Hello there, Renard. I will join in on this wonderful thread. I have a story that I am writing which I plan to add to the series I have been creating. I have three different ways this story could end. Buy I don't know which I like best.
There is a spontaneous splurge of ideas in my head that all seem to coordinate when pen hits paper and finger hits key.

Assignment 4

Concepts Into Words

New student, @ChipsMcCoy asked a poignant, well-debated question about the “right” way to write something.
I was wondering if you had any suggestions on how to turn ideas or concepts into poetry. The problem I have is that I have a clear idea for a poem but not sure how to exactly turn the idea into a poem.

Alright, so the first thing I should point out is that there is no right or wrong way to write something. The most important thing is that you maintain true to your own writing style.
This can be tricky – especially if you haven’t worked out what it is yet. Part of this problem will have been tapped into for @MasterGrieves with last week’s assignment (his poem was submitted for analysis.)
Once it’s actually pointed out to a writer the way in which they write, they may seek to change things. However, before you can make any alterations, you actually need to have something to write down. In the generation process of ideas you will eventually find one that grabs you. (For the purposes of this exercise, let’s assume that you don’t have the deadly “Writer’s Block.” So once you have your idea, you just have to write it.

Hmm. How difficult can that be? ;)

Very difficult as it turns out! Because it is easy to create something, but not necessarily something you will be happy with. In the case of Chips’ poetry you need to simply take an idea and write it in poetry form. There is a process of steps by which you can do this; and that is what this Assignment is all about!

The Task
1. Write down a simple idea for a poem. Eg. Greta goes to the shop to buy milk (just something realllly basic, to make it easier for yourself)
2. Next, write down the number of lines and stanzas you would want to aim for eg, 18 lines, 6 stanzas, 3 lines per stanza
3. Start writing! (I’m not going to make this seem like an overcomplicated process because it isn’t.)
NB: If you were to ask me how write Pulitzer Prize winning fiction or the next Sylvia Plath of poetry, then I can’t do that. The purpose of this task is for you to just think of ideas and write them down quickly. No analysis. Just. Write.
The main difficulty with this task is making a work you will be happy with, or feel like is some sort of literary genius.

The date this assignment was set: Thursday 3rd July 2014
The date this assignment is due is: Monday 7th July 2014

When you've completed the assignment either post it here in the thread... or you can send me a PM with the completed work.

If you need help during the process of this task then don't hesitate to contact me via the thread, PM, chat or any other form of communication; and I will do my best to help you.

Good luck.
