Another suggestion is perhaps making The Lounge a forum where posts don't count towards the post count total of a user. Otherwise you sometimes get people who wrie lots of things that are off-topic, get high post counts, yet never actually either post any work/or comment on anyone elses.

About the critiquing, I don't think I'd feel very comfortable editing someones else work until I'm comfortable with my own...it doesn't seem right to pick out things in other people's work if I doubt I'm very good at them myself. So I won't volunteer myself, but I might try it sometime, if I see a story I really like and want to make better. Otherwise its not really fair.

Generally though, thats a good idea, and will help the site, I think. The only problem is finding other willing people.

I know... not many people will want to be an editor...

Actually, there's another good reason for not letting guests read the stories and poems. If everyone can read them, then from what I've heard, they're considered published making it hard to publish them elsewhere.

Does anyone know if stories posted here still lose first publication rights even though only members can see them? I'd like to post some of the stuff I'm working on now, but I'd also like to try to publish them too. Do you think we could have the option of deleting our work after, say, a month or so? That way we won't have to worry about it already being online if we try to publish it elsewhere.

When you post a certain number of posts, your rank changes.Thats all that's happened. I think junior writer is about 5 posts...

Nay, some stuff in there is about writing. I don't think you should do that for it to not count. I mean, it is posting there, anyway.

To respond to Firestarter's message about posts total...

Under the current system, it's impossible to keep posts in The Lounge or other such forums from counting toward the total. However, what I will be implementing here soon is a Points based system similiar to the "Gift Points" system at writing.com and similiar (for TYWC'ers) to the megabytes system at TYWC. Basically, users will earn 25 points for new stories and poems and earn 10 points for reviewing stories and poems. Points will not be given, though, to posts made in the "Welcome" and "General Discussion" forums. Also, users will be able to donate points to other users for good reviews or good stories/poems. In the future, points, along with prestige, will be used to determine the member of the month and (in the far future), member of the year. And, who knows, maybe member of the decade too?

The points system is actually ready to go right now, but I'm going to hold off on adding it until the weekend to give users a chance to get use to the Prestige system and the other features which were added yesterday.

I like the prestege thing. Look! I've got a 9 Very Happy, I feel so happy and special!!!! Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy The point thing sounds good... I like the sound of the bit where you get points for critiquing work, that's a really good incentive for people to help others out with their writing. Very Happy

Yea, comments & suggestions... About the prestige, just check out the topic Nate created on it. It talks all about it... Nate: consider making the 'YWS' in the genElectro a little smaller so that you can make the space variation to bring the "The Young Writer's Society" down a bit so you can make the black and light grey contrast. Is there any way to bunch up the [FAQ,Search,Usergroups,Memberlist]? That may help.

In the Solaris, add the ' after the "s" in Writers... Just critiquing.

RED MAKES MY EYES POP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Make it black, and bring it down a bit so that it can be visable in the light grey.

I have a suggestion. Maybe someone can use the points you give them for something...I don't know what, like a special rank for them or you can spend 50 points to make a new usergroup or something like that. Or a member of the month can use their title to get a new rank.

Another suggestion, is there a way you can get the latest announcement to pop up up near the head of the page? Above all the closed forums, like saying Latest Announcement: Member of the Month.

I've seen it on other boards and I was wondering if it could be done here.

EBM ->> Member's of the Month will get an award for it in their profile, but a special rank sounds like a good idea as well. Could only last for a month, though.

Firestarter ->> Yeah, I can install something like that. I can't do it right now because school is catching up to me (final exams in two weeks...) but by the time the Member of the Month is announced, it'll be done.

Can you make something in people's profiles where they can put if they are male or female? It gets really confusing and I don't want to call a guy a girl or vice versa...
