As I look through family history and my past I realize that I can gain a better understanding of my present and garner tools to help build a better future. So let’s get started:

Chapter1

About my grandparents on my father side:

My grandfather Antonio De la Mora was married to Martha Montaño Bosques. Together they had three children, all boys, Antonio (My dad), Jorge and Adolfo. My grandfather Antonio was a talented man; Politician, Musician, Composer and Publisher. He was the Master Band and Director for the Mexican Army’s 6Th Infantry Band. Years later, he was the Band Master of the 20Th Infantry for U.S. Army. He published few music books in the USA. As Mason, he reached the 33rd. degree, and participated on political activities in Mexico. He was the Secretary of Defense during the Adolfo De la Huerta Interim Government in 1920. Three years later when De la Huerta was exiled, he moved to Wichita Kansas. He became a captive of the alcohol and in 1926 died from a heart attack.

After my grandfather died, my widowed grandmother with three little kids in tow moved back to Mexico. There she started working as School Teacher. She eventually became the Director of the School, a position she held for 2o years. She raised the children on her own and never married again. Adolfo died young at 21, he had some health problems, and while he was on an institution he was killed on a fight. After Adolfo´s untimely death, she sent Antonio to the Military Academy in Mexico to study. Jorge was sent to the UNAM to get a degree in Administration. While these were difficult decisions to make on her own, they were the best options she had available to assure her children got a good education with her limited financial resources.

Antonio completed the Air Pilot Career Program with honors and started a military career.

Jorge successfully completed his Administration degree but then he started drinking following the same path my grandfather, his father, made years before.

When my grandfather made the decision to start drinking, he never realized the consequences that decision would have… not only on his life, but his wife’s, children’s and grandchildren’s lives as well.

Before we make a decision, we must think: Who will be affected by this decision, besides me?

Sometimes great talent comes with some leak of vision…

This history will continue.
