HELLO!
I'm Ben Franks and I love to read and write! Anyway, I assume you've clicked on this topic because of the extroadinarily attractive title it has and then suddenly realised that it's for the asking of reviews and pondered on the thought before going, "Ah yes! That's what I was here for!"
So! If you want a review, you best read on! If not, then Hello -- nice to meet you, but this probably isn't the topic for you...
YES to Reviewing!
- Dramatic/Other/Narrative Poetry
Example review: topic57395.html OR topic57401.html (Scroll down to my review)
- ALL Arts and Photography
Example review: topic57415.html (Scroll down to my review)
- Historical Fiction
Example review: topic55673.html (Scroll down to see my lengthy quote-based review )
- Fantasy Fiction
Example review: topic57405.html (Again, scroll down for my review)
- Non Fiction
Example review: (Non-fiction's my writing speciality! However, I don't yet have a significant example review so here's my non-fiction work so you can see if I'm "good enough" topic57293.html)
- Science Fiction
Example review: topic56831.html (Scroll down to my review)
- Other Fiction
MAYBE/NOT MY STRONGPOINT to Reviewing!
- Action and Adventure Fiction (I enjoy reviewing pieces of Act&Adv with strong plot development, otherwise I generally can't grasp where your headed)
- Chapter-by-Chapter fiction (I'll review if I've read your first part/prologue/chapter)
- Advanced Critique (I'm not brilliant at these as time is precious and you'd have to give me a good week or two to have a proper, thorough tone down of it)
NO to Reviewing!
- Scripts (Because I don't know how to review and it'll be disastrous)
- Lyrics (I just can't. I'll sing them for you on a Kareoke night if I'm tired but no)
- FanFiction (I can read it, but not review it. Sorry.)
- Anything rated 18+ or R. (I don't mind the odd bit of language or "16+" works, but I dislike vulgar, gore-filled, swear-packed or sexually explicit works)
Anyway...
Now that's out'a the way, I suppose you'll be wondering how my reviews work. Well don't panic! I'm going to give you an explanation, but it'll be brief because my mind is elsewhere. Such as the thoughts of, er, nevermind. Anyway here's a little about me:
- I can do in-depth reviews. (This is where I quote your whole work and give you my thoughts and suggestions in an italic coloured font for you to revise)
- I can do short and snappy feedback. (Basically a few sentences on overall effect)
- I will ALWAYS comment on content.
- I will ALWAYS comment on effect, meaning and language.
- I will point out anything that doesn't read good 'n' proper!
- I will rarely, but if asked to will, help you with grammatical edits.
- Offer my overall thoughts!
What? You want to know more? Am I that interesting? Oo...
Okay, I love reading columns, rants, moanings and especially ANYTHING with HUMOUR in it!
I also really adore thick plots and dialogue.
I love characters who are completely different from people
I love writers who set their works in places where I haven't been before
I'm a real sucker for mystery!
What YOU need to post!
* NAME of piece
* Three sentences about it!
* a LINK!
* Any specific things you'd like me to look at
* and GENRE! in a funny colour if you like
Time? Huh? Oh!
Okay, here it goes...
in-depth reviews: (2 days)
a queue of reviews (upto 3 days)
if I display an "EP" Warning (Exam Period) then upto a week, but no later
any advanced critiques (depending on length 1 week to 3)
Okay, so get posting and I'll crack on.
Lots'a Love!
Ben.
