Ever heard about the board game LIFE?



When I was younger I used to love that game. The fact that I had my own 'money', my own career, my own house, my own car and my own family was ideal for me back then. But the other day I got the opportunity to play it again, and I realized that is not actually life.

Basically, the game teaches how capitalism works. You'll work to spend money. To the point you'll have no life. You'll pay your house, your taxes, and all the other stuff, like the doctor, vacations, etc. You'll pay for your kids' education, and you'll see them four hours a day. You'll waste your life hoping to save money for when you're older to get a car, a boat and a house.

But then again, what's the use of it? If when you're old you won't be able to drive that Lexus, you'll be to tired to sail that boat and you'll be too sick to want to walk around your house?


Makes me think of that quote, "Every man dies, but not every man lives"

I know the game and it's gathering dust in my closet as we speak. I used to play it a lot when I was younger but I lost all the cards and cars and those tiny pegs for children were annoying, so I stopped. I think you're making a big deal out of nothing. Nobody is forcing anyone to play and it's just a stupid little game that kids play when they're too old to play house and too young to get jobs and live life.

Lol, Jasmine. Chiiiill, girl. The point in this topic wasn't really the game. Is what life is according to some people. xD And do you know, some people actually live life like in this game. No offence.

Lol, Solvy, I didn't realize I was acting very serious about it. I refrained from going LOLOLOL at first because I thought you were talking about the game that seriously. I don't believe I was wrong to think that considering the title is called 'The board game LIFE' and most of the topic is spent explaining the game.

You know what the real problem was? That I wrote "Capitalism" in the descriptiom box and "The board game LIFE" as the title and it should be vice versa... xD Lol.

I grew up loving that game as well, not realizing just how subversive and bourgeois it was.

Capitalism is a nice political and economic system, although the state was made by the people for the people. The only problem I have with capitalism is that poor people become more poor and that rich people become more rich. The rich seem to exploit the poor people for their own selfish advantages. Most blue-collars or workers are under-payed because people seem to think that they are 'Uneducated' and that rich people are praised so much for their intellectual prowess that they are given lots of money for their doings.

That's not quite right VitaminCakes. But there is an accumulation of wealth in capitalism, and the gap between rich and poor does widen perpetually. That's why (in the perfect world) government regulates and corrects its course.

My view on capitalism: freedom of the individual has nothing to do with economic liberty, which is quite simply the right to exploit others for profit.

Capitalism is the Naive belief that the people will choose a company based on who has the best product. It is also the naive belief that if you work hard, you too can become rich. But there are many flaws to the system. The world of business is dirty and some businesses, especially the big ones, will do about anything to win public support while trying to assemble products as cheaply as possible. This could include third-world exploitation, unsafe parts, lobbying, campaign funding, smear campaigns on competing companies, etc. As a result the company with the most money is not always the best. This also means that not everyone starts on the same line. Rich folk start maybe halfway to the finish line while poorer people may start a little behind the start line. My belief has always been that people should not be discriminated for their economic status and that everyone should be given a fair shot. This sounds like socialism but I'm not in favor of a completely socialist system. I do believe people should spend their money how they want to but if they aren't given equal oppurtunities, how can we really expect them to be the venture capitalist or entrepeneurs that the system supposedly set them up to be? In other words Capitalism needs to be regulated and people need to be given need where need is needed. As for who has truly lived I will say this. Although money is a nice thing to have, the people who truly live are the ones that, if they had to die that day, they would be satisfied with their lives. That's different for each person, but it's better that way.

Although I prefer capitalism to communism, I simply hate the notion of money. It is idiotic, and could be avoided. At least in some large areas. I actually came up with a city system which would not use money within itself and still survive in our world (and prosper), and might actually write something about it later. I call it: Patronocracy.

Yes, I agree, capitalism exploits. However in the absence of any known workable alternative, it must remain. If everyone had equal chances, the cost of living would skyrocket. Did you realize that? If everyone had an equal chance, there would be no reason to save money to pass on to the next generation.
For some to be rich, many must be poor. Some will ALWAYS be richer, no matter how much regulating goes on.
But, taken that if every one were to have an equal chance, in that everyone would have an equal amount of knowledge, values, weaknesses, strengths, quite simply, automatons, no one will succeed. Everyone will simply be the same, genetically, or otherwise. (It is known that genes are sometimes “unfair” to certain people) Everyone would have to be conditioned to think exactly the same, feel exactly the same, be exactly the same. If they are not so, they do not have the same opportunities.


Money simply is a representation of the value an object is perceived to have. If we eradicated money, something else will take it’s place. Battering, for example. That has happened before.

Also, Draknghar, I would very much like to see you post on such a thing. I might even give input, not that you would particularly value it, notwithstanding any value it may contain.
