Jasmine sent me a PM and calmly explained to me why and how I was wrong! It looks like there was indeed a bug that allowed people to double-submit when the contest had an open submission process. That bug has now been squashed. Thanks Jasmine for reporting it!

I was just browsing the Offical Polls threads and I clicked on a few that I had already voted for, and I was kind of bothered when it didn't tell me what option I had voted for. I mean, it's not anything huge, but it would be to know what ones I voted for, because I don't remember. Is there a way to just bold the choice that I voted for, or to put a check by it or something?

Just wondering.

Jared, the one you picked is in bold. Example attached. I voted 'no.'

It'd be nice if there was a spot, maybe up top or by Notifications that said how many unread messages you had in your Inbox. Yes, it pops up when you get a PM, but quickly goes away after a single notification. Having a reminder somewhere other than the front page might be nice too. Just a thought. :)

Your menu ends up saying that. It's a black box on the right side of the screen, on the home, Contests and Blog pages. When you have unread messages, it goes bold and shows how many you have.

Yes, but what about the ones that you voted for a week or month ago? I voted for the poll about ghosts, and when I click on that thread, my answer was not bolded or anything, and I didn't remember what I put.

Weird. Does it for me too with older polls. My guess is that it's only polls from before YWS was updated to the newest version of phpBB in August 2009. So it's a bug, but it's not one that I feel like fixing anytime soon.

I like the extra points thing on works with no reviews! It's an awesome idea. I was wondering if the same principle could be applied to novels and novellas, to encourage people to review those masses of novel chapters that nobody ever glances at beyond chapter three.

Thanks Tenyo!

I'm reluctant to do something like that since the purpose of the extra points is really to just ensure everything gets at least two reviews. Extending it such that any chapter got extra points regardless of reviews would probably be too broad. But, I do agree something needs to be done about the way novels are handled on YWS. Under the current setup, many people are left waiting until a Review Day to get a comment on their chapter, and that's not right. And then there's the problem that you can't easily follow novels or navigate between chapters.

So, I'm working on something that will hopefully fix those problems (although it'll be a while before it's done).

Just a suggestion here:

Would it be possible to make it so every time you log on to YWS, only the posts that you have not read that have been posted/commented on after your last visit would be marked unread? Because pretty much every single thread on this site has the new post thing on it, and considering it's not really NEW, could there be a way for only the new posts to have that sign? Argh, sorry if that didn't make sense. IT's two thirty AM, and I don't know what I'm still doing up. I'm just clicking around the site and noticed that.

BigBadBear ->> I do agree with you that's annoying, but unfortunately it's one of the "features" of phpBB 3, which is what YWS runs on. Long ago I looked into changing it, but it's devilishly complicated.

One thing you can do, though, is click on "Mark All Forums Read" on the Community page. You'll see the link on the right hand side just underneath the "Last visit was..." text.

A quick comment... for me, the PM page takes three times to load compared to the other YWS pages. Just something I noticed.
