My turn to empisize!

You need to develop a subplot. Take the latest Fire Emblem game. Don't worry, I won't go into details. If they had only covered the main character's journey, it would be a pretty darn short game. But they added political issues between countries, reasons for wars, different characters, and eventually came out with a pretty darn long game.
