Here is a small slice of information about the main country of Arzutare in my first novel. there are 4/6 pieces of the map put together, i still have to draw the last 2 realms. i have since renamed the country Arzutare and kept the capital realm solely as Arzuria, the capital city is now Arzuritan.

these were drawn on the day where i wrote 3500 in a matter of hours, more than i have ever done in one day :D

Ok, so here comes small bits of info and history, once i have them all done they should slot together like the maps have done.

The Delgarian War of Independence.

Spoiler! :
Lands involved:

• -Arzornia of Arinalgar

• -Isle of Delgar.

Houses Involved:

• -Arzornia – Arzor, Arna, Avoran and Akathar

• -Delgar – Delgar, Larno

Year: Osirigardin the third: 488

The war began when King Dilnar of Arzuria noticed that the dominion of House Delgar had begun to ignore laws made by Arzornia and its sister realms (of whom did not have much say, but still followed the laws).

The conflict was an aftermath of a previous war in the first age, which ever since it had happened had caused nothing but difficulty for the Arzornian monarchy.
Delgar was one of Dyrnasrus’s (of the House Arzor and sun child of Orisigardin the first) children. He fled the lands north to evade his aunt Elarnarsur who had begun to conquer Arzornia. He found refuge in the separate lands north of his home and upon people realising who he was they heralded him as a victorious leader. He denied such allegations because he had fled when his kingdom burned. However, he vowed that, if he got enough support he would march back into Arinalgar and confront his sun child aunt.

Eventually he gained the followers and was made King of the Isle. He took his army back into the southern lands but upon reaching his old home he found that the queen had gone further south to conquer the border. He instead was faced with dealing with Lord Korvon of whom he had a vicious battle upon the battlements of Fort Korvon. His armies meanwhile charged into Viran Arna and killed many of the men which guarded it. Korvon managed to escape and Delgar returned to his armies. They claimed victory and held Viran Arna for many weeks. Then, Arsur’s true descendent came and took hold of the city. Korvon fled to Argar to speak with his cult of lords. Delgar returned to his island.

When the king built his empire in the third age he took control of Alorna and Erivania. Ghalania surrendered to the Kornians of whom were willing to be ruled by Arinalgar. The king then looked north in to the lands across the divide and declared that he would take Delgar. Of the four houses in Arinalgar, all vowed to send their armies in aid. The other realms did not get involved.

The four Houses of Arzornia converged in the lands of Ava Olrinari (The Fingers) in the north. There the armies met in the rain. The campsite was huge and from the forests around great rafts were built. They were sent into Delgar, but the shores were greatly defended. Many Arinalgarin people were slaughtered and fell into the waters. The people of Delgar followed their King’s orders and launched catapults onto the mainland. One rock which was flung was struck by lightning as it flew. (this rock now sits in Larinian’s Castle) the nearby woods were set alight and the waters were rough. Finally though, after two days of rain the forces of Arinalgar made it across in cloudly, yet sunny skies above the dividing waters. They stormed the shores of Delgar and took out all of its coastal defences. The catapults were sabotages and the armies moved inland. King Lindarg of Delgar’s hall heard of his enemy’s advancement and ordered all of his men to the capital to hold its walls.

The approaching army had since taken abandoned catapults with them and now used them on Delgar’s walls. They fell like crumbs as did the soldiers atop them, falling into the heavy pile and being killed almost instantly. King Lindarg attempted to flee north, but then a rock was launched over the city and fell onto the bridge which went over the ravine next t the castle. The king fell to his death. The moral of his armies since fell and eventually they surrendered. The King of Arinalgar took Delgar as the jewel in his crown of the lands he now controlled. Six realms to an extent, later five when Delgar became part of Arzornia.

A couple of years later the King of Arzornia died, but throne was left empty. His bloodline was falling. Long had it been diminished since it was ruled by a sun child and now it seemed one was never to be born into the line again.

The king of Alornia took over the country seen as his realm was the largest of all six, it was he who merged Delgar into Arzornia. He seemed like a new start for the country after so much corruption, but his days too were to be short lived. He died one year before the end of the Third Age of Osirigardin. His throne was left empty once more.

Once the news had reached the lands that the sun child was born in the west and his lands were being burned by Argar in spite of past wars, the Arinalgarin people were naturally happy. Then they heard that the sun child’s fleet was headed for Calamiha, south of their own borders. Quickly a new king, of the Arzonrian line, was placed upon the throne and many rallied to his support in readiness in the case of an attack by the sun child. But none such came for a very long time. The first war to happen would actually be of Arinalgar’s dong anyway, the sun child would have to defend his own countries.

Arzurian system of government

In ‘Osirigardin the first’ King Kanar ruled over all five realms; Arzuria, Kornia, Alornia, Erivania and Ghalania. He could make the laws he wished by consulting both the court of Lords and the court of Generals.

The two courts have come from far back in Arzutare’s history, not only did King Arzur possess such advisors, but the Nyshuhrian royals too.
The court of Lords was originally made of publically acclaimed politicians who specialised in different areas of society.
In the first year of the fifth age of Osirigardin the lords were still largely this, but they also had influence over large areas of the country. Each lord came from one of the larger cities in Arzuria.

The court of Generals is made up of the highest ranking Generals in the Arzurian army. Usually they have served for over thirty years and served in many battles. They have not changed a great deal since the beginning either, but in the end of King Kanar’s rule they began to grow.

The other rulers of the other realms were the second highest authority in Arzutare. Since the fourth age of Osirigardin had begun the separate realms had been given their own powers in national affairs.

The lords of the realms were kings in their own rights but were answerable only to the high King. They were also of higher authority than the two courts.
From Kornia there was King Onnovar
From Erivania there was King Enathar
From Alornia there was King Lanothar
From Ghalania there was King Yinarth.

However, in ‘Osirigardin the third’ the country had just come out of a political crisis.
Ever since the country was defeated at the war of Danalavonia, tensions grew in society. King Kanar was dead and was replaced by General Larinian of the court. He was hence made Lord of Arzuria. The first thing he did was to lessen the powers of all other Kings in the other realms and made them his subject. His radical approach to military reform as popular amongst the masses and many joined his army which struck fear into the other realms.

The court of Generals had become vastly more powerful in matters whilst publically the Lords had become far less powerful. The original lords were either killed or exiled along with the King and new ones were brought in. though no one really knows who they were. They were men of black robes and stayed in the shadows most of the time. Inside, the lords were Larinian’s deed-doers, they were superior to the Generals and were involved in affairs across the board.

It seemed now that Larinian had full control over Arzutare, but this was not the case. In his greed for power, he had received envoy from the western lands of Argar and their lord had made a pact with Larinian that if the sun child returned then Argar would have the right to kill them. Larinian underestimated Argar’s power and called their bluff in secret. However he soon realised that his western ally was in fact far more powerful than he had imagined.

The Unfinished History of Rindova (from chapter 8 and 9)the woodland town upon the ancient river.

Spoiler! :
Rindova

Founded in the second age of Osirigardin, it was originally a lot larger upon the shores of the river and was formerly the royal dock to western Arzornia. However, when Rhandyr’s armies landed upon the shores of the river they burned down the town which was defended by a high palisade. All was left was burned ruins which burned as bright as the capital it guarded. In the end, all that remained of the original village was a small residential area where a single Inn dominated the sky as opposed to the fort which lay north along the river. A new wooden palisade was built around the town, which now no longer remains. Homes were rebuilt but the lives of the people living in the remains of the once grand town have changed dramatically. They were once militant and opulent, now they are agricultural and laid back in approach to external issues.

Since then only one King, Narvarn (Kanar’s grandfather) visited the town where it still was regarded as a royal settlement. However, when attempting to militarise Arzuria, his son, Anvar declared that he could not afford to keep Rindova under his control as the country faced a downtown in the economy. This negligence continued when Kanar came to power.

Then, when Larinian came to power he began to make plans to retake the old realm of Arzornia. He began to scheme against the Kornians of whom he underestimated their power. His first step was to send men to Rindova and station them there so they could explore the nearby mountains for the ancient capital. This was one of Larinian’s secret plans which were never unveiled to anyone but those involved. They were part of his secret idea of rebuilding the old kingdom and using the former capital as a base to deter any uprising of the uncontrollable Kornians.

and as for the map, only 2 parts left to do, and 2/3 of Nyshuhr left. Bearing in mind that in real life this is actually quite a large scale map. I have attached a version without important names labeled, and a version with them.

edit 4/5/12 - Kornia added to map.
edit 10/5/12 - Ghalania added to map.

Oh, the dreaded writers block..careful planning has evaded such a farce..
in the end i made a map of the area in the chapter and as the line of travel went on i marked what was happening at certain points..i thought i got lucky with chapter 9, cutting it down from 12000 to 10000 words. However i forgot i still need to add loads, so i am going to split it into chapters 9 and 10. This TFP will now be 20 chapters in length, allowing for a higher wordcount on the middle 2 chapters and thus pushing the projected final count upto 175000 words.

i've began to work on what i call 'UTCs' (Unique character traits) which should help personify my characters so they're more distinguishable on their own.

in the mean time i have began to design the unique architrectural characteristics of the main cultures in Part one (Arinalgar) which i shall upload when their done.

but just as a 'play-around' thing i have put together what i may make my facebook banner, featuring the 2 main characters, Princess Sahfire Tavral (left) and Ember Galinorn (right) it is the first time i have made 2 realistic versions of the characters and put them together. this is not a pc effect i have added, i laminated both and put them infront of a halogen heater, then took a picture on my phone...simplez..anyway, here they are!

Photo0873.2.jpg

you have seen Sahfire before, but now you know what Ember looks like! (good thing really as she is my 'main MC'!)

also soon i should be able to post a range of designs for my own range of armour mentioned in the novel.

Been hard at work lately, managed to finish chapter 11, added a 12th chapter featuring a major battle and have now began to design the armour and some of the places.

first we have Argar, the great northern kingdom which goes to war with Nyshuhr. i painted these with watercolour yesterday.

Photo0928.jpg

The armour is that of a commander

The language is Argarian.

argar2.jpg

The flag is a dragon with five arms of the wing, reopresenting the five lords of Argar

Photo0936.jpg

The figure is Lord Tagryth, one of the five lords and the character which is killed at the end of chapter 12.

going by the designs on the armour and flag, can you guess what secret Argar is hiding? the lords want the Osiriniak items (the sun vaults) and invade Nyshuhr to get them, but when they begin to get defeated they unleash hell, but how?

Just continuing on from the last post now.

