The effects of teen “Sexting”

We were all young at one point. Have you ever been young and in love? Thinking they were the one for you? Then comes a day when they feel like they want you to send the inappropriate pictures. When you take that picture to send, you’re actually breaking the law. In a article “Teen Sexting can have serious consequences” by Joshua Herman it states “anyone he or she should know is under the age of 18 and who is engaged in any sexual act or in any pose involving lewd exhibition of unclothed or transparently clothed genitals, pubic area, buttocks, or female breast. There is no exception for taking pictures of oneself. Thus, a 17-year-old who snaps his or her own revealing picture has technically created child pornography, a Class 1 felony with a mandatory fine of between $2,000 and $100,000 and at least four years in prison.” So my opinion is don’t sext if you want to send the pictures why not just go and have sex.

1 reason you shouldn’t sext is in a article “Teen Sexting can have serious consequences” by Joshua Herman it says “after hundreds of people were sent sext messages a teen had sent only to her boyfriend, she was cruelly harassed through MySpace and Facebook, leading her to hang herself.” People can do cruel things like this leading to killing yourself. A second example of this is when somebody gets your phone and goes through it and finds the pictures and reports it to the cops. Example of this is a article “Sexting” Suit Settled by "The Associated Press” it states “A Pennsylvania school district has settled a lawsuit alleging that a principal illegally searched a student’s cell phone, found nude pictures she had taken of herself, and turned the device over to prosecutors.
The 2,737-student Tunkhannock Area School District denied any wrongdoing, but agreed to pay the student and her lawyers $33,000 to settle the case. So this is important because it shows that people can find the pictures and get you in major trouble.

Some parents are very concerned about their teenagers. In an article "No worries? Well, maybe a few ..." Current Health Teens it states the top 10 worries parents have about their teenagers: “1. (Tied) Drug abuse, 2. (Tied) Obesity, 3.Smoking and tobacco use, 4.Teen pregnancy, 5.Bullying, 6.Internet safety, 7.Stress, 8.Alcohol abuse, 9.Driving accidents, 10.Sexting (sending and receiving suggestive text messages) so this shows that parents are concerned about their teenagers. Also you shouldn’t do sexting it puts you down and makes people think that you are a “whore”.

Some people may disagree and think sexting it amazing and that they love to do it, but in my opinion it’s a disgrace to your body. Some of you who might be reading this may say that sexting is the greatest thing on earth….argue with me tell me why you think sexting is amazing. If you think that your parents won’t find out; well they can check the internet and go to your phones carrier and find what you have sent. A good example of this is from “Teen Sexting can have serious consequences” by Joshua Herman “Families should discuss the legal and moral issues surrounding sexting. Parents should frequently review their child's social media, e.g., messages on cell phones, Facebook, MySpace, etc., and set rules for the use of such media. Teenagers and their families should also review their school's policies related to electronic devices and prohibited student conduct Teens should not create, possess, solicit, or send/forward sext messages. Teens possessing such messages involuntarily have a defense. To ensure the efficacy of this defense, teens must be vigilant in discovering and deleting sext messages.” They should do this to keep you safe from breaking the law.

Like I said we were all young at one point. We have you ever been young and in love? We were also thinking they were the one for you? The reason I chose to write about “Sexting” is because I know people that have sexted; they got into so much trouble and lost internet for 4 years and just got it back. They also realized that doing the “sext” was disgraceful to their body and their reputation. Plus the picture will never ever go away after you capture the photo; the person you send it to is also a disgrace they receive/send a picture it’s just wrong. To keep you safe don’t “sext” messages also its breaking the law and under the age of 17 that is considered as child pornography and you can go to jail and get sentenced time for each picture that is on the phone. Sexting can ruin you and those pictures can follow you for the rest of your life it’s never going anywhere. Plus I know you don’t want to get in trouble for sending nude pictures I know I wouldn’t my mother would kill me. So stay safe and don’t do this and do what people say how sexting is cool and how much a girl or boy wants a photograph of your personal areas. Those pictures can get you in major trouble with the law and you will always have a reputation of being a “whore” or “being easy” or just plain “desperate” So please remember this while you are reading DON’T EVER SEND A SEXT MESSAGE NO MATTER WHAT OR WHO. I know your parents want yo keep you safe and keep you out of jail.

+1. But when me & my girl do it, it's generally harmless. We're only teasing. In fact, it isn't even sexting. Just....sloppy romantic stuff :D

Sexting: It's just stupid, immature, and illegal. Where's the class and respect in romance these days?

