Heeeeey Everyone.
So I learned something in my Creative Writing class that is probably the most frustrating and amazing thing I could have ever learned. It's a rule and I wanted to share it with everyone because frankly it improved my writing SO much that I just wanted to go up and give my teacher the biggest hug ever in front of the whole class, which would have been wierd. I did not hug my teacher in front of the class just so you know.
It's mostly a short story rule but I think you could use it for parts of longer stories or novels, but I have only used it with my short stories so far.
The rule is : avoid TO BE verbs (am, is, are, was, were)
At first I hated that rule so much, but then I realized my writing was so much better becuase instead of using these verbs I was putting in more description and adding important information I didn't even realize my story needed. My grammar still sucks but I think that is my english teacher's fault haha.
Anyways this is an about the author forum isn't it...hmmmmmm.
Well I have not been on this site in a loooooong time but I do intend to be more active very soon. Like now possibly.
I love watermelon, scary movies (well let's face it, all movies) and writing. It's what I do when there is nothing else in the world to do.
I want to be a director when I grow up, which will probably be....never.
I have four (younger!!) siblings and two dogs, sometimes it's hard to tell the difference.
I write mostly humor fiction, short fiction, a little bit of sci fi, and I also really like writing movie scripts. That's mostly because I want to be a director. Someday.
I'm almost done with high school (gasp) and I still haven't finished anything I'm really proud of. Graduation is looming and I did set a goal to finsih a whole entire story by the time I turned 18 which is coincidentally right after graduation. Sigh.
After High School I have every intention of moving to Utah, going to a community college to get my gen eds out of the way then transfering to UCLA. scary, I know. I also plan on having a dog at some point between now and UCLA in my apartment with my best friend/room mate.
Now that I have given you more information than you could hope to ever want (or care) to know about me I am finsihed. Almost. I love to read and reveiw. I can't help you with your grammar (see above for who is to blame), but I have practiced in my duel credit college classes how to reveiw work. So if I learned it in college it must be legit riiiight?
Just message me or shoot a flare up, something and I will find your story, read, and critique.
Thanks for reading (or skipping down to the bit at the end about reveiws and completely ignoring my awesomly cool personal information) hope to hear from you soon!
Yours endearingly,
Rory E. Legend
Remember at three in the morning when your eyes hurt, your back is killing you from sitting in a hunched position, you have a headache from keys clicking when you type, your mixing up there, their, and they're, and you can't sleep because you have to get this last word down, that writing is FUN.
