Chapter five
I woke up to the sound of pitter-patter of rain on the roof. I rolled on to my stomach and looked at the clock. It was 5:30 in the morning. I groaned and got up. I turned on the radio to rid the silence. As I turned it on, the DJ started another song, Coldplay’s “Viva la Vida”. I hummed the tune.
“I used to rule the world,” I mumbled to myself as I got out of bed. I patted over to the closet and processed to pick out my outside for the day. My hips swayed to the music as I looked at the clothes. I raised my hands into the closet and pick a long sleeve white shirt and a purple corset like top. I set them on the chair next to the closet and then turned back to pick the pants. I stared at the pants for a while, unable to make up my mind on which pair should go with the tops. Finally I had made a decision on a pair of black, skinny jeans.
“For some reason I can’t explain. I know Saint Peter won’t call my name. Never an honest word. But that was when I ruled the world,” I mumbled as I twirled around. I walked over to my dresser and set out my eyeliner for the day. The radio DJ came on.
“That’s been Coldplay latest song, Vida la Viva. Coming up next will be Fully Alive by Flyleaf,” the radio DJ said as I pull out my underwear and bra. I set them with the clothes and then walked back over to my bed. I sat back down and stretched across the bed. I laid there as the first verse of the song played over the radio.
“Telling Layla's story spoken
'Bout how all her bones are broken
Hammers fall on all the pieces
Two months in the cover creases”
I tapped my foot to the beat. As I lay there, I thought about the day and how I would go about it. I remember that I had promised Adam something, but I was tore on how to do it. I wasn’t going to string along a human with feelings I couldn’t understand. And plus he is human, a helpless human. I rubbed my face, tired of thinking about it.
“Fully alive
More than most
Ready to smile and love life
Fully alive and she knows
How to believe in futures”
I looked at the clock again. 6:00 I thought as I heaved myself out of bed. I turned off the radio and walk over to my door and peeked into the hallway. It was empty and it was kind of creepy. I went into the empty corridor. I knocked on Ashton and Adelicia’s door, letting them know to get up and get ready. I returned to my room to do the same.
I stripped out of my nightclothes and set them on my bed. I put on my white, cotton underwear, and then I put on the other clothes. I tighten up the strings on the corset and then stare into the mirror.
On the contrary, we vampires could see own reflections in the mirrors. In fact, we were more like humans, except for the facts that we are: undead, drink blood, and have super human abilities like mind reading, telepathy, super-human speed and such. I was satisfied with my outfit. I walked over to my desk and sat down.
I looked into the standing mirror and put on my eyeliner, outlining my purple eyes. I brushed my hair then put it into a side ponytail. I added a white headband to it. I got up and grabbed my sling book bag. I left my room and as I pass Adelicia and Ashton’s door, I bang once more.
“Alright. Quit banging on the damn door,” Adelicia said from the other side. I smiled.
“Well, hurry up, because we still have to decide on who is driving today since we all have practice,” I said as I walked by the door. I walked down the stairs. When I reached the entranceway, I sat down my book bag, and then when to the practice room to get Ashton’s gear and mine for practice. I picked up the two heavy bags like they were nothing and brought them out to the entrance hall. I sat them down near my book bag as Ashton and Adelicia descended down the stairs.
“About time,” I scolded as they reached the bottom. Adelicia wore black jeans with a cream color shirt. Her hair was pulled back into a low ponytail.
“Well, sorry. This guy,” she pointed to Ashton, “kept distracting me with his touchy feely.”
“You weren’t shrugging me off,” he said with a grin. Ashton was dress in blues jean and a black shirt that once again stretched over his chest.
“Oh never mind,” I said, “So who is driving today and which car?”
“I don’t know,” Adelicia said. She looked at her mate. “do you want to drive?”
“I guess I can drive if you don’t want to, Elizabeth,” Ashton said as he looked at me.
“That’s fine. Now, what car are we taking?” I asked them.
“Deciding on a car I see,” Avery said as he descended down the stairs. We all nodded like little bobbed heads on a dashboard. “Why don’t you take the frontier?” he said as he glancing at the gear. “There’s a lot more room in the trunk than in the mustang or roaster.”
“You’re right,” Adelicia said, “let’s go with Avery’s decision.” Ashton and I just shrugged.
“Then its settle,” Avery said. I looked at him.
“Are you going to school, today?” I asked him. Avery went to college.
“Nah, I am going to stay home with Cali, just in case,” Avery said, using the nickname for Claiborne.
“I knew she was getting close, but not this close,” Adelicia said. Avery nodded.