The two sets of armour here consist of Arzutarian (from the fifth age of Osirigardin)
the other is the Nyshuhrian (from the third age of Osirigardin)

i was inspired by the use of coats of arms for the Arzutarian one, and i think it turned out quite well.

Photo0927.jpg

Arzutarian

Photo0926.jpg

Nyshuhrian

Photo0934.jpg

The next picture is that of Rhushar, the eastern capital of Nyshuhr. this is the main scene for chapter 12 and the great battle where Lord Tagryth is killed on 'The Shore' the area north from the bridge gatehouse seen in the picture.

So that's it for now, when i get time i will do more paintings as they seem to be quite successful. i feel relieved that i can actually create art so i can show people what i'm writing about.

now to finish my epic battle :D

UPDATE: Oh i've just realised, if anyone is thinking about reading the story, hold off on chapter 2,3 and 4 as they are lacking in quality compared to the others, they shall shortly be revamped. i mainly just need to get the characterisation correct and the conversations more fluid, as well as removing uncessessary content. these 3 chapter are my longest i think, so i'll see if i can change that.

Damn this is impressive. The uniforms in particular really give the feel of regional and historical identity.

It actually reminds me of the work done in the Wayfarersmoon comic, where the author intersperses his irregular update schedule with worldbuilding. An example would be here:

http://www.wayfarersmoon.com/index.php?page=261

I feel incredibly envious of the talent displayed here, you're clealy able to build a vibrant and flourishing world around your story and I'll certainly try to find the time to explore it more fully.
So you're going to kill a god. Sure. But what happens next?

Diary of a Deicide, Part One.

Got YWS?

Hi Rubric! thanks for your comment, means a lot to me hearing someone say something like that. good thing is, is that i really enjoy designing and painting this armour! and i intend to do more sceneries

A couple more pieces of armour now.

The first here is that of the Uhrians, olive in colour and decorated in painted scenes on the shoulder plates (each one is unique). on the shield you can see the goddess Enighuir cradling the sun in her hands amidst other patterns. the Uhrians come from a mainly desert land and so wear no full-on armour.

uhrian armour.jpg

The second here is Calamihan. You will notice that it is very similar to that of Nyshuhrian in design. this is because at the beginning of the fourth age of Osirigardin, the Empire of Nyshuhr fell and its people journeyed to Areddun, south of Arinalgar (Arzutare) where the original Nyshuhrians had originated from. the refugees merged with the people of the province of Miha and eventually the new capital in the south bore more Nyshuhrian traits than Mihan/Areddunian.

calamihan armour.jpg

i tried to paint the shield twice, but it keeps coming out wrong, so i'll work on that. the helmet is pretty much the same as the Nyshuhrian one, just with a red main on top.

if anyone reads my first chapter, they'll realise that i write that the cloak on the Calamihan armour is purple. this is true, the cloaks come in 5 colours, one for each province.

Purple: Biha
Blue: Aruma
Green: Riha
Red: Miha
White: Eluna

Chapter 12 and 13 are complete. well, additional scenes are being added to 13, but it is done nonetheless.

I now take it in turns to write different parts. some nights i write the chapters, some nights i write the background, and a damn big background it is too!

I shall post an example of how far i'm going with it. i have now made colour maps of the countries from the first and second parts of TFP (working title)

You may see four crests below. in order they are the sigils of: Erivania, Arzuria (late) Alornia and Kornia.

img052.2.jpg

The Realms of Arzornia (later Arzuria), Erivania and Alornia were the three original realms, later in the first age, Kornia was born from the pwoers of a former Lord of Arzornia. In the second age the powers began to shift in the country of Arzutare.

Below: a description of how the power shifted between two Houses claiming the throne in Arzutare and why it's political system is so off balance.

Spoiler! :
When the old Fort Agar fell, its people were in poverty and looked to new leaders.

Two men came forth from the dark. Arzur II, king of Danalavonia and Arzornia. Also Lortigar of Alornia.

The people chose their allegiance and followed the two men in different directions. Those who followed Arzur II were taken west to the island of Ringwater in the ruins of the once grand coastal fortress. There a new city arose named Arzuriutan or ‘Capital of Arzur’

Those who followed Lortigar were taken south to the already existing hold of Lovarn. There they renamed the city ‘Alornitan’ or ‘Capital of Alornia’

The rightful heirs to the throne were that of the Arzur line, but Lortigarn soon became far more powerful .in the months that followed the ‘void of the people’ as it was known, great plans began to assemble. Both sides planned to take on and defeat the other in the old lands of ‘Barthor’ from the ancient Era.

In the ____year of the second age the armies of Arzuria and Alornia met for the first time upon the River Othor in thousands. This then begun the most bloody civil war ever to take place in the Era of the Sun, the Battle for the King’s Banner.

After eleven years of constant wars both countries were left weakened. Lortigar had been killed, but his brother, cousin and uncle took control of his armies and led them to victory. The House of Lovarn became the rulers of Arzutare and the city in Alornia became the new capital. It remained that way for another thousand years.

At a royal ball in the mid fourth Age, the King of Alornia, and his family and knights, were assassinated. The king too control of Alornia and sent his new secret armies to all other realms, even to the distant plains of Ghalania. Arzutare quickly became a five-Realm-country.

The king’s banner was now that of a sun with a blades stabbing the core from four sides, symbolising the time after the death of Emperor Olrilar in the southern lands of Calamiha.

The will of the House of Arzur was left unchallenged for another three hundred years.
The King was assassinated by one of his high ranking Generals at the beginning of the fifth age and all other realms lost their titles of Kingdoms.

The banner of this General (now Lord) was that of the system of government in Arzuria, the Chamber of Lords and the Chamber of Generals. They now held the highest authority in the country and ruled under the gods. The Banner was called ‘The Gods and the Greats’ two stars represented the two chambers whilst six others represented the gods.

Here is an example of the history of the country in the first book (Arzutare/Arinalgar)

Elgari (The Elder Era)

The Elgari Era saw the beginning of the first great Empires and Kingdoms of the ancient world. it saw the greatest battles for thousands of years and the most awe inspiring forts and cities to have ever been built. The eastern Kingdom of Arinalgar was the most powerful nation that ever exised. Its cities were tall and grey with the most exquisite architecture seen anywhere. The King of Fire was born (the first form of sun child, but his family never lived to produce another) The Era ended when the great mountain of Halvaro erupted.

This is just a small part of a 5313 year history of the country.

Second Age of Elgari:
Spoiler! :
...Year 545: The beginning of the ‘Foreign Snare’ as it is known begins. The fight between Avantar and Arinalgar goes off to a start. It is so called the ‘Snare’ because many made it out that the foreign queen who would eventually marry into the Amor family, would purposely have an affair with a man from Barthor t start a civil war.

Year 555: The walls of the old capital castle come down as the war for the Golden Basinet comes to a close. The Avantari King rules Arinalgar for a while.

Year 562: King Negarn I defeats the House of Avantari, but ends up marrying the beheaded king’s sister, thus mixing the houses.

Year 565: The Queen, a woman of Avantari descent, has an affair with a man of Barthor. This triggers the feud between the two great holds that would last for another 271 years. The largest civil war the country has ever seen takes place at the base of the great grey mountains. Barthor is close to winning, but they pushed the Amarians back to their capital where they held the causeways and walls. This led to their eventual victory.

Year 570: Plans are made for the new castle of Stormgate Hill.

Year 700: The great castle of Stormgate is completed under the rule of King Negarn II. It sat high upon a hill with three large causeways leading up to it, each over 100 miles long. This was to be the scene of many wars to come in what would be the country’s second most turbulent period.

Year 705: Five holds tried to fight against the capital after it drew work and resources from the rest of the country. They all fell at the hill and the fields of Stormgate became the largest graveyard in history. It would take several years for the population of the other Holds to restore. The five Holds fought under the banner of Barthor as they had an allegiance with them. The capital, whilst it meant well to maintain its eastern defences, neglected the western lands.

Year 711: Elgarn tries to invade the capital and many men managed to break into the castle, but they were soon killed. The catapults what fired from the castle managed to destroy all invaders whilst the men of the capital went out and slaughtered the rest. The men of the other holds could not come as they were still regenerating after their other war, but they did not want to fight alongside those that killed their friends and families.

Year 721: News comes of another Elgarnian invasion. The grass of Stormgate is covered in flammable materials and when the enemy comes a single arrow of fire is sent into the ground and ignites the fields. This is what became known as the battle of ‘Firestorm’ coming from ‘Fire at Stormgate’ it was over in a matter of hours as opposed to days or weeks. The Elgarnians had learned their lesson. The capital of Arinalgar could not be challenged.

Year 723: King Negarn II’s cousin tries to claim the throne. This starts the civil war of the House of Amar. The castle of Stormgate is half destroyed, but the cousin, Fogarn eventually wins. He takes his throne and his family takes the line of kings from there.

Year 752: Another small battle, the battle of ‘Treehill’ takes place with Barthor and ends in the death of much of the eastern country’s crops. Later in the year, the battle of ‘Watersedge’ happens on the great river.

Year 753: The 12 year time of the great famish begin. The time of the great heat begins which makes life even worse. Thousands begin to die. The same year the battle of ‘Easthill’ happens on the foothills of the eastern mountains, this is the closest battle to Barthor’s capital.

Year 765: The great famish ends with weeks of endless rains. The fields near rivers and seas become flooded and waterlogged. The starvation may have ended, but the malnutrition had begun.

Year 771: The great malnutrition ends, but the lands are still waterlogged.

Year 773: another small war with Barthor occurs

Year 788: Prince Ilarn is born, grandson of Fogarn.

Year 802: The boy is born that would later become Atharn, the Fire King.

Year 805: Prince Latan is born.

Year 836: King Gorn great grandson of Fogarn, was born the year his father (Latan) won a war with the second largest Hold in Arinalgar; Barthor. This was to be the last great civil war of Arinalgar.

Year 879: King Gorn wins at the battle of Stormgate when the Elgarnians tried to invade. Stormgate was what became the entrance to the great sea that appeared at the end of the Era. Gorn was aged, but his strength was unchallenged. The high walls that surrounded Stormgate saw the greatest serge of any enemy force upon the land ever. After almost being defeated, the men of Barthor arrived in defence and pushed the Elgarnians back. After the victory, many years of peace came. Gorn was allowed to build up his kingdom until his death.

Year 928: King Nindar is crowned when his glorious father died at the age of 92. He vowed that no more wars would happen in Arinalgar, but he could not have stopped all hostilities.

