I heard people talk about this, and I'm just wondering, what in your opinion are the essentials for a writer?
Apologises if someone has raised this before.
Here's some of mine, please- add to it with your own suggestions.
1. Imagination- is more important than being an A* English whizz.
2. Pens, paper, favourite notebooks to store budding ideas in.
3.Computer/ Laptop
4. A strong desire to write, and a love for what you do.
Any other ideas?

| For physical items, you've got it just about right. I have both notebooks where I write down little ideas that come to me, and binders, where I store chapters of my novels or short stories. Then, later, I can go through them with my little red pen and revise them. |

I'm going to make one that doesn't require physical items. More of a toolkit of ideas and that sort of thing.
1. A decent knowledge of English mechanics
2. An imagination
3. Being well read
4. A desire to write no matter what
That's my personal toolkit, aside from things like notepads and pencils and those sorts of things. It's kept me writing fair enough, making me better each day |

knowlege of ancient greek-roman-egyptian mythology...
not only does it pop up EVERWHERE when you're reading (if you know what to look for),
many of the linguistics of it help in writing... no duh
and for the count I am not polytheistic... am i christian and even i have found it usefull and non-religiously-offensive for common usage
plus+ greek names are cool! |

Here's my list:
1) Great imagination (of course)
2) Photographic memory helps
3) Some books by authors I admire
4) Some books on writing
5) My computer
6) Do dreams count?
7) Library card
I could go on and on and on (and on) but that's about it for my *basic* toolbox. |

| And here I was gonna say all you needed is a bit of boredom, a catalyst for imagination, and recklessly impulsive behavior... |

Hey
Uhm... These are the things I think are neccesary.
-A place for yourself where no one interupts your thinking process
-Pen, paper, notebooks, etc
-Laptop (better than desktop, take it everywhere)
-Printer
-Internet (Looking up photos of something you're trying to describe helps a lot ! Go google )
-Imagination, of course
-Reading a lot, this helps your vocabulary and everything.
-Background music, if you want
-An open window. Fresh air does wonders for your brain, and the room won't be completely silent if you have a window open, so it's also good. Backgroun noise (as long as it isnt blasting loud) tends to help.. well, I don't know about you guys of course but it helps me.
-Think through your story when you're in bed, try to fall asleep thinking about it I've dreamt up stories that way!
Thats it I think?
