I remember reading the French translation of The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe when I was preparing for my French matriculation exam a few years ago! It really helped me to read a book I had read before in English
Also, if you have access to them and are a bit more advanced with your French, the Tintin comics might be a nice way to learn! I found them quite challenging, probably because of the spoken language (I assume) so for me it was better to stick to a familiar book.

I read Le Petit Prince and the translation of Harry Potter the summer before my Leaving Cert! But I don't know how advanced your French is - that was the most I could manage.
