I've been leafing through stories often and I've found that the stories in a long series tend to get less posts as it progresses. Usually they're rather god but people who find it so and can't find any mistakes don't say anything so it doesn't look like as if they're trying to bump up their reviews. Maybe there could be a sort of 'hits' system where a person who reads it and likes it can say so without posting by clicking on a button? It could also award the person maybe 5 points for good work? (actually I can see that being abused but is there a way to stop people clicking themselves?) Also, could there be a poem and fiction of the week/month based on this? I agree it can be manipulated again but it should be relatively easy to say who's cheated outright because their work won't be as good as some others by a large amount.

P.S. I know there are views but it doesn't say whether they read it all and liked it.

The views counter doesn't mean anything anyways. On any given topic, 90% of those views is the Googlebot or other search engines.

You got an interesting idea, but I can't really do anything about it for the time being. What I am sporadically working on is an automated system where if it is something like Chapter 6 in a series, then the links to the other chapters will appear at the top of the story. In theory, it is really easy to do, but I can't seem to figure out how to make it work.

Does the spinny globe on the homepage show where people online are? Even if not, it's pretty cool.

Yep, the spinning globe shows where people are visiting YWS from. The blinking ones are currently active visitors, and the red dots are people who visited within the last 24 hours.

I'm not showing up either. Is that because I have a fictional place listed as my country?

Nope, it's showing up. However, it's based on your IP address. While IP addresses are based on your geographical location, it's not always exact. For instance, depending on which IP service I use to check the location of my IP, I either live in Andover, Massachusetts or Bethesda, Maryland.

So it's showing up, just not necessarily in the right place.

I've got a question about the poetry forums... could there be a humor poetry/light poetry section? For people who don't really like the depression poetry that dominates the other forums? Only a suggestion.

Hahah, well if you posted happy/light poetry in the other sections, then they wouldn't be so depressing ^_^

I think, in that case, it is based more on what people are post, rather than what the sections are. Lots of new poets seem to think all poetry has to be depressing ("emo"? Although I do not want to offend anyone.) Why don't you change the trend? ^_~

I hope that answered your question?

You know what I'd really like?

I'd like to be able to view exactly where users are on the site. When I view the users online it only gives a vague description, like what forum they're in. A more specific description, like what topic they're viewing would be great. TW has something like that...

I know this is random and probably isn't a huge concern, but consider it.

I know what you're talking about Kylan, and there is actually a mod that would enable that. I'm fiddling around with YWS stuff tonight ranging from the Journal to the Groups, so I'll check it out. If it doesn't take long to install, I'll go ahead and add it in.

Firstly, I know that you are really busy right now, what with the bugs and all, and I don't expect you to even read this for awhile. I just wanted to type this up before I forgot, because I meant to do so a few weeks ago. ^_^

That said...

I think it would be cool (not to mention useful) if we could read the at least a preview of latest posts on our watched topics in the notification emails. So the email would read something like this:

Something like that? Another forum my mom's part of has that, and I thought it was pretty neat.

Again, I'm just putting this out here for my sake--so I don't forget. Laughing I don't even expect you to read this post until much later.

How about, when you review something, you can write as you would normally, then just below there could be a little table where you put, 'What to improve' 'X/10' bet parts etc. I just thought of it a minute ago, don't know whether you have had that idea before or not. Very Happy

Also, I don't know if this was intentional, but when you post something in the Advanced Critiques forum, it doesn't appear in the portfolio. It would be good if it did.
