|
|
RESULTS:
First place: SAM, for her wonderful, inspiring (dare I say klidoscopic?) poem, "INTERCELLULAR JIHAD." I couldn't resist giving this one to Sam, even though I tried to look into a relatively newer member's poem. She took such an inspiring yet exhausting perspective on Islam, which is such a controversial religion, that her win was not the least bit impulsive.
Second place: GAHKS, for his eye-opener "OPEN EYES", which had a cliche subject transformed into a fresh, pacific fruit.
Third Place: KYLAN, for the astounding imagery and literary language he employed in his poem "OF WOODPUSHERS AND SACRED HEARTS. What can we say about Kylan? He can win any contest if he just put his mind to it. This one would have taken First if it weren't for its formulaic structure (Kylan, sometimes it's okay to be critiqued.)
Wooohoo!
MISSION:
Write a poem about a religion. Any religion. Can be about its history, about its belief, about current events, about how it matters to you, or even about why you like it. It doesn't have to be your religion. It can be as long or short as you wish it to be. Free verse, sonnet, haiku: I don't care.
OR
NEW: Write any kind of poem about the Holocaust. Since this is Holocaust Memorial Day, I feel it is my obligation to show our support for those who suffered.
(Just make sure that it's a poem.)
It can be hard-hitting, it can be light and cheery (not sure so much about the Holocaust)... anything.
DATE: MAY 21
EXAMPLE: My Passover/Holocaust Poem. Notice how it barely fits Judaism? The religious aspect is very subtle in this one, and yours can be like that too.
PRIZES:
First Place: 300 points and 5 crits of choice.
Second Place: 100 points and 3 crits of choice
Third Place: 2 crits of choice
Honorable Mention: 1 crit, not of choice

| Does it HAVE to be abuot a certain religion or can it be about your spiritual beliefs. Like there is no certain 'named' religion... if you get what I mean... |

" Does it HAVE to be abuot a certain religion or can it be about your spiritual beliefs. Like there is no certain 'named' religion... if you get what I mean..."
OF COURSE NOT! Make it about anything you spiritually belief: it doesn't have to be one strict religion. Though, just to make sure, it has to be about "a set of beliefs concerning the cause, nature, and purpose of the universe, esp. when considered as the creation of a superhuman agency or agencies, usually involving devotional and ritual observances, and often containing a moral code governing the conduct of human affairs. " Because that's what Religion means.

| Oh dear. I think I'd best drop out. Finals (my last day of school is the 23rd of May) are taking over my life. I did try to write something, but it turned into a very short story instead of a poem. And I've got to study. Have fun everyone, but you can count me out. Sorry. |
