|
|
Hello!
This is the first forum I've started, so forgive me if it's something someone else has done. Matchstick sentences or phrases, for those who might not know, are sentences or phrases that sort of jump-start a writer's mind. For some reason, I'm pretty good at coming up with them, I just have trouble fleshing them out (except for this one time........but let's not go there). Anyway, I'm posting several of the ones I've written, they're here, free and open to any and all who would like to use them. It's also perfectly all right if you wish to post some matchsticks yourselves, go at it!
Note:you might want to let the others know you've "taken" a phrase, just in case they want to take that same one, too, and you end up with two compleatly different works with the same first line.
Note:this isn't really a writing exersize, you don't have to post what becomes of the sentences if you don't want to.
Have fun!
It wasn’t his fault.
The candle flame spluttered and went out, leaving only the stars to illuminate the windless night.
The tree saw it all.
He stormed out of the room, slammed the door behind him, and walked unconcernedly off the cliff edge.
Much to her surprise, Alice (or whoever) died on Thursday.
I knew, watching the red eyes approach me across the room, that it was time to leave.
The guitar, unhappy at being left alone, thrummed gently in loneliness.
John looked over his father’s manuscript, sighed, reached out to take the quill in his small, six-year old hand, and corrected the half-dozen or so spelling problems on this page alone.
The ring rolled down the street, hesitated, then turned right.
The third person died on Monday.
The girl survived, so of course I had to protect her from the second wave of assassins. |

Taking the second one.
If I actually get time, I plan on using it to "jump-start" the story I said I'd write for Imp so long ago. |

Hey Gyr, I'm glad you posted this for YWS!
All right, I'm going to post some of my own:
"I suppose this is as good a time to tell you as any... I'm already infected."
As he stared into her glassy eyes, he wished he hadn't killed her.
Samuel S. Tocking flew as hard as he could through the forest.
"You know, if you keep being difficult I'm going to have to torture you again."
(I know I'm not as good with these as Gyr... but I try. ) |
