Great News!

The poetry crew and I have decided to start doing a monthly contest. How? When? And for what? Aha...now the fun starts.

To start things out we will start easy with a couplet. As the months go on, the poetic forms will get harder.

Deadlines: All entries are due by 11:59pm EST on September 30th.

Rules:
All entries must be couplets (and just because it's a couplet does not mean you should just throw one together, spend some time with it!). For this particular month, each entry must be a SET of couplets (can't make it TOO easy) and we will choose the best set (but they do not have to be tied together). Please PM all entries directly to me in lieu of posting them here on the thread. Only one winner will be chosen and it will be by majority vote.

The Prize:
The Winner will receive three critiques from the poetry crew (one per crew member) on the poetry piece (or three separate pieces) of your choice. The winner will also receive a spotlight in the poetry forums as the featured member of the month.

A Couplet

Just incase someone doesn't know the couplet specifics, a couplet is a two-line poem or stanza, usually rhyming.

Example:

In the world of mules
There are no rules.

-“The Mule” by Ogden Nash

Good luck and let me know if you have any questions!

awesome. I'm in. Do the couplets have to be self-contained, like in a ghazal, or can they make up a more linear poem?

Mmm I'm not entirely sure what you are asking, but I think you mean recurring rhyming couplets?

If so, no. We will do those later...for this purpose it's just two seperate couplets.

Hope that helped!

A couple of couplets, huh? This sounds interesting.

May we enter more than once?

No,not this time at least. Just one entry per person (two couplets). Due to the simplicity of this first month I fear that allowing more than one entry would result in a serious pile up of entries--too many for us to judge in a quick fashion. Thanks for bringing that up, though...I meant to put that in the rules!

If life was a flower, just waiting to be picked
then the scent and the image, we surely would have nicked!

Despite the thorns and weeds galore,
once we had one smell, we’d need much more!
