Guidelines:
Write something from the POV of an animal (not human or humanoid--such as fairies and elves) or an inanimate object. You can submit prose (not poetry) or verse (poetry). I will have separate winners for prose and verse--but please keep in mind that I am not such an expert when it comes to verse. Rolling Eyes

You can either PM your entry/entries to me or post the LINK (not the actual thing) as a reply on this topic.

Deadline is February twentieth 2008... but will be extended if I don't get enough entries by then.

Rules:
1. entry/entries have to be written in 1st person.
2. entry/entries have to be G, PG, or a tentative PG-13 (if the last, only for mild language or MILD violence)
3. only one or two entries for each person. (Two of the same, or one prose, one verse)
4. prose should be between 300 and 700 words, but if it's like 294 or 712 I won't kill you. Wink
5. verse should be around three to five stanzas.
6. try not to say you're going to enter if you don't think you actually will.
7. only new pieces, please, no old ones. You can rewrite an old one and submit it, though.
8. have fun!

Prizes:
1st: Four critiques.
2nd: Three critiques.
3rd: Two critiques.
4th: One critique.
If people really want points, I might give those too... we'll see.

Example:
This is not an absolutely valid example, considdering it is too short, but it will give you the basic idea. It is something I wrote from the perspective of Mark Twain's Tophat while at the Mark Twain Young Author's Workshop.
Quote:
Mark Twain derived great pleasure from standing out and looking distinguished. When he wanted to make an especially striking impression, he would don me. I am one of his top hats, his favorite, no doubt. When he wore me, smoke from his pipe would float up around my brim, and his thoughts–the witty remarks and intellectual ideas–would drift around inside me. The wooden post I sit on now in the glass museum case isn’t bad, but it’s nothing like Mark Twain’s head.

Please post questions/comments on this topic!

Hope this goes well!

When's the deadline? ^_^

This sounds pretty neat--I will have to think of something good.

I'll join! Very Happy

One question though; can the events that take place in the story be fantasy? I'm considering writing from the p.o.v of a wolf (not Ayra!) and...never mind. It won't kill me to write something non-fantasy, for once...I think. Wink

Any ways, I'll post the link as soon as I'm finished writing!

Cheers for an awesome contest,
Camille

Yeah, it can be fantasy... but it might be good for you to try another kind of fiction. Razz It'll build the bones. Laughing

Thanks for entering!

Come on people... follow in the footsteps of Sam and Ayra!!

Okay, I always say I'll enter and then never do, but I will make a sincere effort to enter this one because I think it's a great idea!

Thanks for entering, Marionette and Alleycat13! Anyone else gonna try this out?

People who said they would enter and haven't: you can expect a stream of annoying PMs from me in the next few days about disobeying rule #6... jk.
