For the most part, the Catholic church and I stay out of each other's way, but I've always loved the Virgin Mary and her story... so here's my tribute.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------

Our Lady of Compassion

Our Lady of Grace.

Outstretched arms and silent marble smile;

Your china blue eyes

Reflect the light of a thousand candles lit,

apologies uttered,

thanks murmered,

prayers lifted up

to GODONHIGH.

Are you really His angel,

albeit without wings;

The sweet soul who softly wept

when they laid in your arms

your only begotten son

still and cold as your

marble effigy?

Or were you more like me,

a real woman I mean, a flesh-and-blood being

who screamed and fought and cried

when they took him from you?

And did Anna hold you as you wept,

giving the comfort only Mother can?

Did she offer up a silent plea for both of her miracle babies?

I have so many questions to ask you

Mother of All mothers,

But your stare does not waver

and your pale lips do not part.

So instead I drop my change into the donation box,

Light my candle and whisper a private prayer:

In the name of the Father,

and of the Son,

but most of all the Mother,

We Pray.

I'm not really digging my title, any suggestions?