Year 936: 100 years from the last great civil war, another broke out, but not as large, it was petty and fought over much small land. The Holds of Pagath, Donvan and Ragan were in a viscous feud over a small area of land called ‘The Knoll’ which held precious high ground at the base of the mountains. Nindar sent in his own men to end the feud and called all Hold Lords together to agree to build a fort of three councils to govern the land. This was known as ‘The Tall Trio’ agreement, but it would not be long before the fort’s construction was held when a great flood happened and swamped the fields of what would become ‘Kornia’ two Era later.

Year 945: To mark the celebration of the second millennia of Elgari the Second, King Nindar held a large party at his castle. A messenger arrived and said that the Eastern Shores of Elgarn had been taken by the forces of Atharn. The Fire King was on his way inland. That was the year that all seven Holds of Arinalgar stopped their fighting and came together as a nation. All fighting seemed irrational when such a larger evil was at work.

Year 948: King Nindar readied his men for war when he heard of the growing power of the Enorivan Kingdom. However, he learned that King Atharn’s health had stopped ambitious plans to travel so far and so he felt more relieved.

Year 958: The armies of Arinalgar were dismissed when King Atharn stopped his armies at the war of the Elgarnian Capital. Ever person in Arinalgar celebrated. The great war had ended and a new age of peace came.

Year 966: News came of the great mountain of Halvaro erupting. King Atharn had angered the sleeping fire with his final war with those who tried to invade his lands, now the wake of destruction was on its way. People began to worry as they feared all would end.

Year 967: The great wave that pummelled Enoriva travelled east and west into the Eastern Continent of Ethsagar. A large amount of water made its way down the Othgar channel between Elgarn and Thorynwor and struck the low lying lands of Gorna. The capital upon the hill was battered by the wave and the fields which surrounded it on all sides of the three causeways were lost to the sea which was now expanded and the new stretch of water was named the ‘Nindar’ to celebrate the last king of Arinalgar. Thousands died and the grand age of old Arinalgar was gone. The ash cloud drifted over the mainland from the great mountain and killed many more. Those that survived had to form their own colonies amidst the ruins of once grand cities. Some went mad, some perished and some managed to go on to found small towns, the beginning of the new lines of royalty and future feuds. <

The map of Arzutare:
arzutare colour.jpg

The map of Calamiha.
calamiha colour.jpg

Where the two countries meet is where lies the city of Danalavonia, as seen in the first scene in chapter one.

I must also say that i am beginning to like my villain more and more. his reasons for his actions are merely so that he can remove the threat of the sun child from the world and keep his country safe. Ember, without realising, already has obtained 2 crowns (the sun children is feared for destroying kingdoms and taking them for their own power) Ember inherited the crown of Nyshuhria and then went on to remove the crwon from the Kornian King/Lord. she begins to realise why she is hated.
Not many remember how life there began, in the lands amidst surrounding walls of stone and pools of deep darkness, but whilst they forget the secrets of the past, they begin to riddle the future with their growing lust for knowledge, greatness and power.

Hey Kyllorac! its always good to know someone's keeping a look out  thanks for your kind words :P

Now i've got 6 weeks off, not only will i attempt to finish the novel, but i will try and make weekly updates in this thread, perhaps by-weekly.

Onto the update:
I have now finished my 13th chapter completely. Whislt in my opinion it lacks background compared to the other chapters, it is a chapter i do not get bored of reading. there is a lot of action that happens in this scene and, whilst in the medium range in terms of word length, it is rather fast paced.

Chapter 14 has required an extra effort in worldbuilding which is what i've tried to do over the last couple of days.

I made a map of the area too, showing the castle in the mountains and the Kornian occupation line, as well as the roads and where they go. you can also see the path that the next chapter takes.

img054.jpg

This is the first introduction to the Realm of Erivania, the most peaceful and least powerful of the 3 primary Realms. With Arzuria you get the feeling of power-hungry, corrupt capitalists who don't care much for the law and take it very much into their own hands. With Kornia you get the notion that they are very militarised people who obide their Lord's commands and fight for honour and without cowardess. With Erivania i have to now create the impression that they are peaceful, nature loving folk who love their Lord/ King and have a natural resentment for the other 2 main realms, and Kornia.

The chapter starts off on the southern borders of Kornia, which are supposed to be the lands of Erivania, but over the passed 17 years Kornia has began to occupy more land at Lord Larinian's command.

We see the main storyline pick up in a cave beneath an old castle which took a fair bit of thinking. The two sisters walk through the old halls which gives me time to describe the look of the place, and to go with that i drew a partially-technical drawing.

Here's some extracts from the story (subject to change)

Spoiler! :
/Near the waterfall the rock arched over and formed a lower entrance into what looked like an ancient cloister. The stone was cold and dark and formed the frames of once grand arches. Ember gazed out of them as she was led through them and saw that the ground beyond took a dramatic drop into a forest far below. She did not think much of it as she passed, not even how high up she must have been.

The ceiling was old and cross vaulted and burned, as were the walls where many deformed statues stood/

/Around the cloister there was a lobby where the ceiling bore holes which allowed the light of the early day to enter. There was a wider inner hall opposite with higher cross vaulted ceilings and large windows looking out onto a lower court of stone.

Finally Ember and Sharla stood before the remains of two grand doors/

/Ember stood nervously before the doors and waited for them to open. When they did, two Erivanian soldiers greeted her and allowed her entry.

Hanron and Haren stood as she approached them, but she was too distracted. A great hall stood silently before her. Wide and tall windows lined the curved walls that protruded far beyond the mountain slopes. The walls looked burned and damaged, as did a stone table in the centre, guarded by a number of chairs carved from the same stone as the floor/

Here's a frontal representation of said castle.
img053.jpg

I wrote the history of the castle too, this is how specific i am getting that i make separate histories about certain places.

Spoiler! :
A quick history of the main points of the history of the first place seen in chapter 14. The history spans well over 3000 years, spread across 2 Era.

Engori Era

The Second Age of Engori

Year 1: The Three Brothers take their separate and secret armies into three corners of the land, securing the ancient realms and ruins and naming them for them selves; Arzorn, Alorn and Erivan. They named their new Realms; Arzornia, Alornia and Erivania. Arzonria was based in the mountains of what was originally known as ‘gods' tail’. Alornia resided in the old lands of Barthor whilst Erivania was in the trees of the lesser regions.

Year 52: The King of Erivania wanted to be able to overlook his kingdom and so he had a grand hall built into the southern mountains. It stood tall and strong as a great icon of Erivania for many years, heralded as the most splendid of the three capital castles.

Year 55: The castle is completed, the ground and much of the furniture is carved from the stone of the mountain whilst the upper walls and towers are made from stone bricks.

Year 58: The Lords of Arzornia were ordered by their king to burn the castle in jealousy. The king died saving his wife in the fire. The blaze in the mountains could be seen for miles away. The Queen of Erivania was told that it was the mountain tribes that lived between Arzornia and Erivania that had caused the fire for no real reason. For this, most tribes were slain and their home burned down.

Year 60: The Queen visits the ruins of the castle one last time before heading to ‘Hollowhill’ where her new castle was already being built. This is the castle that still stood in Erivania in the fifth age of Osiri.

Year 121: The castle is revisited by the Lord of Divania, one of the regions of Erivania. He tried to have the castle fixed, and much of it is returned to its former splendour, but the rock had grown weak in many places and the ancient ceilings began to hall in areas, some sections fell from the mountain all together.

Year 255: The Hall is the place where the treaty is signed after the three Realm civil war. This is the last time the hall is seen for another 467 years.

Osiri Era

The First Age of Osiri

Year 5: Lord Korvon acquires the ruins of the old hall after he is banished from Fort Agar in the dying capital of old Arzornia.

Year 8: Lord Korvon gives the hall to the mountain tribes and gains their support. He then takes control over them and begins to plan his uprise.

Year 13: As a result of Queen Elarnarsur’s support the Lord is able to begin construction of a new fort near the mountain summits. The old hall is abandoned once more as the new region of Kornia rises

Year 17: the tunnels into the old Erivanian castle cave in and make it inaccessible.

The Fourth Age of Osiri

Year 462: The Kornians clear the tunnels and find access to the castle after years of it being forgotten.

Year 465: The Erivanians rid the Kornians from the ruins and reclaim them for their heritage.

Year 480: The Erivanians use the old hall which overlooks the realm to take secret meetings about the Realm.

The Fifth Age of Osiri

Year 17: the sun child is led to the hall where she holds meetings with the Erivanian powers to discuss a plan of action. It is the first and only time a sun child will ever visit the hall.

***

What must be understood is that Kornia, although classed as a Realm within itself, in fact is not as such. It is actually a dominion of the Kingdom of Arzuria. However, when Lord Larinian came to power, he ended the line of kings and thus the entitlement of Kingdom.

The Alornian King had contemplated taking control in the revolt in the capital and return the capital title for his own Realm/Kingdom. Larinian was quick to advance however, and his men reached Alornia before anything could be done. Because Arzuria was the kingless capital, no other Realm could out-title it and they were thus left as Realms without being a kingdom at the same time. Kornia was granted the title of ‘Realm’ after years of desiring as such, Larinian wanted to renew the ancient alliance between them in the hope that they could enslave Erivania as it was far away from the capital.

Kornia however, realising their potential began to revolt, especially under the influence of a Lord from Argar. The result is what happens in this first novel .

So tonight i shall write more about this place. there is a large meeting that occurs there between some large powers i.e. the former prince of Erivania, the Lord's Master, the Lord's general, 3 lesser Lords and of course our sun child, Ember.

And to finish off, i decided to have a go at making a 3D computer model of the place, still needs to be worked on.

Also, as a reminder, if anyone does plan on reading TSCV, please hold off on chapters 3-5 as they are to undergo a major revamp to renew their quality.

Enjoy :D

Not many remember how life there began, in the lands amidst surrounding walls of stone and pools of deep darkness, but whilst they forget the secrets of the past, they begin to riddle the future with their growing lust for knowledge, greatness and power.

I wish I was as good at map making (drawing) as you. You're quite talented!
When I was young I used to have problems finishing my sentences, but now I

Hi DudeMcGuy! I hope it is a ride you'll enjoy to say the least :D

Map making isn't that hard when you learn the basics, as for the drawing, i have had 17 years practice

Update:

I realise that many of you here read my updates, but have not read the story itself. Because of this you will not really be familiar with the characters or plot. so i think it is time i explained it to you.

To start with, here are some pictures i produced of some of the main characters.

Firstly, my new poster i drew of Ember (after she became Queen) looking rather bloodthirsty.

