I have a character I like, but I'm not sure how his name should be pronounced. It's Elan, accent on the E. I thought, maybe "Ay-lan?" Or "Eh-lan?" (but that last sounds like "Ellen," and it's a male character.)

Ah-lan. "Ah", as in, breathe out, and "lan", like "lawn".

Which way does the accent go?

Bottom-left to top-right would be Ay-lan. The other way round would be Eh-lan.

I would pronounce it "Eh-Lan", but I don't think that would be grammatically correct (many names aren't).
I refuse to acknowledge the existence of this signature.

I think when s/he says accent they mean that is the stress, right? ay/eh-lan. Like "land" without the D. To me "ay' and "eh" sound almost the same except the first, of course, is harder.

When I first read it I pronounced it like Ee-lahn.
It does not do to dwell on dreams and forget to live.
