hello everyone. annother one of Otaku's stupid questions. this time around, i am wondering about how many drafts do you guys go through before you publish it here.

heres the format:

something>something>something>something>publish

here is mine:

write in notebook>type it>print it and edit it>publish

I usually look over my story twice before putting it up on this site. Then again, I'm pretty good at catching little errors and grammar mistakes. I guess it depends on how good you feel about your ability to catch your own mistakes. If you feel like your draft needs a lot of work, then it'd probably be best to look over a good number of times before posting it, so people reviewing can look more at your story and style and not have to focus on spelling and grammar.

Hmm... pretty much look over your work until YOU feel its ready for the site. :D
How am I not myself?

I plan to revise my novel after I complete the first draft, and I plan to read over each individual chapter and edit little mistakes until it flows and, as far as I can see, is completely flawless.

Then I'll post it here for the final revision.

But I have a plan...I will stop posting when I reach the climax!

See, then, everybody who read it has to buy the book! MWAHAHAHAHA!!!!111one

I write one draft and that's it. I get stuck a lot with my stories so there's never a point to write a second draft because I rarely come back to it. :)

Me too, Always.

I rarely ever do more than one draft. I feel that it loses my original voice that was so good. And I would just edit it and look through it a couple times before posting it on YWS.

So, to follow your formula...

write on computer >> edit >> edit again >> post it on YWS.

Yep. That pretty much sums up how I write.

Just write -- the rest of life will follow.

Would love help on this.

Oh, here's the little flow thingy...

1. Write 1st draft
2. Edit 1st chapter
3. Look over again
4. Edit
5. Repeat until no mistakes are found
6. Repeat steps 2-5 with all chapters
7. Post on YWS
8. Edit accordingly
9. Pray that the publisher will like it

It looks something like this for short stories:

Write > Read > Edit > Have Somebody Else Read > Edit > Read > Edit > Edit > Print > Edit For Stupid Typos > Print Again > Finish

For my novels, it's more like this:

Rough Draft (Handwritten) > Type Draft One (Edited Rough Draft) > Read > Draft Two > Read Out Loud > Draft Three > Find Scene I Hate > Rewrite > Draft Four > Random Research > Draft Five

Et cetera. A lot goes in between. And I edit earlier chapters before I even get to finishing later ones.

Um, I haven't posted one up here yet, but before I let certain people read it, mine goes:

Daydream >Mutter to myself and discover astounding dialogue > Tape record ramblings > Type up > Self-edit > self-edit > let someone I don't really care about read it > edit based on feedback > self-edit > submit.

I edit all of my novels... a lot

This is my process

Get something from a daydream- write random words in a notebook- get characters/plot (they feed off of one another) - develop it in my mind for quite a long time/work kinks out in my mind - start typing

When the first draft is done I read it, then I edit it (sometimes a couple times), then I get someone with a good taste in books to read it, then I edit again.

Basically I edit until I'm satisfied. Then I get bored and go onto something new.