Photo1138.jpg

Secondly, a picture of Ember and her sister Sharla escaping the capital on horseback after the largest breakout and rebellion the city has ever witnessed. this is from one of my favourite chapters (7)

img055.jpg

And lastly, a graphite picture of Princess Sahfire from chapter 12, where she fights against thousands, against the odds.

Photo1140.jpg

Ok, so here are some of the background of the characters prior to the first chapter even.

From Arzutare

Ember Galinorn
Spoiler! :
The main character. She is the sun child of the 5th age. All her life she has been locked away for reasons she cannot know as her mother has told her that she would be killed if she got out. Through her protective captivity she suffered from bouts of depression and often sat in her room thinking to herself. She had never spoken to her father and as of late she began to wonder why flames act weirdly around her. The only thing that keeps her sane is her little sister.

Sharla Galinorn
Spoiler! :
Ember’s sister. She is quirky and uplifting in her approach, though she can be overly serious and uninterested at times. It has always been her job to make sure her sister is ok when she seems sad. As a result of her father, of who she never saw, she had to attend a military academy where she learned to defend herself as well as having normal lessons. She would go home every day and teach Ember what she learned, hence why Ember seems educated despite never going to school. She was rebellious at the academy and was often in fights, of which she won.

Emlyn Galinorn
Spoiler! :
The mother of the two sisters. It has always been her job to make sure her two daughters were kept safe. She dreads the day that either of them begin to appreciate Lord Larinian’s militaristic rule. She used to work at the linen factories in the district of Arnur in the capital of which she and her daughters live. However she was forced to leave when she stole clothing and brought it home for her daughters. Ever since she lost her husband she has been pessimistic about the army and remains sarcastic and unwelcoming to visitors. She only trusts her daughters. Sharla is the more mischievous one who is always getting told off whilst Ember remains more argumentative.

Hanron Farnal

Spoiler! :
One of the Generals of Koren Court, the military barracks. Sharlon, (Emlyn’s husband the sister’s father) fought under him at both wars of Danalavonia. He himself has served in many wars and has over the years grown to hate his position, but resigning as General before he is of age (70) is an executionable offence. He hates Lord Larinian who is unjust and power hungry. His wife died at childbirth when he had his son of whom he has come to hate. In his post in the Court he befriends the rebellious recruits who have been punished by being sent to the army, and he sends them all to one regiment, building an army to one day strike.

Sharlon Galinorn

Spoiler! :
Sharlon had grown up with his best friend, Harl (son of Hanron) working on the capital’s docks and joined the army with him after Sharlon was convinced by his father to join. When his father died he was not as motivated to fight, and further still, Harl had begun to fall in love with Emlyn, a young pretty woman. Over time Sharlon too came to love Emlyn and the two had an affair together, just before Emlyn split away from Harl, leaving him sour and heartbroken. The two friends began to hate eachother and Emlyn was caught inbetween, she was nearly killed in a row between the two once. When the fighting had died down she and Sharlon moved house across the capital where they could get away.

Harl Farnal
Spoiler! :
The son of Hanron. He grew up aspiring to be a fearless fighter by his father and was happy when he found his friend Sharlon was joining the army. After Sharlon stole Harl’s love, he turned bitter and went his own way. since then he has been nothing but ill mannered and malicious to all those below him, but licks the boots of those higher. He is of a higher rank than his father and looks down on him. He is one of Lord Larinians’s most trusted Commanders.

Theran

Spoiler! :
He was born in Erivania and moved to the capital with his parents when they wanted to make a life for themselves. After 10 years of living in a district which was becoming increasingly dangerous in underground cult warfare, his parents were killed. He was taken in by a king couple and raised. When he turned thirteen he began to wonder the streets by himself and always seemed to find himself in the wrong place at the wrong time.

And from Nyshuhr

Sahfire of the House of Tavral

Spoiler! :
The Princess of the Nyshuhrian Empire. She is the sun child of the 3rd age. All her life she has hated what she is, as has her overpowering father who fears that his daughter has become stronger than he has. The only person she can talk to is her brother, but even she has arguments with him sometimes. At the age of 12 she managed to defeat her father in a sword battle after he daught her, that was the day he began to fear her, and her mother watched as she became more isolated from the family, often talking to herself and thinking too much about revengre. By herself she became more paranoid and worried of those around her, fearing that many wanted to kill her, but it had become too much for her to handle.

Fehrnire of the House of Tavral
Spoiler! :
Sahfire’s brother. He is the prince of the Nyshuhrian Empire, albeit he wishes he wasn’t. just like his sister, he fears what powers he has inherited through the family he was born into. He has always been afraid of disappointing his father and as a result has always pretended to be interested in war. In reality he has a peaceful mind and gets a little distressed when he hears clashing metal. He suffers from light autism, has a weak mind and is easily led. He confides in his sister, but likes to talk to the groundskeeper of the palace as he is just as pacifistic as he is. His wishes to please his father one day take the situation too far.

Sahfron of the House of Tavral
Spoiler! :
The King of the Nyshuhrian Empire. He has led his country to victory many times before, and was loved by his people as a result. His wife, Feher, he has known all his life and they married in the days before Sahfron’s father’s death. He loves her with all his heart and would do anything for her, he even taught her to fight.
He was delighted when he had a son, but as he grew he became more concerned about his pacifistic lifestyle, favouring nature over swords. He was then mortified when his daughter was born as the sun child, he initially hoped she would not learn of her abilities, but when the sun priests gave her the crown she grew to love, her mind was unlocked to the fire she possessed and Sahfron hated it. secretly he loves both his children, but he acts harsh towards them to try and make them both stronger people.

Feher of the House of Tavral

Spoiler! :
The beloved Queen of Nyshuhr. She is a great public figure in the capital, always speaking to the lower half of society on her husband’s behalf whilst he is away fighting wars. She always feared having children because of the pain and commitment, but she grew to love the two she gave birth to. She watched as her husband grew futile towards them and she could not do anything to help. Only once did she stand up to Sahfron about mistreating the children, but she learned her lesson and became quiet on the matter. Towards the end her love for Sahfron was still there, but it was not as great.

There are around 30 other characters i can write about at this point, but that will take me, well, a long time.

So the synopsis is rather intriguing i must say after all my recent additions. There is not just one storyline happening, there is around 5 or 6, depending on the chapter.

The storylines:
Ember and her companions
Lord Larinian and his army
Lord Verna and his manipulation
Lord Ranthar manipulating the two other Lords
Sahfire and her followers
The Lords of Argar communicating.

it is challenging wiritng so much, but damn does it make wiritng it more satisfying. it is not just one bland plot with a single goal. there are many goals going on, and the political and social aspects are constantly changing. In that respect it makes it similar to 'A Clash of Kings' i suppose.

I will try and explain the storyline so far as best i can and make it clear to understand. But that will come later. i have already tried to write it in simple, but it is too hard to explain and so i will come at it from another approach later.

basically, here's an overview:

********

Ember discovers she is the sun child and has dreams about a girl called 'Princess Sahfire' who lived a thousand years before her across an entire ocean. Both girls are linked through the princess' crown (hence the name) and their lives seem to be parrallel to one another.

All her life Ember has been trapped inside the capital of a country that wants to kill her. she watched Sahfire flee her own capital after it is infiltrated by her own royal guards (who turn out to be Argarians).

Ember then too escapes the capital she lives in with the help of her sister and others. their plan is to head south and cross into the country of Calamiha, just as Sahfire's journey is to take her into Argar.

Powers beging to stir as the Lord who hunts Ember is controlled by a Lord of 5th age Argar. he also controls the Kornians (the old allies of Larinian's Realm) he then secretly sends them onto eachother to tear their own country apart whilst he calls in his own armies to hunt for Ember because she has a crown that his order forged two thousand five hundred years before.

Ember learns more about who she is and why the sun child is feared throguhout history. she suffers losses and falls to pain many times before she finally reaches the city where her father was killed in a war that was supposed to kill her.
Not many remember how life there began, in the lands amidst surrounding walls of stone and pools of deep darkness, but whilst they forget the secrets of the past, they begin to riddle the future with their growing lust for knowledge, greatness and power.

After managing to write around 14500 words in one week I realised that I am making substantial progress in terms of how far I am to finishing. If I can manage this, I’ll be done in a few weeks where the story should be around 160,000 words in total. I was worried that after the halfway point the story would begin to drag a bit, but its only after the mid way point that the real crux of what is happening becomes apparent.

The sun child of the fifth age of Osiri, Ember, finds herself in the company of Erivanians and befriends the former prince. She, her sister and this prince end up getting split from the rest of the group who take the route to Alornia. Alornia has been overrun by their old rivals of Arzuria, of whom Ember used to live amongst. It is clear they are catching up with the sun child and her companions as they head for the southern border. The Kornians are also on the move south and whilst the Lord of Arzuria attacks Alornia, Kornia attacks Arzuria. The Realms’ armies are circling around the country and fighting, all with the hopes of killing the sun child one way or another, it is however, apparent that the Lords of Argar have control over the entire situation and intend to use the civil bloodshed to usher in their own armies from across the ocean….wow that was a mouthful inside my head, lucky I don’t have to breathe when I speak inside my head =D

I have now managed to comprise a map of the entire city of Arzuritan which is he main setting for chapters 1-7. it took some doing but I got there. Have a look for yourself. If I could label it you would be able to notice establishments such as:

Ringwater Castle: the home of Lord Larinian and before him the royals of the House of Arzur. Built in the early 4th age as a northern defence from the sun child of the 4th age. It sits upon an old fortress from the first age.

The Court of Koren: The army barracks, the armies of Arzuria train here. The Kornians built the court and taught their combat skills to the city when it was new. That alliance is now long gone and the court is also used as punishment when lawbreakers are sent to be disciplined.

The Court of Lords: the house where 100 politicians sit. They are the industry owners of the city, as well as the finance sectors and the law courts. Half of the lords come from the other main towns of the Realm

The Court of Generals: the house where 100 of the Realms highest ranked men may sit. They discuss war mainly, but since Larinian came in with his militaristic ways he uses them to discuss politics also.

The Legacy Academy: the school where the children of soldiers go and train. It is a high class school that is strict and gives the students skills useful in the army, as well as a history of the world and who to kill.

Marketplace: the thriving market down Arnur Street where the goods of the city are flogged, many coming from the docks.

Docks: where the ships deliver the goods to the city. It is busy but often sees much crime that goes unchallenged.

