Young Writers Society

From approximately 3pm GMT to 9pm GMT on January 18, 2013, the Young Writers Society was unexpectedly down.

The problem was with our hosting provider, VPS.net. They suffered a hard disk failure in their Chicago B zone, which is where the YWS server is located.

Unfortunately, this isn't the only problem I've had with VPS.net recently. Nor is it the first time they've had a hard disk failure. Moreover, when problems arise, they provide very little information. By contrast, during the Cloudflare outage earlier this week, Cloudflare was constantly providing me with information about the issue. Yet we pay nothing for Cloudflare while we pay hundreds of dollars a month for VPS.net.

I was already considering switching providers prior to this outage, so YWS will now be definitely switching to another service soon (Linode.com most likely).
