(Not much to say about this chapter. There's a few fights but it's not as exciting as the last few chapters, at least that's what I think. Also, I wasn't sure how to spell her name so I just went with Elione. If anyone can tell me if that's the correct way to spell it or not I'd appreciate it.)
“A speech, huh? Hmm…”
Tylor stood in front of the whole class. Squall, Selphie and Zell had already given their speeches and now it was Tylor’s turn. He didn’t have any kind of speech planned so he had to think of something to say.
“Well, here it goes… I guess I never expected this much to happen in such a short amount of time. Just this morning I got off the train and arrived here, at Balamb Garden. I was transferred from Galbia Garden to take place in the SeeD exam. I met some friends, I made some enemies, and I fought a war. All in all, I’d have to say this has been an exciting afternoon. I look forward to my stay here. Thank you.”
Everyone applauded as he stepped away from Quistis’ desk. Zell came up to compliment him. “Nice speech, Ty!”
“Thank’s, Zell.”
Quistis stood up from behind her desk. “Now that all the speeches are finished you can all get ready for the party. Squall, Tylor, Zell and Selphie, please come up to receive the key cards to your new rooms.” One-by-one they all received a key card with the room number written on it. Tylor’s number is room 89. Quistis continued, “Please go to your rooms and change into your SeeD uniforms for the party.”
A few minutes later Tylor found his room among the rest of the dorms. He swiped the key card through the slot and the door slid open. He’s not too fond of sliding doors, he still has a bruise on his forehead from the one in the infirmary.
His room is a single. A bed took up the left side of the room. There is a table for studying in front of the window. His SeeD uniform is sitting folded on his bed. He changed and went to the party.
The inauguration party was set in Garden’s ballroom on the second floor. It’s underneath the Headmaster’s office. There were flowers on every wall. Many people danced in the centre of the room to the music being played by a live orchestra. A waitress walked up to Tylor and handed him a glass of champagne. He took it and thanked her.
“Yo!” Zell ran up to Tylor. He is also wearing the SeeD uniform. “S’up, Tylor?”
Tylor looked at his uniform and said, “Looking good, Zell.”
“Heh-heh, you too. I guess we’re both SeeDs now, huh?” Zell wiped his hand on his pants and held it out. “Put it there, man.”
Tylor smiled and grabbed his hand. “Let’s hope for a prospective future.”
Zell waved and said, “See ya.” before running off to see the rest of the party. As he ran off Tylor noticed Squall being pulled out onto the dance floor by a young woman in a white dress.
Tylor couldn’t help but smile. The young woman’s name is Rinoa, one of the main characters they’re supposed to meet during their first SeeD mission.
“Hey, Tylor!” Tylor looks over his shoulder to see Selphie running toward him. “Wanna join the Garden Festival committee? You can help out whenever you have time.”
“I don’t know…” Tylor didn’t want any more work on top of the stuff he has to do now that he’s part of SeeD.
“Please?”
“You know, I’d love to but I just don’t think I’ll have enough time. Most of the time I’ll be away from Garden on missions, and when I am here I’ll probably be too busy studying or training. Sorry.”
“Oh, that’s OK.” Selphie spotted someone else. “Oh, s’cuse me? You over there!” She ran off to try and recruit some more people.
Tylor finished off his champagne and went out to the balcony to be alone. He leaned against the stone railing and looked out at the night sky. Fireworks suddenly lit up the sky with bright showers of red and orange.
As he stares off he says to himself, “What’s to become of me? Do I have to keep fighting? Is that all I do…? Why am I here? How do I get home?”
He thought back to before he first woke up in the infirmary. He had heard a voice telling him to fulfill his destiny. “My destiny… What is my destiny?” This is supposed to be a happy occasion but all this thinking is making Tylor feel depressed. He decides to skip the party and go back to his room.
As he walked through the ballroom someone bumped into him. It was Rinoa. She quickly appoligized, “Oh, sorry. I was in a hurry and I didn’t see you.”
“That’s OK, Rinoa.”
She gave him an odd look. “…Excuse me?”
Tylor didn’t say anything. He walks away as quickly as he can and thinks, Just walk away quickly. Just walk away quickly.
The first thing Tylor did once he got back to his room was flop out on his bed. Between fighting wars and running from mechanical monstrosities today has been a very tiring day. Even so, he couldn’t get to sleep. His mind was restless, so many questions being left unanswered. It was beginning to frustrate him.
He sat up on his bed. “Gahhh! I can’t get to sleep! I’ve got to do something to clear my mind.” He saw Armageddon and Apocalypse standing against his desk. That gave him an idea, fighting monsters in the Training Centre would help clear his mind.
“Wait a minute…” Tylor thought for a minute. He remembered something was supposed to happen in the Training Centre tonight. Elione, an important character is about to be attacked by one of the monsters there. Tylor quickly got out of his SeeD uniform and into his usual army camo cargo pants, black jacket and white sneakers, grabbed his swords and ran out of his room.
The Training Centre is huge and full of all kinds of plants. Monsters are allowed to roam freely in this place. It’s perfect for training, but dangerous for amateurs. Tylor looked around to see anything out of the ordinary. There didn’t seem to be any hint of trouble.
A loud roar sounded from a nearby group of trees. Tylor took out his sword Apocalypse and readied himself for whatever would come out. A large dinosaur know as a T-Rexaur stepped out and growled at him, saliva dripped from its mouth as it barred its teeth. Its tough hide is orange with blue stripes. Its underbelly is white. It stands on strong legs and has a long, powerful tail to smack its enemies with.