Churches to the six gods: separate churches to the different gods: Agath, Endath, Imendath, Ranagoth, Kinomath and Tanakoth. Each have their different subjects of worship. Heir names come from the old language, ‘ath’ meaning female and ‘oth’ meaning male.

Bank: the place used mainly by the wealthy who live on Ringwater island.

Court of Ringwater: the court used for lesser crimes and can punish criminals only to jail or unpaid industrial service.

Agar Square: the square east of Ringwater castle and upon Arnur street where a fire beacon stands. It is the top half of the one which used to stand upon Fort Agar in the Arzornian Mountains.

Hillwall: The round mound of earth east of the city’s wall. This was the original first age defence line for the fort that originally stood on Ringwater. As time bore on it became evident that the wall would take too long to build and fund and so it was cancelled, only being a quarter completed. It now marks the boundaries of the city and the end of the region where the city’s fields lay.

The population to the north is the industrial district, the island in the middle is Ringwater, where the aristocratic and better off live, the lower district is the common populous. The expenditure of Larinian’s military ambitions have crippled the economy and so the men of the army are forced to wear chainmail and tabards as opposed to full armour. This has a knock on effect as Alornia is in the same position. Erivania is more separate and secluded and are able to make their own armour without the financial adversities of the capital having any affect. The mid 4th age was the last time the country had full armoured armies. The days of Arzornia saw the greatest armour manufactured as the men lived in the mountains where the ore was unlimited.

The Arzurian archers wear leather tabards as that is not as expensive. they do not wear any metal armour, but the swordsmen and spearmen only wear metal helmets, shoulder and arm plates.

img058.jpg

So that is enough about that city for now, I’m not writing much about it now until the third or fourth book in the SunChildrenV series.

I have also been working on the lifestyles of the people of the country of Arzutare (was Arinalgar) I wrote before what you should expect from the four Realms, but now I will introduce the architecture.

First is the Arzurian and Alornian sort. They are the same as eachother, but Arzuria is built of grey stone and Alornia is white. It is based loosely on 15th-16th century English castles with octagonal towers and large cloisters and halls.

img059.jpg

Here is a better look at the crests of these 2 realms. With Arzuria you can see the ‘Gods and the Greats’ the 2 stars representing the 2 Courts of Arzuia. The 6 stars represent the gods. The crown of the Lord Larinian can be seen at the top and the 2 swords at the side represent the militaristic lifestyle. The Alornian crest features the 2 wings and 2 flags. To the north west and south east there is open land and sea (the 2 flags) to the north east and south west there are mountains (the 2 wings) the crown of the House of Lovorn can be seen above. The 2 shields at the side represent the protectiveness of the people and now they cover the swords shows that they are peaceful people, contrasting to Arzuria

Also with Alornia, I have begun to draw the castle that sits high upon a hill in its capital. You can see the architecture at work on it.

img060.jpg

More to follow tomorrow, including: Kornian and Erivanian architecture as a shorter post, but after that i shall post the background of the transition of Fort Agar from one era to another, showing its capital as seen in chapter 10 and 11 and also the hisotry of the Osiriniaks (the five items on which the SunChildrenV series are based) i have designed the sword to my personal perfection which is saying alot considering how much i have changed it, but that's it for tonight. i am devoting my life to this world at the moment, every day writing and drawing, so um - watch this space :D
Not many remember how life there began, in the lands amidst surrounding walls of stone and pools of deep darkness, but whilst they forget the secrets of the past, they begin to riddle the future with their growing lust for knowledge, greatness and power.

Ok, so i am skipping the other architecture for now and getting straight to what appendices are supposed to be for, the background stories. in due time i'll attach pictures to this thread, but for now you'll have to make do with words, which i'm sure there won't be any problems with. i think writing The Sun Children I will be the most fun and interesting, but that's eight books away yet. here's a snipet of what is involved in that book.

***

Fort Agar was the last fortress built by the Amaran people before the seas devoured their lands. It then stood as the last city of the greats and the mythical world that was forgotten. For centuries it was thought to be the only proof of the old world ever having existed, but then the ruins of Stormgate castle were discovered upon an island east of Arzuria.

When the ash and waters had gone the only people that survived from the Amaran race were those in the mountains. They found their lost city, abandoned and incomplete. They then finished its construction and it quickly became their home and kingdom following the only Lord of Amar to survive. He was the nephew of the last King of Amar.

The ancient enemies in the lands of Barthor had too survived, but as they had little places to hide from the chaos of the red mountain they were weak. The Lord took this to his advantage and wiped out the Barthorians once and for all, leaving their ancient civilization in ruins. Their language was however, conveyed into the mouths of the Armarans who found it easier to learn and speak.

The Lord’s wife then gave birth to three sons and named then; Arzorn, Alorn and Erivan. Quickly they grew until their father had died and they were left to rule the city of which was a thriving hub for people who had also survived the darkness. its beacon burned bright and was seen across the lands and all knew they could find sanctuary there, but not for long.

The day came when the three brothers decided to split and look for their own lands. Alorn went west and had a fortress built upon the tallest hill in the old lands of Barthor. Erivan went south to the lost lands of the lesser clans and had a fortress built upon the mountain face which overlooked the forests. Arzorn however, behing the eldest, stayed behind and ruled Fort Agar. He named his new lands ‘Arornia’ a name which was to be feared for centuries to come. His brothers then named their lands ‘Alornia’ and ‘Erivania’. The ‘ia’ added on was old Amaran /Arinalgarin for ‘iah’ which meant the people of, but in the possessive form, meaning that the Realms possessed the people under the name of their King.

*The founding of the three realms then marked the start of the new Era.*

Fort Agar was still standing strong some thousand years later, after many assassinations and guerrilla battles had occurred within its walls. It finally fell into ruin when the twin sun children of the following Era split away and went to war with one another. The city was the scene of a violent fire fight and even after that a great civil war saw the city fall. It was then shadowed by the fort of Lord Korvon who built his base high up in the mountains.

When the female sun child went west after killing her brother she took with her the stone that her father had recovered and which had given her her abilities. After her death however, the stone was taken by her secret Order of Lords, Korvon of which was one of them (his descendent was Lord Ranthar in the 5th Age of Osiri). The Lord who came from Argar discovered that the dead sun child had hidden a second half of the stone all these years and took it with him.

Meanwhile the other half was given a ritual and then taken deep beneath the young city of Rhushar where it was melted down, its ore bore golden liquid. It was forged into 5 items; A crown, a sword, a pendant, a ring and a spherical stone. These items were the ‘Osiriniaks’ so named for they were forged in the Osiri Era, and ‘Niak’comes from ‘Niahrk’ and is the possessive term for the gods, of which the sun children were deemed.

The items were to be given to the sun children every time they were born, but after the Lords died and the palace was finished in Elarnitan, a war broke out over the items of which many people are not aware. This war then saw three of the items; the crown, the sword and the ring, taken to the new palace whilst two others were still hidden.

Emperor Rhandyr was given the golden stone of which he gained his abilities.

Princess Sahfire was given the stolen three items, but gaind her abilities from the ring.

Emperor Osirivan was given the sword of which he drew his power.

The other two, and the sword were taken east when Nyshuhria was finally decimated by Argar and they were situated in the capital of Calamiha/Areddun. After the fourth sun child’s (Osirivan’s) death however, the sword was taken and was not seen again.

Ember was given the crown when she was five, but her parents knew not where it had come from. It turns out that Lord Ranthar had given her decsendents the crown to pass down in the family until she received it, and by chance, she did. The plan was to make her gain Sahfire’s abilities and use them to destroy the country, but Sahfire was not as evil as everyone thought.

The sword then eventually returned and was used to stab Ember upon her losing connection with the crown. the colliding fates of Sahfire and Osirivan eventually killed her.

The sword of Osiriguard:
img057.2jpg.jpg

*the second half of the stone*

The second half of the stone which was taken by the Lord from Argar was secretly forged into five more items; golden masks they were. The masks were then given to the other Lords who fell in love with them and did not resent the other Lord for taking the part of the stone. He knew he had them under his control. These masks were then passed down to their ancestors and because they were made of the same metal as the Osiriniaks, a sun child was unable to send their fire unto the Lords if they were wearing them, just as the Osiriniaks protected the sun children when they ere wielding their fire.

The masks and the Osiriniaks are the key part of the storyline throughout the 10 books I plan to write.

I have put off posting an update for a while, just so that i can finish a bit more background work. Meanwhile i have been busy in re-writes. Chapters 4 and 5 have been merged into one, a new chapter 4 has been added purely about the downfall of the Nyshuhrian Capital. Chapter 6 has been lowered from 10598 to 7967 words (not an easy task) and apart from that i have been altering the plot a little, which means i'm going to have to go through everything else and correct a fair lot of stuff.

Writing has slowed now, in three weeks i wrote 45000 words, now i'm lucky if i manage a thousand words a day, i think i've been on overtime really, my concentration and punctuality is waning a little compare to the norm.

I will soon though, post some of the swords from The Sun Children V:
Osiriguard (already posted)
Barthborn
Kingsbane
(a few others which haven't been given specifc names)

Also i will get round to posting a picture of Fort Agar and The Golden Basinet. after that i plan to begin making an encyclopedia of everything i have written about so far. Arinalgar/Arzutare is becoming more and more detailed in terms of history by the day.

So, i have two more bits of background here. They are not supposed to be perfect in a literacy sort of way, but just two important conflicts i have written about. there are no pictures this time,...they do exist, but not in a quantity i want, nor have they been scanned.

In chronological order:
The War of the Golden Basinet (540-567 EL) (Years 540-567 of the Era of Elgari)
The Pilgrims War (120-121 3AOS) (Years 120-121 of the Third Age of the Era of Osiri)

To come soon: The War of the Three Stones (125-128 3AOS)

Spoiler! :
War for the Golden Basinet: The most destructive conflict in Arinalgar of the elder Era. (540-567 EL)

The conflict which was to shape the history of Arinalgar until the end of the first Era.
In year 540 of the second age of Elgari, the King of Avantar began to gaze across into Elgarn. He soon realised that they were aiming too high in terms of conquest; Elgarn was too big and too powerful. They could however, be thrown off balance if they were surrounded from both sides. The King instead looked across at Arinalgar. As he had not been to war with them before he did not know their strength. His mind was set and risk was to be taken.

In year 543, after conceiving their first child, the King of Avantar looked at his wife, who was considered to be the fairest in the land, and began to think. He had heard that the prince of Arinalgar was alone, and refused to marry anyone his father wanted. The way to bring down a potentially powerful country without great national loss was to take that country down from the inside. Against her will, the Queen of Avantar was escorted into Arinalgar, posing as a foreign traveller looking for work in the capital. With her arrival in Stormgate began the plans that became known as the Avantari Snare.

