*RESULTS*

Honorable Mention: First of all, I've got to say that all of the entry pieces were incredibly written, well-developed, and observed the purpose of the contest. It was a close race. However, honorable mention will be awarded to Fall_Into_The_Sky's A lover, A mother, A child. While this piece carried considerable emotional punch, I felt that the length didn't do the story justice and that some parts were slightly unrealistic. Regardless, it was a very well-written.

Second Place: Will be awarded to JFW1415's Repercussions! Very suspenseful, very tight, taut, and powerful. It addressed a hot-button issue (abuse) in a new and exciting way. It resonated particularly with me because I tend to read and write the harder, octane-testosterone powered stories and I found myself enjoying every sentence. Some of the pacing was skewed and parts of the plot fell by the wayside, but I'll adress all that in a formal critique. Congratulations!

First Place: Will be awarded to Medusa's colors of the sun! A brilliant story. Stunning in its execution, its emotion, its characters, and its topic. Medusa managed to write this simultaenesously in imagery-oriented and raw action style. Very professional. I would say that if she tightened things down a little more, trimmed some fat, Medusa could easily get this story published. I particularly enjoyed the scene with Elaina wedged inside the cremetorium. Terrific.

Anyway, congratulations to all! Prizes may be requested at anytime! Thank you to all who participated!

*******

So here's the deal.

You've only got ten minutes to live.

Six hundred seconds.

What are you going do with them?

Concept: Write me a short story iwritten from the POV of three different characters who have only ten minutes to live, for whatever reason. The world could be blowing up, the character(s) could be dying of cancer, in line for execution. Whatever. But make it believable. And make it fun.

What I'm Looking For: I'm looking for art. I'm looking for well written stories that flow off of the page. I want to be excited, but I also want my thoughts to be provoked.

For an example: We All Fall Down Part 1

Deadline: May 1st, 2008

Rules:

-- Only previously unposted short stories
-- 3,000 word limit
-- Must include three characters
-- Four submissions must be entered for prizes to be awarded.

Prizes:

1st place: 3 critiques + crit of entry
2nd place: 2 critiques + crit of entry
3rd place: 1 critique + crit of entry

Have fun!

Oh, Kylan, I think I could actually do this! Question: Three character's within the the one story, or three character's in the given situation (so three different stories)? Heh, confused.

Only one thing. As you know, I'm terribly busy. Any chance I could get you to make that deadline longer? May 1, perhaps? ^_~ You know you love me!

Really, I already know the characters I could write this for. I have a few possibilities. I'm excited!

Three characters within one story.

And, sure, I can extend it to May 1st. I just don't like contests that ramble on for too long.

This sounds like a really good contest! I'll be away for most of April, but if I think of it, I might just give it a shot.

I'm in. I've already got my brains whirring. I think I can whip something up by May 1st...

I thought of an idea (it's half-way formed) and I've got a few questions:

1. Can the characters know that they are dieing? Or can they be oblivious?

2. Can all the characters die the same way? Or can they have different fates, as long as they're all part of the same story?

Thank! I will try to enter, depending on your answers. Very Happy

yes, I have ideas but I need to know whether they can be oblivious or not.

1.) I would prefer that the characters knew that their death was impending, otherwise the purpose of the contest is defeated. However, if you feel that you have a brilliant idea that require otherwise, I suppose I could make an exception.

2.) They can die in different ways.

I hope that answered your question as well, NewWriter.

I love it! I've actually already started my entry, and am about a third done. I'm experimenting with using a different writing style than the one I usually use. An author I've been reading lately uses this style, so I took it and altered it to my liking. It's a LOT of fun.

Anyways, expect my entry...soon. I'll probably edit this thing to death.

Just one question: can we PLEASE have more than 3,000 words? That's only 1,000 per person, and I'm at 1,500 with only one person so far.

I may not even go over the limit, but if I do and you won't allow it, you won't be receiving an entry from me. Sad I don't want to have to restrain my writing. (If I did go over, it wouldn't be by much.)

~JFW1415

EDIT: Oh, and if four people don't enter, do we still get the review of the piece we submit? I know we wouldn't get the other prizes, but sometimes people still give that one review.

Well, write as much as you'd like, edit, and then if it's still considerably over the word limit, I'll make an exception.

I'll definately take a look at all entries.

My submission ^^. Spent three hours at Borders hand-writing, and two hours at home editing :]

*Poke*

I have mine done, but it's so rough I'm not willing to post it yet. Is there any way I could get an extension? Just by a few days...Like, until late on Friday possibly? If not, I can rush, but it would be awesome if I could have a tiny extension...

Also, what about time zone differences? What if I pass it in when it's still the first here, but it's the second where you are?

Sorry, I'm running late. Embarassed
