Inspired by reading Agatha Christie, I bring you Murder and Investigation. I want you to write a murder mystery that will make your readers stre at the screen when they find out who did it, but then be able to re-read it and pick up all the clues you dropped.

For this contest you must write the parts, Before the Murder, Discovering the Murder and The Murderer. There is no word limit, but each part must be over 300 words.

Before the Murder

In this part, introduce your to-be-killed, the murderer, suspects and anybody else you want.

Discovery of the Murder

In this part, write about how the murder is discovered and how the detective/police.whoecer you want goes about interviewing suspects and working out who did it.

The Murderer

In this part, reveal to us who your murdrer is, but also how the erson in charge came to that conclusion.

Deadline: 31 July 2008

The deadline has now been extended to the 20th of September 2008! Please take note of this new development. I hope everybody can get an entry to me by this date!

Prizes:

First prize: Four critiques, 300 points and you story turned into a song
Second prize: Three critiques, 150 points and a Hi-Five
Third prize: Two critiques and a big hug

Anybody who enters automatically recieves one critique on any piece of their choosing.

Good luck!

YES! YWS needed something exactly like this...

If this goes down well, can I do the sequel contest? Wink

Count me in!

Q: Do you want us to stick to the three-part paradigm as demonstrated? Can we do something like Law & Order where the perp gets caught but the prosecutors have a hard time nailing him for the crime?

Gahks

Very Happy

Hmm... I guess so. But remember what I said I wanted: to stare at the screen in shock when it ends, bt then to be able to re-read it and pick up on all the clues.

If you can do that, I'm happy for it to be in a different format.

Heya, I'm in !
This contest is awesome!

One question... when you say three parts, do you mean three "chapters" that have to be posted seperately, or do we simply continue the story as one longer thing with a clear before, murder, conclusion separation?

You can do it any way you like. Three seperte chapters, three chapter in the same thread, three 'bits' of a short story. As long as you meet the specifications, I'm happy.

I'm glad so many people are interested, but I'd love more people who would like to enter!

Do we have to introduce our to-be-killed in the first part? What if it is a murder that took place months before and is now discovered? It's kind of difficult to show the to-be-killed when he's dead months before the story starts.

I guess not, but I'd like to know a bit before them before the body is discovered. I don't want some random person who's never been mentioned to be dead, but if I know about them, that's fine.

Thanks Smile I was planning on introducing them in another way, so that's perfect. This contest is really awesome!

Before the Murder

Ugh. That piece took forever to write. I'll edit this post as I post the next two sections.
