"Your friend isn't the first person this man's kidnapped -- other men, women, children. He's snatching people, running off with them, then selling them off to the highest bidder. I was sent to arrest him when guards went off on their power trip and decided to arrest me instead."

"Something like that," Derik agreed. He couldn't remember what sort of political structure Nye had -- and doubted a random criminal he met was going to know about alternate realms -- so it seemed easiest to just agree. "The asshole's kidnapped one too many best friends, you know?"

At first, he kind of meant it as a joke but when he thought about it, it wasn't a terrible idea. Hell hath no fury like a... he couldn't remember what the saying was. But he was sure best-friend-love was a motivator that could be helpful in trying to find this guy.
He tried to tap into the R'hyk again, but it still wasn't there. He could almost feel the slightest tickle there to taunt him, nothing more. He hit the wall behind him, annoyed. "If we can figure out a way out of here without Transporting or your blam-blam."

"Oh, it's--" Derik waved his hand vaguely, realizing he shouldn't have said that. But he was committed now. "I lied. My magic takes you here, puts you here."
Derik gestured to demonstrate.
"I could get us both out without breaking a sweat if I didn't get drugged," he grumbled. "Wouldn't have let them arrest me if I knew they were going to cheat."

"Wouldn't have LET--" Kazimir started before he released another short, booming laugh.
"Okay, okay, okay, okay. That's freaky magic but cool I like it. Risky. I like it. So this is your first time with the drug, huh? Low tolerance... low... I have high -- HIGH tolerance. Had it before. Sometimes for fun. It's fine. It's not hitting me as hard. I think I can maybe get some spark back before they come back with another dose. Maybe enough to... hmm... or I could just snap a neck. OR! Grab 'em and hold em as a hostage til they let us go. We have options."
"For fun?" Derik scoffed, surprising himself with how outraged he was by it. "Why the fuck would you do this for fun?"
He'd have to think about the other options Kazimir suggested. It seemed Derik was going to need to be the voice of reason here. As usual. But the man was big and strong and motivated, and that could be helpful.

"Sometimes you just need to relax, Derik," Kazimir said like it was obvious. "It's a lot less stressful when you're just doing it with friends and not in a holding cell."
"Yeah, well..." Derik rubbed his neck resentfully, remembering where the needle had gone in. "We're in a holding cell."

"No shit," Kazimir replied, getting to his feet and inspecting the door again. He pressed his face up against the little window, peering out into the hallway. It was empty from the angle he could see through, but he knew there were guards on either end, just out of sight.
"They're probably listening to us, you know," he muttered with his lips squished against the door.
Derik was quiet a moment. He should have kept his mouth shut about Transporting. "... Yeah."
"Good thing we're just joking, ha ha!" Derik said loudly. "I'm just hoping to get my hearing soon. Since I'm innocent!"

Derik glared at him, hoping he'd catch up soon. "I don't know what you're talking about. All I know is that if there's a guard listening, I'd really, really like to get a hearing soon. Please!"
