I'm setting up a group for people who believe in material forms of music with cover art. Vinyl, tape, cd ect... It's pretty anti-downloading.
Society for the Preservation of Music Materialsim

Basically I need to know what everyone thinks of as the most memorable album cover.

Probably Abbey Road. It's been everywhere. Smile

For me it's London Calling just because I think the picture of Paul Simonon smashing his bass is one of the coolest photographs ever - it always sticks in my mind.

Yeah, both London Calling and Abbey Road are fantastic album covers, but you have to add Nirvana's Nevermind to this list . . . I had more, but now I've forgotten them! I'll be back.

OH YEAH! The Velvet Underground and Nico's album with Andy Warhol's banana on the front of it. I love that album.

The most memorable album cover for me is the Pink Floyd one with the prism and the rainbow coming out the other side. I don't know what the album is called though...

I think for me the most memorable one is Abbey Road.

Dusky:: I think that one is called 'Dark Side of the Moon', and I am in total agreement. It's a completely amazing album cover, and therefore memorable. My brother has that as his MSN avatar! Razz

As for me, well I'll think of one later... nothing's jumping out at me right now.

3) Ten - Pearl Jam
4) Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Heart's Club Band - The Beatles
5) Revolver - The Beatles
6) Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness - The Smashing Pumpkins
7) Nevermind the Bollocks, Here's the Sex Pistols - Sex Pistols
8 ) Houses of the Holy - Led Zeppelin
9) Hotel California - Eagles
10) Some Girls - The Rolling Stones
11) Automatic for the People - R.E.M.
12) Crime of the Century - Supertramp
13) Sticky Fingers - The Rolling Stones
14) Who's Next - The Who
15) Goodbye Yellow Brick Road - Elton John
16) Let It Be - The Beatles
17) Back in Black - AC/DC
18 ) After the Gold Rush - Neil Young
19) Thriller - Michael Jackson
20) The Joshua Tree - U2
21) The Doors - The Doors
22) Blonde on Blonde - Bob Dylan
23) The White Album - The Beatles
24) Beggars Banquet - The Rolling Stones
25) Tommy - The Who
26) Daydream Nation - Sonic Youth
27) Rubber Soul - The Beatles
28 ) The Kids Are Alright - The Who
29) Faith - George Michael
30) Elvis Presley - Elvis Presley (the album where the Clash took their cover idea for 'London Calling' . . . seriously)

And that's it! For now . . .

Indeed, but a guy smashing his guitar is more iconic than simply a guy playing it happily ...

True. Both are memorable, but then who had more of an influence on music? I love the Clash, but Elvis Presley is no less of a god.
