In the beginning of 2010, we discussed a number of changes here in the Information Desk forum. One of these changes was to get rid of the Instructor and Greeter groups and move forward with badges. The primary reason for doing this is simply because making someone an Instructor lead to reviewing being seen as a job rather than as a hobby. As a result, dozens of users who may not have otherwise gone ended up leaving because they felt guilty for not reviewing.
So instead of Instructors and Greeters, YWS will now have badges. There are five badges, four of which you earn:
- Reviewer 1
- Reviewer 2
- Greeter
- Storybooker
Badges are earned based on the number of nominations a member receives. Once a member receives five nominations for any badge, that nomination is sent to Big Brother (the moderators group) for final approval. If approved, that member will receive the badge. This process of final approval is only meant to prevent the process from becoming a popularity contest.
To nominate someone, just go to the Nominations forum. You'll find it by going to the Community area and looking under the Information Desk. You can nominate anyone you wish except yourself. Be careful to note whether someone has received the badge already or not!
By the way, we (as in myself and Big Brother) could use help in keeping track of how many nominations someone has received. So if you see that someone has received 5 nominations, just leave a note in that forum letting us know!
That's pretty much it. If you have a question, please feel free to ask!
