It's been about 3 years since I read that, as a fairly new book. I don't remember the story line very well, but I remember that the MC had a special gift, and was recognized by her eye color. I remember there was also a male co-MC-- and I'm pretty sure that both were orphans.

Its a shorter story but is really gripping. I am a young author trying to promote my first Short fiction story. Please check it out I guarantee you wont be disappointed
