I want to see somebody do something with Steampunk ala Bioshock that breaks it out of its current stagnation. It all seems plainly aesthetic, but I think its got huge potential as a mainstream story genre - at least, I'd love to see it done.

I love Steampunk! I never quite understood why it never really took off. Especially with amazing movies like Hugo around.

Scott Westerfeld's Leviathan trilogy's probably the best example of steampunk I've seen - it goes A LONG way past the usual gears and automatons. As a genre I adore the idea, however I think it's difficult to do right, so I don't know if it'll take off.

I don't know what'll be next. I look forward to being surprised :-)

Well games are starting to dip into sci-fi, writing might as well

I think zombies were pretty big in 2013 too! With the big WWZ craze, my local bookshop (which only stocks the modern crazes, unfortunately) was filled with 'em!

I'd love to see more literary horror (akin to Steven King) around. Something along the lines of Carrie or Firestarter would be right up my ally.

I really hope this is the era of well developed villains too, something along the line of Diana or Penny from the Gone series. :D

I agree with HighTop, 2012 - 2013 seemed to be the years of the dead...

But now I'm really looking forward to some horror... and not just the stuff that's classified as "horror". I mean the kind of stories that make you want to climb in bed with your parents again. And maybe just a little bit more of those creepy stories that aren't really all that bad until you're walking home, alone, at night.

I think the world needs to take a break from sci-fi, romance, and all those cheezy books about the chosen one. That's my thoughts XD I just really want something new!