Over the next two years, the guised Queen worked in the royal palace as a seamstress to the Arinalgarin Queen. She got to know the royal family, but the servants’ faces were covered, so no one ever noticed her.

Mid year 544 she found herself making the Queen’s bed and crying as her life had become so miserable and she was angry with her husband, back in Avantar. The Prince of Arinalgar came looking for his mother and stumbled across the weeping woman. He tried to comfort her, but upon seeing the handsome prince she made a move on him, but he recoiled. It was only upon her removing her guise that she revealed her beauty. From that moment the prince was attracted to her, and she seduced him.

She let it slip to her overseers that she had slept with the prince and they in turn sent a message to their King. The king was pleased with his wife’s success, but he soon learnt that the prince had gotten his wife pregnant and his anger blew out of proportion.

Back in Stormgate, the prince revealed his love to the servant, and although his father was angry that it was not someone more higher in class, his mother talked him into acceptance. The servant Queen had given up on her husband, and although she never got to mother the child, she knew that her life would never be the same again.

A week or so later, the prince was married to his love, and she soon after revealed to him that she was pregnant, much to his surprise and delight. He did not know of her past.

Learning of their marriage, her former husband readied his armies and began to march across the lands to retake her, or kill her, depending on his mood when he saw her.

In Year 545 the armies of Avantar were seen marching towards Stormgate through Elgarn. The King of Arinalgar did not know what they were doing in his lands, but readied his old castle’s defences. The new princess of Arinalgar, of whom her people had come to love for her once being a servant on their level, stood petrified, seeing the armies from her and her prince’s chamber.

Soon after, the armies of Avantar were in full battle with Arinalgar. Their military skills were much greater than the Elgarnian ones, and they managed to breach the high causeway walls. The King of Avantar was escorted to the castle’s sewers where they climbed up into the palatial halls, empty. They managed to reach the Princess’ chamber where the King caught her and the prince attempting to flee. He recognised her even though she was days away from giving birth, and made it clear he knew who she was, but she was pulled away quick enough to escape.

The king of Arinalgar was then killed by the men of Avantar, and his armies ran wild throughout the capital.

The prince rode away on a horse, with a cart behind carrying his heavily pregnant wife. Royal riders soon caught up with them and escorted them to the newly completed Fort Agar in the mountains where they were welcomed with hesitance, as there was the risk they would bring war with them. They settled in and a week later, the princess gave birth to the future king.

Luckily, the Fortress was hidden in the mountains, and the Avantari King who had taken the ‘Golden Basinet’ as it was known, soon forgot about his wife and found a new woman of who raised his young son.

Fort Agar became the new capital of Amar whilst Stormgate was occupied. Every person from the cities of Amar left their homes and travelled to the safety of the mountains where the future King was with wife and child. There, in the fortress they built their armies.

In year 562 the prince took his armies into the dell of Stormgate and took the king by surprise from the south where the castle was not so well defended as the other threat (the Barthorians) had never really travelled that far eastward. The castle of Stormgate was retaken by the House of Amor. As he was crowned the King a month later with the Golden Basinet upon his head, his wife was made Queen of Arinalgar. Their son was now the heir.

It wasn’t until the year 567 that the King reminisced about the night the castle was taken, and he recalled the moment when the King seemed to recognise his former wife. The Queen had no way out of it, she was forced to tell the truth; that she was the former Queen of Avantar and she was sent to Stormgate to delude her now husband. Furious, the king disowned his wife and beat her where she stood. Their son watched helplessly as his mother fell weak by the bedside. Whilst the King returned to a banquet hall where he was entertaining guests, a spy from Barthor went searching for the King’s documents.

He came across the weeping Queen, laying where she had met her husband upon he King and Queen’s bed years ago. He was taken by her beauty and seduced her in her weakness. Her son, who was much closer to his father as he was aggressive like his father where his mother was more gentle and peaceful, saw the affair. He went to tell his father. The man of Barthor told the Queen that if the King found out she would be executed. She was loyal to her king however and the King did find out. The Queen however, said that the man of Barthor forced himself upon her and given the ancient rivalry with the other Realm, the King accepted it.

He then declared war on Barthor, who had stayed out of the matter of the Avantari national control, and a month later he took his massive army far west and ransacked very town until they met the bulk of Barthor’s armies. They were far superior and far better trained ad managed to push the Amarians back to their capital, where upon Stormgate Hill the King of Amar and the King of Barthor duelled eachother until they were both slain at once. The Queen, who had seen the men of her Realm fall and her husband die, had had enough. She took the Golden Basinet to The Wake (the lake shared between Arinalgar, Areddun and Umria) before she could be made the official ruler of the country and threw the crown into the water, thus ending the War of the Golden Basinet.

She turned down the throne and waited until her son became King before she retired to the confines of the castle.

In the Year 576, plans are made for a new Castle of Stormgate. The Queen however, succumbed to grief and died before it was completed in year 583, marking a new time of greatness for Amar. In the wake of the war with Barthor, a 271 year conflict had been awoken between the two Realms.

Spoiler! :
The Pilgrims War (120-121 3AOS)

In the 120th year of the Third Age of Osiri when Alornia was the capital, an ancient power had begun to rise in the east. The High King had heard that the lands of Elgarn were awakening. It had been 1882 years since Elgarn had last been in battle with Arinalgar, back in the Elgari Era.

Up until now the lands of Alornia had never been more peaceful or green. The rival Realm of Arzuria in the north was diminished and suffering from poverty. There was no threat from the weakened country of Nyshuhr since the sun child, Princess Sahfire had died.

The last days of the old Alornian House were coming to an end. The King (named Evanor) was aged and had not left his castle for many years. He did however; take to sleeping with his sword ‘Barthborn’ (so named as it was forged in the old lands of Barthor) His wife, the Queen had to perform all his royal duties, visit the towns of the Realm, take counsel with Erivania, send money to Arzuria so that it can survive and above all, rule Arinalgar in her weak husband’s stead. His mind was going and he struggled to remember who his wife was.

Over the time that this had happened, the people had loved her as a strong woman, a role model and above all, a national icon of patriotism. Her son, the Prince who by now as 22 years of age, was becoming quite the keen young soldier and had risen in the ranks. In the wastes of Amar, where the old civilization had dwelled, various and numerous camps had been established amidst the ruins of the old cities of time.

These were the pilgrims of Elgarn, people who had left the country in search of new life. Since the lands to the east of Arinalgar had remained unused for nearly two thousand years they thought it was alright to settle there. They had been fighting many years with their own king to be able to leave the country as they wanted to keep to themselves for when the time was right. The Elgarnian king then realised that he could use their presence in the neighbouring country to his advantage and allowed them to go. For years he had been falling in opinion of his people and needed to do something to win their hearts. What better to get a nation going than a grand war? But a war would have to be won, and spoils would have to be gained. Seen as the powers of Arinalgar were unheard of, they seemed weak to foreigners.

Once the presence in the waste of Amar was large enough, action would be taken, but until then, all would be quiet.

The Prince of Alornia meanwhile, Adanor was his name, was taking on his royal duties after he had finished his training in the army. His mother had begun to urge him to begin finding a woman to marry, but unusually for monarchs, she said she didn’t mind who they were, as long as they loved her.

(The Sorting of the Throne)

A great jousting tournament was held to find a man worthy enough to take the hand of his two sisters, who were older, but were not in line to take the throne (so was the way of ascension back then, male heirs had priority, though this would be the last time it was to happen)

A great knight was made victor and took the hand of the older daughter. He was the noblest warrior in the land and was draped in a blood red tabard. He was then brought to the Realm’s council of Justice (previously the council of war) and made a high ranking member to impose a new control over crimes, particularly in the capital. His name was Sir Harvon Eranor. He presented his love with a necklace made of dark stone and gold chain, and it hung heavily around her neck. It was so named Amargon, for the passed days of Amar from where the stone had come.

For the second daughter of the king, a great event was held to find her her champion. She sat upon a throne and had men come forwards and try to impress her. it was a light hearted day, and even the Queen found some of the contenders humourous. In the end, her love was chosen not by muscle or strength, but by charm and reason. After so many had tried to impress her, Master Hildor Varkan of Athanor succeeded. He presented the princess with a gift; a turquoise green necklace with a bronze chain. It was called Wakencall for the stone had come from the shores of the wake to the south.

He proved his worth in politics and was given a place in the Court of Lords to address the country’s political situations and issues.

It was now left to the Prince to find a future Queen, but he instead chose to go away and travel for a bit to know the lands he’d one day rule. His mother understood, and ended up agreeing that it was the right thing to do. Adanor however, had different intentions. He was off to seek love elsewhere, and he intended not to return to the capital. He was never really heard by anyone, always forced into the royal lifestyle he was. He chose to live in exile without permission or anyone even knowing, and he disguised himself in the clothing of the commoner to travel, just so he could speak with people without them knowing who he was. He knew that many men wanted to marry his sisters just for their position in the hierarchy, and he felt that was not true compassion.

After a few months Adanor found himself wondering the woods of Erivania. he had always been curious as to what lay beyond the Amarantines (mountains between Amar and Erivania) and stayed in the small town of Irianar in the tree covered foothills. One night however, he was awoken by the sound of screaming outside and ran to see what was the cause. The gates of Amar had been opened and a strange smell came from the wastelands than were now a very short distance walk away. The wastelands in the east were not supposed to be disturbed, as they were sacred grounds of the past. People of purple cloth and fair hair came running into the trees. They begged for help, and upon Adanor asking one woman what was happening, she told him that Elgarn was attacking. He stood guard by her and drew his sword to kill all that came at him. Eventually, with the help of the Erivanian men, the party of Elgarnians was defeated.

The woman introduced herself as Lilighan Osongar, a Ghorlian pilgrim of Elgarn. She explained that she and many others had taken refuge in the wastelands. The Elgarnian King and sent soldiers to watch over the settlements, but was using them to force the pilgrims to fight, and they ran when they refused as they were to be killed for treachery. One thing was clear, a great war was on the way.

As much as Adanor wanted to keep travelling, he felt he had to return to his mother and tell her what was happening. He took Lilighan by horseback back through the trees and upon a ride that took many days until finally the white stone of Alornia was seen again.

