Contests Ends: September 11th at 11:59 p.m. GMT

Filling the Knowledge Base

For some time now, the Resources section (accessible on the top menu bar) has been quite empty. Originally this was intended to be a very large database of articles, links and tutorials. Unfortunately it has not worked out that way. Thus, this contest is providing incentives for members such as yourself to add to the Knowledge Base and make it something YWS is proud of.

Since this is an unusual contest (no entries are required, as such) I will run by how this is going to work.

I have made a list of everything that is currently in the Resources section as of now. Therefore, from this minute forward, every new link added will be counted as part of this contest. When the deadline passes, I will check the new list against my list, making a note of the member who added the article/link, and then work out who is the winner.

Rules

1. You CANNOT add articles that are not yours from YWS. For example, you cannot go into the writing tips forum and take somebody else's tutorial, even if you give credit. Only tutorials or articles of your own making should be added. This also applies to any articles from the web or otherwise: this is considered plagiarism and is a banning offence.

2. Quality WILL be taken into account. Obviously this applies less to links -- however, these will still be looked at.

3. It is clear that it is easier to add links than it is to add articles and tutorials. Don't worry, I will be taking this into account when adding up each member's contribution.

Prizes

First Prize: A YWS Notebook (white or black)
http://www.cafepress.com/ywsstore/2025645

Second Prize: 2500 YWS Points.

Third Prize: Recognition/Pat on the Back/Feeling of Satisfaction.

If you have any questions, you may use this thread.

Contest begins now! Go forth and multiply the Resources database!

I want a note book.... yay, something to do in study hall!

EDIT: So who ever has the most and best quality of things wins...? *confused*

Whoever has contributed the most will win. Clearly, if somebody posts seventeen articles with twenty words in each, while somebody posts two articles with a thousand words in each, simply looking at the face value of quantity won't work.

Don't think about it too much, it's simply to prevent anybody winning who doesn't deserve it.

I have a question. I have a number of articles on writing that are bookmarked. Many of them are really informative, but most of them are just one page rather than an entire website - say, an article on a journalist's homepage about tips for doing editorials, or a novelist's tips for action scenes, something like that.

Since most of the sites aren't geared toward writing, save for one or two articles, I feel funny submitting these under "Writing sites" - would they be better in the miscellaneous category?

You can always just add the link that goes directly to the article.

Ah, goody. I can put those random rants I've been writing in my Chemistry notebook to good use! *gets typing*

With so little additions so far, it seems somebody might win a Notebook with little effort! All it takes right now is three of four additions to the Knowledge Base and you can win a PRIZE for nothing whatsoever.

Could be fun. I already posted something, though. Would that count towards the notebook, or would I have to start over?

I believe it starts over, from the start of the contest on. How depressing? Hehe, but it's only fair.
