I. Introduction

2013 was a big year for YWS. In the most important way, it was our best ever since every single work got at least two reviews -- the first time this has happened.

Activity wise, there were a lot of ups and downs as there are every year. But the year ended on a high note with December posting record reviews, visits, and pageviews for the year.

This was also a year marked by a large number of big events. In February you had the first ever YWS'tival, an idea penned by @SparkToFlame. In July, we had Christmas in July. In November, there was the birthday week during which we ran the second YWS'tival (started by @SparkToFlame), and we finished the year off with the Reviewing World Cup.

There were other user-led initiatives as well, most notably Knights of the Green Room (started by @Hannah) and Squills (started by @Griffinkeeper). Both have gone on to become major parts of YWS.

Of course, that's hardly all that happened. There was the tagging game, blog quizzes, mention wars, and wall spamming conflicts. There was the two-day period where a couple classes took over YWS and treated us to treatises about technology, and there was the brief re-emergence of FRED, whose foray into the glamorous but emotionally vacuous world of server modelling has not gone as well as he hoped.

And that even just barely scratches the surface. So in an attempt to better understand 2013, here is the YWS in 2013 Super Stats Post!

A couple more quick notes:
- Although it's hard to tell from the graphs above, December was by far the busiest month in terms of visits, and was also the biggest in terms of pageviews.

- Overall, visits were up by 43% versus 2012, and pageviews were up by 48%.

Curious. Do the spikes in literary works come before or after review day?

Do we know what that jump in new members was?
We were born to be amazing.

Yep! The spikes in literary works come before the Review Days, and the big huge spike was the Free Literary Work Day in May, which was the first time we started doing those (on a regular monthly basis that is). However, there's a double spike that happens in late September and early October, which ties into the jump in new members.

The jump in new members happened when a school temporarily used YWS as part of a homework assignment. The assignment was to post an article on YWS about either technology or being a teenager, and then comment on one another's works. So you had a jump in literary submissions and a jump in new members at the same time.

Indiana is number eight. Probably because I spend so much time on here and I got five friends to jump on. IT should rise this year!