He came into the city unrecognised as he had grown a bear and had longer hair since he left. His mother however, recognised him instantly, and presumed Lilighan was a woman he had found and loved. They both denied any feelings they had for one another, but soon enough explained what was happening. The armies of Alornia were mustered, and the Court of War was revived with the members of the Court of Justice staying (only if they wanted what was best for the Realm, unsurprisingly, none left)

Meanwhile, thousands of pilgrims were being forced to take up spears and swords and rallied for war. Word had gotten out that an Elgarnian woman was in Alornitan, the capital city of Alornia, and the King of Alornia was annoyed. Through a long journey in the shadows he sent his best shademen (Silent warriors who carry out the wishes of their payer) Lilighan was taken in her sleep as she slept in the spare room opposite Adanor. When the morning came, the Prince, and Queen were worried beyond belief. In the evening before however, before the sun went down, Adanor had given the woman a necklace made from purple stone, named Ghormount (named for the pendant being mounted upon the Ghorlian woman.

Now three such items existed; Amargon, Wakencall and Ghormount. These were the three stones that would one day cause a war, for which would be fought for the lives of the three most powerful women in the country of Arinalgar. (but that comes later)

In the waste of Amar, the armies of Elgarn had arrived and were forcing the pilgrims west to the gates of Amar. Lilighan was dressed in rags and pulled along in rope bindings to show what happened to traitors, but many of the Ghorlians sympathised for her. The Queen of Arinalgar gave her son permission to go and search for her, and to take his armies to go and wipe out the threat that Elgarn imposed.

The pilgrims were amongst the first to arrive at the field of battle. They were unmotivated, unwilling and unyielding, they felt that either side they chose would lead to their death. The people of Erivania however, had been told of the enemies in their lands and hid in the shadows of the trees. They ambushed the pilgrims and allowed them time to escape, apart from Lilighan who was kept close to the commander who rode a chariot into battle.

The pilgrims were given the opportunity to hide behind the Alornian soldiers, but instead chose to fight, and many died. Adanor charged through the enemy with a group of his own men, giving him shield cover as he went.

He saw the commander coming towards him and drew his sword, and as he passed he sliced the ropes holding Lilighan and caught her as she fell. She was given a sword by one of the Alornians and she viciously followed her Prince into battle and stood as a leader for the Ghorlian people. The Erivanians saw the last Elgarnians flee back across the waste where many fell into the rivers, rivers where many dead people lay, and had done for hundreds of years.

The Ghorlians were welcomed as people of Arinalgar for their service and sacrifice. They were allowed to settle in Erivania and had done ever since.

Lilighan was married to Adanor, and soonafter his mother died, within a month of his father’s death. It was up to him and his sisters to rule the country, but more importantly for Lilighan to stand as a faithful and noble Queen next to her husband, just as his mother had done. It is fair to say she did not disappoint.

Elgarn was defeated, but a new power was arising, at a time where Queens and Princesses were gaining a better reputation as leaders and rulers, they became coveted by many. A war would soon come, a war for the three stones: Amargon, Wakencall and Ghormount. (War of the Three Stones 125-128 3AOS)

In the years that followed, Lilighan and Adanor’s son went to be with the other Ghorlians in Erivania and his blood line ruled there until the end of the 5th Age when the era of Osiri ended. They also had another son, who continued the strong line of people in Alornia, right until they were killed off in the 4th age of Osiri.

EDIT: So here are a couple of pictures, i had to take these on my phone, because my printer is awkward and tells me i need ink to scan...and with today's prices, i'm not getting ink any time soon.

Going a bit more in depth now with this background. as well as the history behind two of the darkest wars ever fought, i have now dealt with the religious sides of Adaryth (new world name) well, the religions of four countries.

Three of the lands; Arzutare, Calamiha and Nyshuhr believe in life beyond death. they believe that there exists there lands called the 'Netherworlds' where they go when they die. they are not like normal 'heavens' and such as wars happen there too, (i'll excplain why in a moment) it is said that even grand cities can be sent to the Realms of the Netherworlds. one such man back in another age said that he was taken to the Netherworlds and was abruptly brought back to Adaryth. He then drew a map and desribed it as such;

'There exists there two great lands, the northernmost shaped like a lily, and the other a tooth, connected by a mountain wall where a stone wall lays upon it. what seems odd is that the northern lands are called 'Westerlands' and the south 'Easterlands' as i too found this confusing, i met a guide there and they explained. they said that the Westerlands are where the children of Nyshuhr go to die, where their god Atharniak is said to exist. the Arzutarians in the Easterlands worship their six gods 'the Greats' (hence the divide) I have been told that timeless battles have been fought there, and there ever exists a war, never ending as no one there can die. This has led to the Netherlands being corrupt. The gods i hear are only heard and not seen, but i was not there long enough to find out. i did however lay eyes upon a city i thought dead, Stormgate! there before my eyes the city that stood in ruins east of Arzutare is tall over the green lands. as i am shown a map i see that there is a jagged edge on the western face of the lands, and they are called the 'Shreads of Southlands' this is where the deities and people of Calamiha came to live, but since that religion died, the lands were sunk into what is known as 'the timeless sea' that goes nowhere, as soon as the coast of either side is behind, the coast of the opposite is before them.
As the light now takes me, i see the last sight of Eastgate where the people of Arzutare arrive from time, but i soon awake in a field surrounded by the dead, but i never saw any of them there'

Up until Emperor Rhandyr in the second age displayed the ferocity of the sun children, the sun children were called 'the Guardians of the Netherworlds', but no more. The Osiriniaks were thought by the Lords of Argar to be the only piece they could capture of the deadlands. When Nyshuhr began to burn in the third age, many lost faith in Atharniak when he did not vanquish the Argarians, and because the Arzutarian gods began to triumph over Atharniak in the never ending battle, Atharniak became weaker until Nyshuhr eventually fell in the fourth age. (or so they say)

It is said that the gods get their strength from those who believe in them, and so when people lose faith, the gods lose strength.

So really, only Arzutare still allows people into the Easterlands in the south. the people of Nyshuhr still exist in their lands, but none have arrived in over five hundred years.

The other religion of course is that of the Uhrians, who believe they will prosper as long as their goddess (Enighuir) who hails the sun, allows the sun to shine. she allegedly controls the growth of all vegetation and seems that foreign invaders die in the heat. Of course, Enighuir was no goddess, she was a real woman, who lead her tribe to the mountains after a long war. she founded a city and became Queen. it was only when a foreign army tried to invade that she cried out for the sun to perish them, and to her disbelief it happened. she then managed to lead her people throguh the deserts without them dying, and she wanted the stone that fell from the sky (that gave Atharniak, who was also real, his power) her attempts went in vain, but she managed to keep Atharniak from burning her lands as she walked through his fire and ordered that he leave. her acts condemned her as a goddess, and so the story lived on.

this one need a little tweaking yet.

***

So onto the wars. As i mentioned before, the Pilgrims War ended the war of the Three Stones began, which was later than i previously said.

The second war is a brief outline of the events of the current novel 'The Sun Children V' where some parts a little inaccurate and i can't be bothered to change them yet, but i know where the inaccuracies lie, but you don't need to know those for now. i have left it incomplete so it doesn't spoil the ending for you.

War of The Three Stones

Spoiler! :
War of the Three Stones (152-155 3AOS)

The conflict which can lay its roots to the presenting of the three pendants of the three princess’ of Alornia can also find blame in the Arzurians in the north.

It was said that the stones that were given to the princess’ were crafted by the gods for they were of unnatural beauty. It then seemed that these stones also granted power to those who wore them of course though, by this period in history, women were being recognised for their courage)

Arzuria were heavily associated with the gods, yet they wondered not why they were pitied and were fored to live in poverty. Many thought it was punishment for their violent past and their monarch’s ancestor’s attempts at usurping the throne. To make up for his family’s past, the King of Arzuria, Engalorn, said that he would wage war with Alornia in an attempt to prize the royals there of their stones. By now, Queen Lilighan was in her early fifties, and the King’s older sisters had gone their separate ways, one of which was losing her mind in a small abbey located in the western slopes of the Arzornian mountains. She was the first target.

Engalorn sent his armies through the Pass of Barthor and up to the old walls of Alornia (Lorin’s Watch) there the first battle took place. (Battle of Lorin’s Watch 152 3AOS) Engalorn triumphed over the poor armies of Athanor who were left to defend the wall in the sudden and unexpected attack. Message did not reach Alornitan in time, and so the King could not do anything about it. Adanor was becoming a lot like his mother, as Lilighan grew weaker he spent most of his later life by his wife’s bedside. It was his second son, Norana who told him of Arzuria’s attack, and the King said nothing. Norana declared that he was going to take the men of the capital to Lorin’s watch or wherever Engalorn was and quell his threats.

He also sent message to his brother, Loran, King of Erivania, and called for aid. Loran was currently holding back the men of the mountain from sweeping into his lands and was having a wall built into the southern slopes of the Arzornian mountains. He said that he was unable to come to his brother’s call as he had his own people to worry about, as Kornia grew in power, so did their number of attacks.

Eventually Norana’s men reached Lorin’s Watch and made battle with the men of Arzuria, and they had defeated them, but by then it was too late. The abbey in the mountains was aflame and within its falling rubble lay Donaria, Adanor’s sister. Her stone had been taken. Engalor was given the pendant and pulled it from its chain. He placed it in a crown that he had where three slots were made for the three stones. (Crown of Arnur, the one which was worn all the way up until King Kanar was killed wearing it – 2 5AOS)

The next stone lay with the second sister who took sanctuary in Prongor, the northern most city in Alornia, but the city of the great lighthouse of the Third Age of Osiri. It was said that her stone lit up the beacon in the tower and with the light of the gods it shone across the water and kept the Bay of Arnur safe.

It was then a race between Engalor’s second army and Norana’s tired men to reach the city. Whilst Norana reached Prongor by land and made sure its walls were protected, Engalor sent his men from his coastal fortress of Arsurna (later Arzuritan) by ship, and they battered the coastal walls of the city when they arrived. They were careful not to hit the lighthouse, as they did not want to anger the light of the gods. (The Battle of the Western Light 153 3AOS)

The Arzurians did manage to breach the walls and climb up into the city, and Norana had his aunt’s room guarded with an entire unit of soldiers. The trouble was however, the King’s sister was not wanted alive. The Alornians did manage to victor of the Arzurians, but when the guards opened the doors to the King’s sister’s room, her throat had been cut and curtains flew from her window. Someone with knowledge of the castle knew a secret entrance into the chamber and killed the King’s sister and took her stone. They only just managed to flee back across the fields of Alornia away from the burning city. When news spread that the stone was gone, the flame of the lighthouse was dowsed, never to be lit again. Norana’s anger went out of control and he sent a strongly worded letter to his brother, of who was staying out of war.

