey was standing in the middle of the room, almost tenderly holding Keira's hands. Keira looked like she had been dragged through a mangle but seemed alright besides.
"Ah, sorry-am I interrupting something?" I raised my eyebrows at them meaningly.
Ulta | East Tower Cells
I slept, ill at ease, on the bed within the cell. A guard had been posted there a while ago, he came baring clothes and food. I had changed, all too thankful for clothes that fit and were green in colour and the food, although it was dungeon slop, tasted alright. Nothing gorme by any standard. In one of many disjointed dreams, I saw a girl in a red velvet cloak and bare feet running through the forest, hand in hand with a man who held no meaning to me any more. In another I saw my childhood, isolated from anyone and everyone, comparing itself to my life as it was not so long ago. Placed side by side they seemed all too similar, but when linked to thoughts and feelings it was as if they were the memories of two seperate people. I awoke to someone rattaling the cell door.
"Wake up woman!" Ah so not everyone was aware of my nature, "The healer is here now," I stood, moving away from the bed and into the corner. Once I had the guard outside placed his key into the lock allowing a withered and ancient looking woman hobble into the space where I was caged.
"Now, now, girly, no need to be afriad of me. Please be seated, that way I can treat you easier," With a gnarled hand she gestered to the bed and I sat, following all instructions she gave. By the time she'd left I felt like sleeping for weeks at a time but I knew that I was healed at least. Laying back down, I waited...
Keira - Kosey's Room
"Brother?" Keira's eyes widened when her brother's tall figure entered Kosey's room. Keira quickly let go of Kosey's hand and took a few steps away from him. She was still overwhelmed with what truth she'd discovered and she wasn't ready to share these news to anyone - not even Hector. But she didn't like the thought of him thinking she had a relationship with her adoptive brother. She should tell him about Aodán...
The thought of her beloved one almost made her sink down on her knees right there and then. Ever since the day of her almost-murder she hadn't spent more than a day away from him and those few times they'd still been close. Now Keira was confused, scared and alone in a place she used to call home while the one person that could made her feel whole again was who-knew-where and she hadn't seen him in almost a week.
"No... not interrupting anything. I was just... I, my clothes - I tripped... the murder- and Ulta... I don't understand, I got lost - Kosey helped me. That's all." Keira stuttered and gave her brother an excusing smile while trying to position herself so that the tears in her dress and the dust wouldn't be all that obvious.
Since Hector's surprised face hadn't fades away yet Keira kept on speaking. "Did you want to speak to Kosey alone or do you mind me staying? I'd rather not walk through the castle looking like this you see."
