Found a website today that stores historical thumbnails of sites, and so I swiftly downloaded all the thumbnails it had for YWS (total of 12). The earliest is from September 2005, so it unfortunately doesn't show what YWS looked like before it went portal-esque. But if you would like to see what YWS would've looked like prior to going portal (from November 2004 to the first few days of January 2005), all you gotta do is go to the backup site and choose the noteboard theme.

So anyhow, the first one is of YWS on September 21, 2005, and even though a lot has changed, a lot hasn't as well. You got the three column format for the first page along with some header links. The only two things that really have changed are the graphics and the board navigation is mostly on the left rather than up top. Plus, there's the link to the Album we used to have. Yet, you can even see the "Who's in the Chatroom" section, although that was for a very different chat.

The second I've included is from May 8, 2006, which was just two weeks before the site went down (went down for two months on May 22, 2006). At the time, I asserted that the downage wouldn't be forever, but very few believed me Wink

Anyhow, you can see that we used to have featured story & poem picked by Sam and Snoink respectively. Nowadays, featured works is done quite differently, but it didn't return until just a few months ago. The other difference between it and the 2005 one is that the My YWS page was added, the YWS Arcade is there (we used to have dozens of flash games for you to spend points on), and the big 101 sites logo.

Then we move onto to one most of you will remember: February 24, 2007. This is what YWS looked like after it returned. The background back then was all white, the board navigation menu looked cleaner, and you have the full header (the header looked different if you were logged in). By the way, that style is available if you use YWS Light.

Then we move on to August 31, 2007, in which you can see that YWS almost looks totally as it does today. The header is there, and most of the differences are merely cosmetic. In fact, there's really been very little change since then.

So finally we come to the newest one, which is April 11, 2008, and the site hasn't changed since.

Anyhow, not sure how many people will find this interesting, but it shows how YWS has evolved over the years. I doubt it'll evolve much more though. Unlike previous configurations, I'm very happy with the way YWS looks now. I'll always continue to tweak a few things (such as making the header scroll with you), but I think it looks pretty good now.

Aw.

I feel so old, haha. When I looked at the first one, a wave of nostalgia hit me. Wow, crazy.

That's awesome, though. Very cool site, eh?

Noteboard ftw!

I totally had all those in the darkest skin I could until this incarnation, I think.

I found this quite fascinating.
Too bad I wasn't here to see it.

I think those things are intended to cheer people up.

Wow, that's awesome! We should make a documentary or something: "YWS Through the Ages..."

Hehe, I remember the slightly older layouts.....in fact when I joined it must have been the third screen-shot.

Goes to show how good you are at developing the site layout, Nate. Yay for drop-down menus. Very Happy

xx

Hehehe. I remember all of those. I think I missed the noteboard theme though. I dunno. Well, all in all I don't think it's changed that much. You always keep the left and right navbars. You added the top one though with drop down menus. And you've always kept that sort of grey/blue rounded theme. Shows that it's a successful style. Wink Well done, Nate.

I did find this interesting! I actually was thinking the other day (yesterday?) what YWS looked like before. Funny?
