Is war ever justifiable? That is the question that has baffled politian’s for the ages. World War 1 was a perfect example because on one hand we could have stood up for the neighboring countries or just stood back and left things alone. But how could we? A country was gaining power against its neighbors and being induced by communism, so there really weren’t any options. That is why I am a strong believer in that in times of great stress war can be justified.

Imagine what would have happened if France hadn’t stepped in during World War 1. Germany would have kept gaining power until they took over half of Europe and was that a risk that other countries were willing to take? Obliviously not, because the Triple Entente took Germany head on knowing that it could have caused harmful repercussions.

Germany was imperialistic. They wanted to conquer other countries for their own gain. So it was their neighboring countries responsibility to take action against them. Even though it wasn’t desired, it was necessary. War has been going on for centuries. Philosophers pondered whether war is ever justified. Different views and theories have developed throughout the centuries and attempted to solve this dilemma, but it never will be solved because it is a reoccurrence.

First and foremost, the war has to be commended for a just cause. A war can only be justified if the country has been attacked, that if by an aggressor, or if the country enters the war in the aid of another nation which has been attacked. A nation cannot enter war if it aids the aggressor. The intention of war cannot be simply to fight. Killing should never be the sole purpose of war, in fact the killing of innocents or inflicting suffering cannot justifiably be done if it is avoidable.

To prevent war is another story, where it states the use of military force in the face of threats of war or to prevent a nation from growing to powerful, enough to pose a threat in the future. A formal declaration of such a war is not needed, as the main aim is to catch the other countries off guard by attacking first and destroying things that may be used against them. Examples of preventive war in reality are Hitler’s attack against Russia, and Japan’s attack in the Pearl Harbor.

War. Is just War, which is a conflict carried on by force of arms, it is either between nations or between parties within a nation; warfare, is by land, sea, or air. It is not planned, in the usual sense, it just happens by mere disagreement. So as I understand it war CAN be justified not because it is preferred but just because of what it is, War.