“Well, get us a call if the baby does come,” I said as I picked up my stuff. I looked to Ashton and Adelicia and they nodded. I turned to Avery. “See you later.” We left the house and went to the garage. I unlocked the car, and put my stuff in the back. “Ashton, give me your stuff, so I can put it back here with mine,” I said to him. He give me his book bag and gear. I gave him the keys. I placed his stiff next to mine and then closed the back. I got into the backseat, so Adelicia could have shot-gun.
They climbed into the car after me. Ashton started the car and we rolled out of the garage.
“Who’s music are we going listen to on the way?” I asked from the back seat. We always got into a fight when we didn’t vote on the type of music.
“Well, I vote for something claming,” Adelicia said as she looked back at me, then she looked at Ashton. Ashton just shrugged.
“I don’t care really,” he said.
“Alright. Adelicia, play your music,” I said as I lean back into the seat. Adelicia found some radio station that played Mozart. We rode in to town. Ashton turned into the parking lot for the school and parking the car into a spot. We sat in the car for a while and watched the humans going by. After a couple of minutes, I looked at the clock and it said 7:00.
“I suppose we need to get going,” I said as I sat up and unbuckled my seatbelt. I got out of the car and open the back. I put on my backpack and grabbed my gear.
“I will see you to later. At lunch,” I said as I began to walk toward the building.
“Alright,” Adelicia said as she hugged Ashton and kiss him one last time before getting herself and walked towards the building. I walked into the building and took in the scent of humans.
Oh today is going to be a lovely day I thought as I walked to my first class.
*********************************************
By the time lunch came around, I was already exhausted for some odd reason. I got my lunch and then I went to the back to sit with Adelicia and Ashton.
“So how has your day been so far?” Adelicia asked as she looked at me. I sat down on the other of them. Ashton and Adelicia were sitting side by side.
“Pretty good so far. I’m just tired for some odd reason. Have you got a call from Avery yet?” I asked as I bit into a chicken ring.
“Nope, so I assume that everything is okay,” Ashton said as he took a bite into the pizza.
“Don’t look now, but here come your boyfriend,” Adelicia said as she pointed behind me. I looked behind and saw Adam walking up.
“Oh god,” I whispered as he stop behind me.
“Hey Elizabeth,” Adam said as he planted himself next to me, uninvited. “So, remember our deal that you were going to tell me about yourself today at school?”
“Yes, I remember. Let me introduce my siblings to you. This is Adelicia,” I pointed to her.
“Hi,” she said in cheery voice. I glared at her. She was getting a kick out of this.
“And that’s Ashton,” I said as I pointed to Ashton, who was currently ignore us. Adelicia elbowed him. He grunted a hello to Adam.
“We’ll see you, Elizabeth,” Adelicia said as she pick up her food and tugged Ashton to stand as well. He picked up his tray and they both walked off.
“Hey,” Adam said, “but wait I thought you have four siblings.” A light blush tinted my cheeks. He remembers that? I rubbed my face, nervously.
“I do. The other two are at home,” I said as the lunch bell rang. “Well, I guess I will see you around.” I started to get up when Adam slashed out a hand and stuck it to my arm.
“Go out with me,” he blurted out.
“What?” I asked in shocked.
“Go out with me. Please,” he said, looking into my eyes.
“Why?” I asked.
“I think that should be oblivious. I mean you are pretty and mysterious. I want to figure you out. That’s all. Say you will go out with me,” he said as he stood up. He took my hands. “Please.” His light blue eyes pierce into my heart, making my heart stop with their beauty. Oh gosh I thought this is happening too fast for me. I mean the council has a mate, coming for me and now I have this human boy who wants me to go out with me. I really need to get out more. I pulled my hand away from his and pick up my book bag. I looked at him and sadly smiled.
“I can’t. I’m sorry,” I said before I quickly walked away from him. I heard him say my name as I walked away. I hurried up to class, which was calculus. I loathe math from the bottom of my soul I thought as I walked into the class. I made it just in time. The teacher walked in minute after I took my seat. He introduce today lecture then went on to teach us.
It was about five minutes into the class when a voice comes over the intercom.
“Ms. Gibson, can you send Elizabeth Gray to the office for a minute please?” the lady asked.
“I sure can,” Ms. Gibson said. She turned to me. “ Elizabeth, you can go.” I got up from my seat and left the classroom. I went to the office. The receptors motion for me to come over to her, so I went over.
“Here,” she said, holding out the phone. “ It’s your mother.” I took the phone and held it up to my ear.
“Hello?” I asked into the mouthpiece.
“Hey, Elizabeth. You aren’t going to like the news I have for you,” Odette said over the phone. I sighed.
“What is it?” I asked her.
“Well, you know the mate the council is sending over here? He is arriving earlier than excepted,” Odette said.