I'm not exactly sure when it comes to just text, but if one of the participants is over the age of consent while the other is under it, it's probably at least borderline illegal. If there are pictures involved, and either of the participants are under the age of consent, it's almost certainly illegal.

Other than that, it's obviously legal, and I honestly have nothing else to say about it. I don't make it a habit to judge other people's private affairs...

At least in my State, teen sexting is absolutely illegal. That's why I think it's a stupid thing to do. There are plenty of other ways to express attraction or love that are legal.

At least in my State, teen sexting is absolutely illegal.

This might come as a bit of a surprise, but your state does not constitute the entire world. I am technically a teenager, but here in good old Straya I'm an adult. If I so desire I can drink alcohol, smoke tobacco, watch porn, drive a motor vehicle, buy a gun, enlist in the military and be deployed in combat, fly an aeroplane, vote in elections, run for office, and take a photograph of myself naked and send it to my [adult] friends. Stop generalising and start sexting.
Do not go gentle into that good night.

It may just be illegal in my State (which I was not intending to use my State to represent the entire world, but thanks for misunderstanding), but that doesn't change the fact that it's ridiculous.

It just depends on your perspective, though. I, however, see sex as a respectable, honest practice that you share with your wife, not some quick, self-gratifying, hedonistic activity that you do with a girlfriend. And sexting, in my eyes, is the latter.

Sorry for being a romantic.

Lol. Sexting sounds stupid. Crappy romance novels are better at conveying romance in words than sexting is... and that's saying something. XD

As far as the pictures go? LoL...

Girls: I love the fact that if you take a picture of your boobs or whatever, then your boyfriend or whatever has the chance to show all his guy friends your rack. Very classy, that is. I especially like it when they keep this as blackmail. Really cool, yo. And you do know guys do this quite frequently? :P

Guys: Next time, you should definitely put a measuring tape when you take a picture of Mr. Long. That way, you can objectify yourself even further and also have proof to how long it really is. You might as well go the extra foot... if you know what I mean. :P

This may sound a little devil's advocate, but if a girl wants to sext, and the receiver is totally okay with it, that's alright with me. If the boy leaks the photos or someone else leaks it from his phone, that's a dick move on their part, but the girl should've understood that that was a risk to send a naked photo of herself to anyways. If you sext, you have no right to complain if it gets on the internet.

To me, making sexting illegal is like making anal sex illegal. Both are abnormal sexual acts that are looked down upon. But does that make it wrong? Does that warrant legislation? I think people should mind their own business.

To me, the only real consequence of teen sexting is societal persecution. People can't get over the fact that you took a photo of yourself and sent it to a guy/girl, so they call you a whore or a slut. I don't think the fact that you send a picture of your tits or your penis makes you either.

And I'm not condoning sexting either. I would never sext. I'm just saying people have their own choices. They have to be smart and understand the risks.

At least in my State, teen sexting is absolutely illegal. That's why I think it's a stupid thing to do.

You think it's bad because it's illegal? That can't be your only reason.

It isn't. I mentioned other reasons and I totally agree with Snoink.

The problem is, if the guy or girl is a minor and someone puts it on the internet, it becomes a matter of child pornography. So, let's say a 13-year-old girl decides she wants to send a picture of her breasts to a guy. The guy posts it online. He has just posted child pornography, which means he can be convicted with pretty hard measures, including prison time.

Yeah, the girl was stupid. But the guy just committed a crime. So, off to prison he goes, lol.

I think that's probably why people want to make it illegal to sext for those who are minors, actually. To make sure that the person giving the picture is culpable for the crime as well as the person who is receiving and proliferating the picture.

Sexting, like everything else when it comes to 'indecent exposure' is just another reason for people to fear their bodies. Or, at least, the naked body.

I personally don't like the idea that the naked body is anything other than beautiful, no matter the shape or size. So to cover oneself at all times because it is indecent or inappropriate seems extremely silly to me seeing as we are supposed to love ourselves and our bodies and yet are told that such a thing is wrong. Do I particularly like the idea that it is inappropriately implying sexual advances when it comes to minors? I really couldn't care. Their choice, not mine. And, quite frankly, if they think themselves old enough to feel the need to express their bodies sexually to one another, than they can feel the sting of consequence for themselves.

After all, our generation seems to forget that there is such a thing as consequence.

If you're so eager to get upset over sexting, don't sext. Simple as that.