“Great,” Tylor complained, “just what I need, a prehistoric predator staring me in the face.” He whipped up some magic. “Let’s see how this thing fares against another ice age!”
Before Tylor had a chance to cast anything the T-Rexaur lurched forward with its teeth ready to bite. Tylor managed to evade the attack by rolling to the side. He countered by slashing his sword upward against the dinosaur’s neck. Its hide was too thick to cut through. Tylor’s sword barely made a scratch.
The T-Rexaur spun its body and slammed Tylor with its tail. Tylor flew back into a tree. He quickly regained his senses just in time to move out of the way. The T-Rexaur had intended to grab Tylor with its teeth, when he moved it grabbed the tree instead. It lifted the tree out of the ground, roots and all, and crushed it with its jaws. It turned to Tylor and let out a terrifying roar.
“So, conventional attacks won’t work, huh? Guess I’ll have to go back to my original plan.” Tylor put his sword on his back and charged the T-Rexaur; at the same time he began to whip up some more magic.
The enraged dinosaur snapped with its jaws but Tylor ignored them and jumped on its nose. Using the dinosaur’s nose for leverage he jumped into the air. In mid-air he launched a Blizzara attack from above. Large icicles formed around him. He waved his hand toward the T-Rexaur, as if commanding the icicles to attack. The large icicles plunged into the T-Rexaur’s body in several different spots and the dinosaur fell to the ground, dead.
Once Tylor landed he took a moment to catch his breath. “Man… that was tough… I hope I don’t run into more of those.”
A far off screech is heard, followed by somebody calling for help. Tylor sighs, “Well, so much for catching my breath.” and takes out both of his swords. He runs in the direction where he heard the scream.
Tylor arrived in time to see Squall and Quistis protecting Elione from a giant flying insect with wings. It’s called a Granaldo and looks very much like a killer bee. The colours of its scales are orange and blue. It has large talons for feet and small scythes for arms like a preying mantis. It has a long tail with a pod on the end that protects its stinger.
The Granaldo has them cornered with nowhere to run. Its stinger begins to retract from its tail, indicating that it’s about to attack. Tylor charges into battle. He jumps and slices off the tip of its stinger. The insect lets out a horrible screech as the rest of its stinger slowly recedes back into the pod.
Quistis calls out in surprise, “Tylor! What are you doing here?”
Tylor kept a firm grip on both swords as he stared down the monster. “We don’t have time to talk right now. You two protect Elione, I’ll take care of this monster!” Just then he realized the mistake he made by saying Elione’s name, but it was too late now. Maybe they would forget after the battle.
The Granaldo swooped down to attack with its scythe-like arms. Tylor ducked down to evade the attack. Before the insect got away Tylor dropped his sword Armageddon and grabbed the creature’s leg.
The monster lifted him into the air. It began to flail wildly as it tried to throw Tylor off. Tylor’s grip loosened but he grabbed onto the creature’s tail before falling to the ground below. The Granaldo let out a screech as it whipped its tail back and forth with great strength. From Squall and Quistis’ view it must have looked like Tylor’s arm would break at any moment. They couldn’t believe how strong his grip must be in order to keep hold of that thing.
Tylor lost his patience and sliced the creature’s tail right off with one swift cut. The Granaldo let out a horrible screech. Tylor fell once the tail was dismembered. Before hitting the ground he grabbed onto a nearby tree branch. He lifted himself up on the branch and crouched.
The insect spotted him and lunged forward with great speed. Tylor leaped off of the branch and cut the Granaldo in half through the waist. The creature’s upper body hit the ground, its lower body fell into a nearby pond. With the fight over Tylor retrieved Armageddon and placed both his swords onto his back.
Elione fell to her knees, probably because of the shock from the battle. Two men in very light brown SeeD uniforms appeared to help her. One of them said, “It is not safe here. Please, let’s go.”
“…Alright.” Elione slowly got to her feet. The two men helped her. As they left Elione stopped and looked at Tylor. She carefully looked over him, first his face, then his swords. She had a look in her eyes, it looked like fear and curiosity rolled into one. “What’s your name?” She asked.
“Tylor.” he told her.
“Tylor…”
One of the men said, “We must leave now.”
Once they were gone Quistis asks, “Who was that…?”
“I don’t know.” Tylor replied.
Squall turned to him and asked, “If you don’t then how did you know her name?”
Crap! Tylor decided to play dumb. “What do you mean?”
“When you came you called her Elione.”
“No I didn’t, you’re probably mistaken. Are you sure it wasn’t you?”
Squall waved his hand and said, “Whatever. Let’s just get out of here.”
Once they got to the entrance of the Training Centre Quistis stopped and looked at Squall. “Squall. It’s not like everyone can get by on their own, you know?” Before he could say anything she walked away.
“…Says who?” Squall replied.
“Am I missing something?” Tylor asked, acting like he didn’t already know what they were talking about.
“It’s none of your business.”
“Ooooh, I get it.” Tylor slapped a big grin on his face.
Squall looks at him. Annoyed, he asks, “What?”
“I didn’t know you and Quistis had a thing going on.” He nudged his elbow against Squall’s arm. “You lucky devil.”
Squall slapped away his elbow and said, “There’s nothing going on between us.”
“Oh, I see. It’s a secret, huh? All hush-hush?”
“Shut up.”
“Don’t worry, I won’t tell anyone.”
Squall sighed. “I’m going to bed.” He left Tylor in front of the Training Centre.
“Well, bugging Squall was fun. Maybe I should head in too.” He looked back into the Training Centre and said, “…On the other hand those fights got my blood flowing, and I’m not really that tired anymore. Maybe I should go train some more.” He grabbed his swords and went back into the Training Centre. |
