About reviewing scripts!

This is especially true for movies, but it also applies to theater, radio, any scripted format. I know a lot of us are used to writing and reading short stories in novels, which are a complete work of art. It is what it is. The difference with scripts is that they are blueprints. There's so much work that goes into a dramatic piece of art beyond just the script - acting, costumes, tech, direction, etc. It's not the writer's job to be very specific about anything about those sorts of things. In fact, it's recommended not to. So if certain details are threadbare, it's because the writer is focusing on telling the story through what the characters say and do (in other words, only what can be seen on screen) and leaving all of the other elements that might be missing to the interpretation of others involved. It can be a little jarring when you read your first script, but you get used to it in no time!

That being said, remember that scripts are still stories, just in a different form. While technicalities set them apart, the heart of a great script is the same as that of a great novel -- good character and story.

All our dreams can come true — if we have the courage to pursue them.
