@AriaAdams - you can play the leader's daughter and she can compete! Anyone who has never paid the blood tax can and since she's rich, it's most likely her parents would have hired a poet to fight any disputes for her. Therefore she would never have paid the blood tax but may never have written a poem either xD

Just a question. How will the winner of each battle be determined? And will our poems have to revolve around a certain theme?

I'll flip a virtual coin to decide the winner, just to make it fair OOC but IC, the poets council of each nation would judge the first rounds until a blood poet is found and then the war would be judged by the councils of the nations who are travelling to witness it. Each would vote for their favourite.

@Lumi - I like Marlans!

@Lumi maybe your char went out with Ara's sister and it ended badly because she dumped him or whatever? Idk, maybe just to make things more intense when they're inventively pitted to each other and since Ara is a fellow competitor he redirects his hate/bitterness to her.

You can choose - whatever suits you! Perhaps something mountainly though like Diamond. Or maybe they call their lords Pens? Lady/ Princess would also be fine!

Sounds like a chance for delicious snark and angst...which means it sounds good. Also, Rava should make a dress for Ara for one of her poetry meets. Something of a peace offering that could easily turn into spotlight sabotage (or not).

Omnom possibilities omnom.

Someone needs to keep a Bingo card with all the racist slurs used against the opposing nation. Also, since I have absolutely no idea if anyone is ready to come into the story in the current scene, I can totes redo the tail end of my post to accommodate someone's entry.

Also forgive me if I'm missing the obvious - I'll write my first post soon, but what exactly is the significance/timeframe of the day we're starting on?

Accepted fortis!

We can be starting a few days into the search for a blood poet so both nations are still setting up in preparation of the final battle and feast and are readying 'their lands' for the host nations who will be arriving. Then staggered throughout the day are poetry tournaments to determine each side's blood poet.

As they get closer to the final ceremony (I imagine this would take several weeks to give them time to go through the hundreds of poets who would apply and to give the other nations time to travel) then the poetry heats will become fewer until the final two face off against one another. By this point, the council may even take a full night to debate and discuss who the winner should be, while at early tournaments they will announce it on the spot.