Engalor placed the stone in his crown and planned to take the third. Lilighan was taken far away from Alornitan and took refuge in the forests of Gar Bala, where strange folk lived. They were knights of an ancient order, who still worshipped the House of Barthor from the Elgari Era. They told her that she was safe with them, though they weren’t exactly truthful to the foreign Queen.

The forest led along the slopes of the Great Eastern Mountains that bordered Thorynwor, and it was upon the fields within sight of Eldergate that the armies of Norana and Engalor finally met. Runs of the old Barthorian world were all around them in the northern Region of Alornia.

Engalor’s third army, as well as the remainder of the second, were far greater than Norana’s remaining men. Reinforcements arrived from the capital ad Eladora, but they were still not enough to win. (Battle of the Old Forest 155 3AOS)

Finally, as horns blew across the plains, the banners of the Ghorlian and Erivanian people were seen and Loran came heavily into battle as Engalor and Norana clashed.
Loran saw to the demise of the Arzurian armies, but saw his brother and his enemy fighting amidst the fields before the forest where his mother was hiding.

Eventually Norana overcame Engalor’s might, but as his crown fell, he saw that he had a third stone in place. With a cry of anger he sliced off Engalor’s head and threw it across the battle. The stone however, was a fake, and what seemed like a taunting strategy on Engalor’s part, actually was one of the main reasons he was killed.

Loran and Norana went to the old forest and spoke with the knights, but they said they were not letting their mother go. Lilighan was covered in blood, and weary of days of unrest. It was then up to the two brothers to kill the last men of Barthor and take their mother back to King. Adanor cared for his wife until they died the following year, side by side.

As their funeral cast great sadness over Alornia, Prince Norana became King, and vowed that his mother’s stone would never see the light of day again, but stay with her in the crypt until the gods choose otherwise.
Meanwhile, the Crown of Arnur was taken back to Anvar, the capital of Arzuria, and given to Engalor’s son, who vowed upon his coronation, to retrieve the last stone.

Norana too vowed to take back the stones of his aunt’s, but he never saw it happen. His son was the one who eventually carried out the conquest. (War of the Heirs 177-178 3AOS)

War of the Dying Sun
Spoiler! :
War of the Dying Sun. (18-22 5AOS) (The story of TheSunChildrenV)

The time line of this war is so vast, that it can only be fully understood in brief, otherwise the immensity of the situation and the goings-on becomes too vast.

This is the largest war that has ever taken place across all three Eras. It began in the eighteenth year of the Fifth Age of Osiri and ended in a shroud of flames. This was also the last war in which a sun child would fight.

(The Princess’ Crown)
What began as an attempt to escape the oppression of the High Lord Larinian turned out to be a grave move which ended in an outbreak of war. The sun child, Ember, had been living in hiding for seventeen years, and after learning that the army was responsible for all her, and her family’s strife, her sister went out seeking answers.

After threatening a soldier to help her family escape, she was sentenced to a disciplinary at the Court of Koren. There she met fellow soldiers who had been sentenced likewise and it became apparent that many hated the High Lord and actually sought the sun child to help them, but to them it was a forlorn hope. It was not long however, that a plan to escape had been made and the brigands of the army broke free, freeing the sun child and leaving the capital of Arzuria in chaos after the High Lord tore it up trying to find Ember, who was his greatest bane.

Arzuria was now on a conquest to find the Sun Child, but their return had spurred the interest of the Lords of Argar, who had secretly held control over the country of Arzutare (once Arinalgar). The Lord in Arzutare told Larinian that he must also regain control of the lands by taking the other Realms and reinstalling order. Larinian then looked to Arzuria’s old allies; the Kornians to held retake Alornia and Erivania.

The Lord of Argar however had already manipulated the Lord of Kornia. He had told them likewise to attack the other Realms, Arzuria included. After centuries of being the puppet of Arzuria, Kornia thought it was time to break free.

The Lord of Argar did not want Aruztare under his control, he merely set the two largest powers against one another to cause a civil war which would blind the Lords of the country to the sun child’s movements. Whilst they were distracted, the armies of Argar were being sent to Arzutare in secret.

Argar had never been to war with Arzutare, but they had been to war with the Nyshuhrians who had travelled from the country in the first age.

The King of Argar, who controlled the five Lords, heard of the sun child, and presumed that they were going south to Calamiha, where the last sun child ruled (so that she could take up the throne and fight back)

After the Ember and her sister found themselves lost with the Prince of Erivania they made their way to the capital of Erivania, whilst the others continued on their path to Alornia. Eventually, by chance, Ember and the others were reunited and realised that Alornia was no longer safer since Larinian had begun to attack, also the Kornians were on their way. The Erivanian Prince, and his two older brothers, took the sun child and the party south to Danalavonia (the scene of the last war that had taken place, The Twin Wars of Arzumiha - 1-2 5AOS)

Larinian was in persuit, following his original plan now that Alornia had been conquered. Kornia had now attacked Arzuria and thus the tables were turning. In full civil war, one Realm attacked its neighbour, and the neighbour attacked the Realm next to them and so on. Eventually the fleeing party had reached the border, and amidst a great battle they did indeed escape into Calamiha (The Third War of Arzumiha - 17 5AOS)

(The Queen’s Pendant)
The sun child and the others began to travel south into Calamiha, into the northernmost Province of Byhan.

Through crossing into the Province of Riha the companions found them selves amidst a war that was already happening, and they were split again, this time Ember, her sister and two others went a different way from the others. It appeared that a large uprising had occurred in Riha, infiltrators had gathered, minions of Arzuria they were.

The armies of Erivania helped the provincial armies of Riha to get rid of the threat whilst the sun child continued south.

Eventually she reached Mihanari and was met with surprised people, but not aggrieved of scared. They were warm in welcome as their greatest ever leader was indeed the last sun child. A week after the others finally arrived and they finally took counsel with the King. They told him to expect a war, as they were hunting the sun child, and he must have been the only one reluctant to greet her as, like Larinian, he feared she would usurp.

Eventually he heeded the warning and readied his armies, summoning the other provinces to come to their defence, but only three came to Miha’s call. Byhan refused, they had seen too much war on the border in recent years. It was decided that to raise moral and the mood, a ball would be held.

The royal ball was held a few nights later, and amidst the joy that it brought, it was taken down by catapult fire from a distant fleet. Argar had arrived in the south. The fighting continued through the night, now three armies of three countries. (The Battle of Mihanari – 18 5AOS)

Arzuria attacked side by side with Kornia in the north, bringing down the northern walls of the capital. They were met by the four present Provincial armies, along with the Erivanians. All across the city war broke out, and Ember struggled to keep up the front, but then she was reminded that Argar was in the south. The battle quickly escalated, but Ember was forced to nearly kill herself in order to gain victory, using her fire to vanquish the Argarian forces whilst the other armies luckily managed to defeat Arzuria and Kornia after the Byhan armies finally agreed to defend their country.

Her sister was taken by one ship that managed to escape Ember’s wrath, and she was taken back to Argar.

After the battle, the King abdicated and in a scroll that he had written, he decreed that Ember was to become Queen. She was without support of her sister when she sat upon the throne and the crown of Sahfire lowered onto her head. In her coronation speech, she mentioned that she intended to avenge those that were killed by Argar, and to bring back her sister, to which she was met with a loud applause.

A survivor of the battle explained that Argar was planning to invade the east again in another attack, but they were months away from mobilising. Ember took this as an opportunity to order a massive naval fleet to be constructed to invade and deter and distract Argar from moving.

(The Prince’s Stone)
Following her coronation, Ember was secretly married to the Prince of Erivania, after she had spent months training in combat in the grounds of the palace. Shortly after she went to review the rising naval fleet which was to be used to invade the scoured lands of old Nyshuhr.

Argar had not been defeated, even though the majority of their eastern armies had been killed in the battle of Mihanari. The rest of the eastern armies, and indeed the western armies were moving to attack.

Arzuria was slowly rebuilding its own armies, but they had no ambition to relaunch an attack in the south. In a huge fleet they left across the great seas, splitting in two and landing on he eastern and western shores of the old lands in the west.

Others were, in the same time sent to Arzutare to protect them whilst they were weak. A temporary Lord had been placed in charge of the lands after Larinian’s death. Likewise, the Sun Child’s father was left in charge of the capital.

They armies in Nyshuhr were met with resistance immediately on the shores. Ember was relentless in her attempts to clear the coast, and her fire saw to such desires. She met another Lord of Argar in the ruins of the old Nyshuhrian capital (Battle of Tavral)
Ember took her armies north from the capital to the border of Argar. The King took his armies to Rhushar to rid the Argarians of their home in the ruins.

Meanwhile in the southern lands of Uhrasha (the southernmost Realm of old Nyshuhr) the Uhrians who now inhabited it were attacked by a large army of Argar which had managed to evade both the King’s and Queen’s armies. A great bout of fire killed the army, but it was not Ember’s fire, but Sharla’s (Ember’s sister)

(She had not been taken to Argar, but taken by the Uhrians from the nearby headquarters of the Arharian oppupation of the old lands. They had heard that the sun child’s sister had been captured and that she was to be taken to the King of Argar and so they rescued her. Luckily enough, the Uhrians were in possession of an Osiriniak, the golden stone. They once held allegiance with the sun child’s family as they worshipped a goddess of the sun, whom they now believed, was indeed the sun child after all. Sharla touched the unused Osiriniak and hence became a fully realised sun child like her sister)

The King has re-established control in the Realm of Rhunahr, Sharla was taking her Uhrian armies to north to meet with her old friends. Ember was soon in Argar, and she could see the capital, but she was knocked out and dragged along. Her armies were killed and she was almost dead herself by the time she managed to escape, falling into a river to probably die. Argar’s armies were mobilising in the east and west and they were beginning to board ships in a quest to attack Thorynwor (it was their plan to attack so that they could control a country close to Calamiha where they believed the Osiriniaks were being held)

By now the countries; Calamiha, Arzutare, Uhria and Argar were all involved in the last great war.

(The King’s Sword)
The great armies of Argar are mid voyage towards Thorynwor where they plan to take control. Another large portion of their forces clash in the city of Rhushar with the King’s soldiers. Sharla then arrives with the Urians and the battle is won. (Battle of Argar, so named as it as the last war Argar would fight on land it controlled)

This is as far as I will tell with The War of the Dying Sun. how it sends will remain a secret until the time is right. The revelation of its conclusion is the onset of the Fourth Era.
