Imagery and allusions give me goosebumps. I like reading a story that parallels another tale or idea or gives reference to something cleverly. Recently, I've been dying to write a short based off of a bible story only set in the future. But, until my project at hand is over, I have commited to abstain from distractions.
But you, my friends can write such a story for me.
Contest: Write a short story (no more than 3,000 words, no less than 1,000 words) that is based off of a well-known or famous work (a bible story, Shakespeare, Charles Dickens) but set in the future or in the present. Your story should not be indentical in any way, but when reading it I should be able to tell what work it's based off of. In short, write a jumbo-sized allusion.
Rules:
-- Again, no more than 3,000 words, no less than 1,000 words.
-- A minimum of FOUR people must submit in order for the contest to be followed through with. If less than four people submit, the contest will be cancelled but I will critique each of the entries anyway.
-- Deadline: 10/18 - 11/18
Prizes:
1st - 3 critiques
2nd - 2 critiques
3rd - 1 critique
Any questions, post here.

HA! This actually sounds very amusing! I just might enter my first contest ever!
Does it have to be a certain tone? Dramatic, humorous, etc.? |

*hugs allusions*
Does it have to be something you would readily recognize? XD I'm either going to swim through literature for something, or use a Greek myth. But certainly, expect something from me.
Could I PM it [or email it] to you rather than post it? I've been dying to write something for the lit journal, and to do so I cannot post it. |

Sure, you guys can PM. And Clau, if your allusion is based off of something you feel the average person wouldn't recognize, just give me a short summary on the greek myth or whatever you chose to use.

It could be any genre really. Sci-fi, romance, other, action/adventure... It all depends on what your story alludes to and how you write it.
When in doubt, post in "other fiction."

Hey, that's a great idea! I'll write one for sure.
Maybe, "Daniel is thrown into Harlem instead of a lions den"
This'll be fun. |

Awesome Scotty!
We now have four entrants. The specified minimum. Now, if we can get everyone to submit something, the contest will be a go.

This is a really intriguing idea. I'll try and write something for this contest. Oh course, I've said that before and nothing's come of it.
