This is a question that's been on my mind for some time. Why do you think so many pop artists yell their lyrics? Is it just what's expected, or do they actually not know the proper volume to sing at? Take this video for example- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wDnueYjlOGM

Especially annoying is when an artist belts out what should be a slow, quiet song.

They are popping, and it is a painful process. Hence their yells.

Not sure if I'd call that song you linked to pop.

At any rate, vocal range is a good thing, and it's up to the artist to decide how they should sing the song. In the linked song, the singer is quiet until about two thirds in, and then picks up volume along with the music.I think she does a good job of pitching her voice in line with the music.
I wrote the above just for you.
