Some Kind of Character: Cal’s Character Contest

First I want to thank all of you guys, even if you didn't finish. I also want to thank you guys for being so nice and silent about the fact that it took forever to score, I have been uber busy. Kylan and I scored this contest like so: (-) minus for maybe, (0) zero for okay, (+) for yea; each of those got a number, there were some 0+ and ++, the extra plus counts as .5.

Now for the results!

Third Place goes to HC.

Second Place goes to KaliaMarie.

First Place goes to Sam.

Judges Choice Awards

I will be contacting the winners asap. For those who are interested.

Cal, these have to be the best contests in the world because they actually get me to write! You can be sure I'll play, at least a little, in this one.

And I'm ready with questions! ^_~ Do we have to use the pictures/are there any requirements revolving around the pictures? Does it matter if it is five studies of one character, or one study of five characters?

You make the sporadic writer inside me happy!

Dude, I'm so in, I'm out.

(Also, do you know where 20 was taken? It looks terribly familiar--I don't know from what. XD)

Count me in! Very Happy

One question, although I think I'm going to do this anyway: Pictures and table, or pictures or table?

I hope you don't mind the first one. xD I've got some ideas already thinking that way.

Edit: Oh! And... can the character be made a character through personification? Like... inanimate objects and such?

There are no requirements on the pictures, I just thought they'd be useful. I've put in a clause because Sam told me about it, and it can be one character five times or five different characters, or whatever you want.

Picture and/or table. Though, I secretly hope that pictures are used or are at least some help.

Very Happy

Yes! That would be awesome.

I'm going to do my best to enter this. In fact, I've chosen the pictures, titled each piece and written the first one, so you should see something for me this time!

I'm a bit confused, do we have to use the table? Because I'm doing it with just pictures, one inspiring each story.

Your contests are amazingly inspiring, Cal. I will do my best to enter.
A few questions, though: Can the stories have a first person narrator? Are they supposed to be linked together?

That's all for now

Usually, I'd say you have to use the table. But, because I've got pictures this time, and you've already done your thing, I'm saying yes, you don't have to use the table.

Saint,

YAY!

Yes, to the first question. They don't have to be linked together if you don't want them to be.

Stella,

Think happy thoughts.

Very Happy

I hope I've answered everyone's questions.

Ta,
Cal.

I think I might join, but does the word we choose from the table have to be the central focus of the piece? Like, if I used "fear" would the whole story have to be about fear or do I just have to use the word once or twice?

No, the word from the table doesn't have to be the central focus. You can use it however you want. It can be the central focus or you can use it in the piece, or it can simply be inspiration or a starting point.

I hope that explains it.
Cal.

Okay - thanks for clearing things up, Cal.
You can count me in Smile
Oh, and one more question, just to be a pain: Does it matter whether the 5 pieces are the same length? Would it be all right to make them very different? I think it might add a nice touch, and just wanted to clearify whether it's ok.

Tess,

It doesn't matter how long the pieces are, just that they have substance. I've had anywhere from two sentence to 25 page entries before.

Razz
