YWS employs a content rating system so as to tell members what to expect in terms of language and content before they start reading. For instance, this topic is rated 'G' since it contains no offensive content whatsoever. Now, it is important to not think of this as the movie rating system. A YWS R is very different from a movie R. Below is an explanation of the content ratings:
G: For general audiences. You could read it to a three year old and not have to worry about a thing.
PG: Maybe the topic deals with something serious or contains a couple of low-key curse words.
PG-13: The topic has some minor mature content. For most debates, a PG-13 rating is appropriate because of the heated discussion that often takes place. For stories and poems, if it's talking about a mature situation or an act of violence, it should be rated PG-13.
R: A topic should be rated R if it has any of the following elements:
- Graphic content
- It is sexually explicit
- Has the 'F' word
R is also the only rating that is absolutely required.
If there's any question as to what your work should be rated, err on the safe side and rate it the higher rating. So if you can't decide between G and PG, go for PG. You can always change the rating later. |
