Some Kind of Fantasy: Cal’s Fantasy Contest
First I want to thank all of you guys, even if you didn't finish. You guys are the definition of awesome. I also want to thank you guys for being so nice and silent about the fact that it took forever to score. Sam and I scored this contest like so: (-) minus for maybe, (0) zero for okay, (+) for yea; each of those got a number, there were some 0+ and ++, the extra plus counts as .5.
Now for the results!
Second Place goes to Jiggity.
First Place goes to TL G-Wooster
Judges Choice Award
For those who are interested.

About
I have created another table of doom, in the contest you will pick five of the words from the table to use as prompts. You can write in any format you want: script, poetry, story, etc. Your story has to be something in the fantasy genre, I don’t care what type of fantasy it is, just that it contains fantastical elements; it can be modern fantasy, high fantasy, or a fairytale. I am also hosting a character contest as the same time as this contest, if you commit to this contest, you CANNOT commit to the character contest.
Here is an example that I wrote. Or you can look around at the entries from my other contests for examples.
Length: These are meant to be short pieces, I don't except five, fully completed stories, so don't stress yourselves out.
Word count: There are no restrictions on word count.
Timeline: ANY TIME, PLACE, OR FIGMENT OF REALITY YOU WANT IT TO BE IN.
NEW Deadline: 11:59 PM September 1st, 2008
Rules
> no more/no less than five entries per person
> must be of fantasy goodness, whether it is modern fantasy, high fantasy, etc.
> entries must be proofread or I might send you to that special hell.
> Have Fun!
How to Post
Post your entries in the proper sub-forum on YWS, e.g. Dramatic Poetry or Historical Fiction. You can post them as one entry or multiple entries. Then post the link(s) to your entry here or PM me the link(s). Somewhere in your entry or post here what five prompts you are using. You can also PM you entries if you don't want anyone but me and my guest judges to look at them.
Prizes
Judging is based on all those good writerly things, as well, including plot, characterization, diction, style, description, imagery, syntax, symbolism, etc.
First -- Three of Cal's Proper Critiques and a fanmix. To see an example of a fanmix click here.
Second -- Two of Cal's Proper Critiques and a fanmix.
Third -- One of Cal's Proper Critiques and a fanmix.
Basically, the same prizes as my last contest.
There are also guest judges that are helping me out.

> Adam
> Sam
Table of Doom
Sorry, I can't figure how to input the table, so you'll have to open it up in another window or tab. This is actually a mini table; I cut the prompt words to choose from in half.
Mini-Table of Doom
You can also download the table to your computer: click here.
Good luck,
Cal.

Woo! I might win by default!
Haha, I rule.
Nah, but it does seem a somewhat disappointing turn out given that there's a bazillion people that flood the Fantasy Forum every day. |

Whenever I post in one of these threads, I end up not finishing the contest. Unfortunately. I'm starting to consider it bad luck =P However, with each subsequent contest, I come closer and closer to actually finishing. Maybe this will be the first? Then again, I can't say for certain. So this post is me unofficially posting and unofficially *not* posting.

Er, wow, it's a misspelling of pockmark, which is this.
My bad.
Leja,
In my book, any writing is good, even if you don't finish.
Ta,
Cal. |
